Sandboxes red with blood.

Far Cry 1 and Far Cry 2, the first two iterations of the 10-year old series of FPS games with versatile mechanics, huge worlds to explore, and realistic presentation creating a truly immersive experience, are available 75% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.98 for both ($2.49 each) for the next 24 hours!

A tropical paradise seethes with hidden evil in [url=http://www.gog.com/game/far_cry]Far Cry, a cunningly detailed action shooter that pushed the boundaries of combat to shocking new levels.Freelance mariner Jack Carver is cursing the day he ever came to this island. A week ago, a brash female reporter named Valerie had offered him an incredible sum of cash to take her to this unspoiled paradise. Shortly after docking, however, Jack's boat was greeted by artillery fire from a mysterious militia group swarming about the island. With his boat destroyed, his money gone, and the gorgeous Valerie suddenly missing, Jack now finds himself facing an army of mercenaries amidst the wilds of the island, with nothing but a gun and his wits to survive. But the further he pushes into the lush jungle canopy, the stranger things become.

Far Cry 2, developed by Ubisoft Montreal, takes many of the great ideas from the previous game and improves upon them, making a pulse-pounding, high-speed shooter that roars through the beautiful, if sere, environments of Central Africa. With stunning visuals and deep gameplay, this game takes everything you liked about Far Cry and ramps it up to 11. You are a gun for hire, trapped in a war-torn African state, stricken with malaria and forced to make deals with corrupt warlords on both sides of the conflict in order to do what it takes to take down the Jackal, a dirty arms merchant who has made your new homeland a war-torn hell.

Played side by side, Far Cry 1 and Far Cry 2 will provide you with dozens of hours worth of stealth, action, explosions, tactics, and adrenaline rushes. Pick them both up for only $4.98, or either one of them for just $2.49! The 75% off Gem Promo discount lasts only until Tuesday, April 22, at 9:59AM GMT.
Got em both already.....(saves money today!)
Have them both but was not keen on number 2 though loved 1.
I didn't even know Far Cry 2 was on gog :/
Far Cry 2 is wonderful. Don't let anyone tell you different.
Thoughts on Far Cry 2? Kinda interested, but have heard it has some annoyances.

I enjoyed them both, but agree #1 was a bit better for me as well.
Instabought. We need more DRM-free Ubisoft games on GOG..

Too much "realism" for my liking. Yet you magically heal yourself with an injection of pixie dust. Everything is brown with a brown filter applied on top. It is nothing like Farcry 1 which I like.

Fenixp created a thread a month ago, I guess all the pros and cons are to be found in there.
Far Cry 1 is on my wishlist and I'll be picking up once I decide whether or not to get FC2. There seems to be a lot of negative reviews about the game which is succeeding in putting me off. There's also the issue of my backlog which already has a few FPS games in it. Then again, the price is low enough that if FC2 is a flop, it won't be a big deal but regardless, I'd rather use the cash for a game I know I want.

Anyone here willing to give a fence sitter on FC2 any suggestions?

I'm sure whatever the quality of FarCry 2 is, it definitely must be better than FarCry 1

Some people disliked the way that enemies respawned at checkpoints. Also, some people did not like malaria mechanic - you have malaria and you needed to periodically take medication for it.

Personally, the respawning checkpoints didn't affect me at all. The malaria was only a little bit of an annoyance for me. Also, I found the ending to be pretty bad. Other than those things, the game has a great open world with a lot to do, beautiful visuals (I would say that this actually exceeds Crysis), and the soundtrack is phenomenal.

To me, it was a wonderfully unique and atmospheric open-world FPS. It has a few hiccups, but those things are easily outweighed by what the game does right.
sweet jesus this is a pretty good daily.
