Aliasalpha: For me, 2 less directions is a bit of an issue. Never liked the idea of moving north in a zig zag pattern

The Ministry of Going North In a Zig Zag Pattern wants to have a word with you...

Metro09: Finally! As far as the hexes... why do I not see it as any significant change from the previous versions?

Couple things:
-It changes movement methods. If you stand between two units, the attacking unit cannot just bypass them on a diagonal (7, 9, 1, 3 movements). To go around, it would take 2 full movements and the attack.
-Area of affects reach further and are more circular, not so much a + shape.
-More true borders per grid space than existed before.
-All grids operate on the same rules.
Plus, it just LOOKS better. <3

Unfortunately I'm due south of them so it'll take me twice as long to get there
If wonder if the engine will support ZOC attacks now that it's hex based? That would be awesome. :)
The first CIV game I played was Civilization Revolution which actually also came out for the consoles...

What a great game, I can't imagine how much more depth the PC only versions go into...
Vastly more. Rev was designed for quick games that you can finish in 4-5 hours whereas the PC version can literally last for days

The play by email version can last many weeks. At a couple of turns per day.
I'm digging the hex.
It's going to cause my senioritus next semester.

At least "one more turn" doesn't apply then, and those players don't need help from Civilization Anonymous. ;)
The only real downside here is that "Civilization V announced" is roughly equivalent to "Alpha Centauri II not announced."
I mean, I love Civ as much as the next man, but really, why can't AC get some more love from Firaxis?

Alpha Centauri is still one of the best 4X games but since Brian Reynolds probably wouldn't be involved in a sequel I'm not that interested.
There may yet still be hope for PC gaming in 2010!
