irondog: Well, since I am considerably older than most of you, maybe I shouldn't be so frivolous after all the reasonably serious posts, but what the heck. Has anyone thought of asking GOG why their Witcher calendars are all female? Speaking personally, I'd like to see some male buns. Other parts are also acceptable.
Not me. But I'm assuming the calendar is the female cards from the game. it's a male character getting involved with females, and presumbably something one did is collect cards of conquests, lol. maybe you should ask why there aren't more female protagonists. :-)

dr.zli: so after 16 pages of posts, do we know if there are any shemales on GOG?
I believe the correct term is "trans".
The question is, after 16 pages of posts, has this already been posted enough times ?

Transgender people, I believe it is. The second part is really important.
So, could someone explain why men in general don't wear high heels?

I'd rather have it so that no one wears them, but when I ask men who like high heels about why they like 'em, they say that high heels make the butt look better and that is why women should wear 'em. Don't men want their butt to look good?
dr zli, mondo and starmaker, thank you, you made my day. i laughed hysterically for around 10 minutes :) and starmaker, you are awesome :D

this thread has become highly entertaining :)

cbean85: Are you saying that girls are not as "naturally talented" intellectually speaking? I'm a guy and I think that is a load of crap! What the hell are you talking about?!
don't you get it? it's a compensation mechanism to cope with the fact they were better than him :)

pH7: Out of curiosity, what do mean by "proving themselves"? Is it that different from a guy having to prove himself? <snip> So, what I'd be interested in finding out is if "women having to prove themselves in male dominated areas" is any different from "men having to prove themselves in male dominates areas" - apart from men being a lot more used to "having" to prove themselves. Any thoughts?
I meant making guys who are openly prejudiced against women realize that you're not a joke and that they shouldn't look down on you or assume things to be true just b/c you're female. It's usually worse if you're good looking.
The most extreme example I've heard of is a team of male scientists refusing to cooperate with their newly assigned project leader b/c she's a woman, in really mean ways. Luckily it ended up well cause she's brilliant and knows how to handle people.

With normal, reasonable people of course it's the same.

Magnitus: I think there is more overlap between computer games and computer sciences/math than most people give it credit, especially for the more brainy types of games. Heck, some people go very far in their analysis for the optimisation of their strategy for some games.
I agree with that. Not necessarily for math reasoning, but some games certainly develop your brain in desirable ways. But they haven't been around always, nor as readily available as today.

Also, girls are kinda stereotyped to like casual and PUZZLE games.

avatar
Magnitus: I think about math stuff when I'm alone, not when I'm with my gf.
Your gf (or bf) might be a math/science geek. So you might discuss and share your ideas and theories when you're spending quality time together.

Your spending time together might also mean playing games together, the brainy type.

avatar
Magnitus: Also, dating can be a very emotional process and my personal experience is that computer sciences and maths are topics best delved into when you have a cool head.
Like any intellectual endeavor.
Which can actually serve as an escape from emotional issues for some people.

You're underestimating ambition and the wish to succeed academically (in terms of being concerned with dating). Research has shown that girls do better at school. Reasons aside, if you study, you are developing your brain. And you study math at school from grade one. Actually, in kindergarten too.

Also, various people handle emotional issues differently, and some are better at keeping their head cool or simply focusing on work/studying when they have to.

And lastly, I don't know exactly how early do you mean, but the time you hit puberty and the time you start dating can differ radically based on culture, ethnicity, nutrition prevalent in a country (due to various chemicals, hormones etc.) and so on.

Yumi: It might have been true in past generations, but a lot less for mine.
I think it's true for every generation of children, and that it depends on personality and emotional setup. Because it's a matter of confidence.
In this particular case, true, internet allows you to see that there are many exceptions to the rule.
the last quote came out as if i were quoting myself. i don't want to edit it cause it would take too much time with the messed up editing ^^;

I think high heels are tacky and only suitable for prostitutes myself but hey, that's me :p. With that I do mean "needle" heels - there's proper boot-like shoes that also lifts the wearer a good 3-4 inches off the ground but those are easier to walk with anyway.

They are not manly looking and they also look painful...
Man great warrior, man bring meat to hut, man move big feet fast. Woman choose man great hunter big food big decisions.

Woman stand still, woman cook, woman look pretty, bottom visible. Man choose woman nice bottom for rest and baby making and running less fast than man. Woman painted pretty on face too, man likes.

Pointy bottom-making shoe for woman. Flat barefoot war shoe for man. Order. If reversed, nature god angry disorder.

Now back Dragon Pass.

I think high heels were an ancient invention that helped men notice a ferocious woman approaching and flee, but nowadays as the suffrage and modern video games have tamed the mystical beasts, the heels are no longer necessary. I don't see why they'd be suitable for a prostitute. Bad shoes are bad for you, and high heels are bad shoes.

langurmonkey: They are not manly looking and they also look painful...
The manliness or lack thereof is cultural. If men shouldn't wear them since they look painful, why should women is what I'm asking. The last time I asked someone this very question, he replied "because they're women", and refused to explain further. I'd like someone to elaborate.

I'm not asking for the opinions of people who like wearing high heels, be you a man or a woman. I'm asking for a person that thinks women should wear 'em to provide a reason. To me, giving a gender directive like that seems insane, but I've met quite a few people (all men) who have thought like that, and some even said that you stop being a woman if you don't have high heels. It just baffles me, and I'm hoping that I'd finally meet one that can articulate it. Truth be told, I'm expecting the reason to be "it makes me pitch a tent".

BECAUSE THEY ARE WOMEN !

I'm female, although I probably don't count as the conventional kind (whatever that is) :). I've always been into computers and gaming - I don't think that's unusual, but most of my female friends are only casual gamers, admittedly. Maybe that's why I have more male friends.
Re: Heels, high-heeled shoes have wavered between a man's style, a woman's style and a both-genders style for millennia. Ancient Egyptians of both genders wore heels, during the European Middle Ages platform shoes were a both-gender thing, and during the 17th century it was common to see French lords in 3-4 inch heels. Which, between the crazy wigs and crazy heels makes me wonder how those dudes got around. Lots of servants to catch them when they wobbled?

Anyway, an evolutionary psychology approach is pretty much invalidated by historical data. High heels are a cultural thing. Women wear them now to look sexy, men used to wear them to look imposing, and everyone used to wear them to keep nice shoes out of the dirt.

You've got all the right equipment, yes? Then you're a conventional woman. ;) There are really quite a few women who like all kinds of video games - and there are more women who get into them once they have some support and don't have to try to take on the video gaming old boys' club alone.

Adzeth: [..] and some [men] even said that you stop being a woman if you don't have high heels. [..]
It's called a sexual fetish. Apparently, one in seven (non-transvestic) fetishes is about shoes. Figuring out why he feels about shoes that way is probably better left to trained psychologists, but there seems to be some accidental/unintentional neuro-linguistic programming involved. Or, as Freud suggested, he's probably had a fantasy about his mother having a penis that at some point was cut off. (Sometimes I regrett not becoming a psychologist - all the non-sensical crap I could've gotten away with saying - and getting paid for at that.. it's right up there with being a lawyer or politician..)
