Far Cry 1 and Far Cry 2, the first two iterations of the 10-year old series of FPS games with versatile mechanics, huge worlds to explore, and realistic presentation creating a truly immersive experience, are available 75% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.98 for both ($2.49 each) for the next 24 hours!

A tropical paradise seethes with hidden evil in [url=http://www.gog.com/game/far_cry]Far Cry, a cunningly detailed action shooter that pushed the boundaries of combat to shocking new levels.Freelance mariner Jack Carver is cursing the day he ever came to this island. A week ago, a brash female reporter named Valerie had offered him an incredible sum of cash to take her to this unspoiled paradise. Shortly after docking, however, Jack's boat was greeted by artillery fire from a mysterious militia group swarming about the island. With his boat destroyed, his money gone, and the gorgeous Valerie suddenly missing, Jack now finds himself facing an army of mercenaries amidst the wilds of the island, with nothing but a gun and his wits to survive. But the further he pushes into the lush jungle canopy, the stranger things become.

Far Cry 2, developed by Ubisoft Montreal, takes many of the great ideas from the previous game and improves upon them, making a pulse-pounding, high-speed shooter that roars through the beautiful, if sere, environments of Central Africa. With stunning visuals and deep gameplay, this game takes everything you liked about Far Cry and ramps it up to 11. You are a gun for hire, trapped in a war-torn African state, stricken with malaria and forced to make deals with corrupt warlords on both sides of the conflict in order to do what it takes to take down the Jackal, a dirty arms merchant who has made your new homeland a war-torn hell.

Played side by side, Far Cry 1 and Far Cry 2 will provide you with dozens of hours worth of stealth, action, explosions, tactics, and adrenaline rushes. Pick them both up for only $4.98, or either one of them for just $2.49! The 75% off Gem Promo discount lasts only until Tuesday, April 22, at 9:59AM GMT.

innerring: Do the games work on Win 7 64?

Siegor: I have Farcry 2 and it does work. The page for the first Farcry says it works too so it should be fine.
Thanks.
Some people didn't like far cry 2. I on the other hand loved it. The saharra locale was beautiful and the story was intriguing, at least for a couple play throughs. The one thing I absolutely hated was that fucking gun wear. I sat there one time after getting a brand new gun and waited like 30 minutes, I could literally watch as the gun rusted. After it was nearly fully brown I pulled the trigger one time and it blew up in my face. It was a good mechanic if it had been implemented properly, say with a gun cleaning kit were you had to clean it to keep it functioning properly. As it is the developers went for for realism and ended up with everything but. Still it was a fun for the first few playthroughs.
Never liked the first and while the second had interesting ideas, it becomes way too boring after a short qhile.

IwubCheeze: This I can understand. Heroes of Might and Magic 4 the the Postal series for example were popular with some but hated by others. Personally I liked them but I know theres others here who will disagree with me on it. Still, considering I haven't played any of the Far Cry games but was interested, I decided to just pick up the first for now. When I'm feeling brave / bored / rich, I'll definately have another think about FC2.
Just to remember that liking/disliking FC will not tell you much whether you will like FC2, and vice versa. They are quite different kind of games, and have no other real connections either, besides the name.

Far Cry is a pretty generic FPS where you advance from level to level, in lush environments which usually give you quite a lot of freedom to roam around (ie. not a corridor shooter, albeit there are chokepoints which you need to visit).

I see Far Cry 2 more as a first-person view GTA-like game on African savannahs and jungles. Your drive around mostly the same areas over and over again (just like in GTA games you drive around the same areas mostly), doing missions that are handed to you, or trying to find diamonds or other goodies hidden away. Quite different from the first game.

IwubCheeze: Annoyances in games are practically a given but the Malaria mechanic doesn't seem like too much of a hindrance. Respawning enemies might be a problem though considering the complaints about them being bullet sponges and sneaking past them only to have to sneak past them on the way back in the city areas of Thief: Deadly Shadows was a pain in the arse to say the least. If I sneak past them in FC2, I'm assuming I'm going to have the same issue
In Far Cry 2, if you don't want to stop to fight with the enemies in some outpost, you can try to e.g.:

- speed past the outpost with your car, maybe ramming a couple of the enemies with it. They might start following you with their own gunned car, but you can usually either outrun it, or quickly destroy it with your own mounted gun.

- drive off road or choose a different route, if you want to avoid certain hard outpost. On savannahs and desert areas this is quite easy of course, but I've even driven in a middle of jungles off road.

The outposts and checkpoints also provide useful items (which also respawn, along with the enemies) like health and ammo, so I still sometimes stopped far away and started sniping the enemies for a far, maybe finishing off a few remaining enemies with a shotgun in close combat, and then go collect the goodies. With sniper rifles, usually one or two shots is enough to get a kill.

Great, I finally made up my mind to give the game a try, only to find out that the sale is over. Bah.

cmdr_flashheart: If we do, it will be awhile, FC3 and Blood Dragon are fairly recent games.
I know, but I'm getting a bit concerned as they haven't even delivered us Assassin's Creed 2. I only bought AC1 on here to show Ubisoft support even though I don't like the original much.

I think they won't ever sell Assassin's Creed II on GOG, since it's widely regarded by the mainstream to be their best game in the series, and Ubi, like many other big studios, seem to see GOG as a dumping ground for their older, less-known games (or, at least, less commercially successful). Plus, GOG is the major DRM-free proponent in the digital market, and I'm not sure how those big companies really want to release their biggest titles DRM-free.

I think they mostly want to sell their newer games with the UPlay component. I presume all their recent games sold on Steam also require one to have also an UPlay account, on top of the Steam account (or that's what I recall hearing; I don't think I have any UPlay games on Steam).

So, as GOG has some principles that it doesn't allow forced DRM-like runtime accounts in order to play a single-player game, Ubisoft UPlay games are not appearing here. At least not until Ubisoft sees fit to maybe let GOG release some without that component, if ever.

If Ubisoft ever decides to abandon UPlay as a failed attempt to compete with Steam, maybe at that point they are also more open to let also GOG release some of their UPlay-only games? One can always wish, but don't hold your breath.

That's pretty much what I'm afraid of. UPlay is a complete pointless joke and I hope Ubisoft gets bitten in the ass over it and reconsiders their DRM stance... but no, I'm not all that hopeful.

I do feel pretty shafted by them, being as how I've bought most Ubisoft games on here at full price at launch.

Thanks GOG, bought both.
At what point is a game considered old or classic? ACII only came out in '09, so even if it's going to come here, maybe in 2019? Just guessing.
whoops. missed this one, oh well it will come again in the summer sale id imagine
