Far Cry 1 and Far Cry 2, the first two iterations of the 10-year old series of FPS games with versatile mechanics, huge worlds to explore, and realistic presentation creating a truly immersive experience, are available 75% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.98 for both ($2.49 each) for the next 24 hours!

A tropical paradise seethes with hidden evil in Far Cry, a cunningly detailed action shooter that pushed the boundaries of combat to shocking new levels.Freelance mariner Jack Carver is cursing the day he ever came to this island. A week ago, a brash female reporter named Valerie had offered him an incredible sum of cash to take her to this unspoiled paradise. Shortly after docking, however, Jack's boat was greeted by artillery fire from a mysterious militia group swarming about the island. With his boat destroyed, his money gone, and the gorgeous Valerie suddenly missing, Jack now finds himself facing an army of mercenaries amidst the wilds of the island, with nothing but a gun and his wits to survive. But the further he pushes into the lush jungle canopy, the stranger things become.

Far Cry 2, developed by Ubisoft Montreal, takes many of the great ideas from the previous game and improves upon them, making a pulse-pounding, high-speed shooter that roars through the beautiful, if sere, environments of Central Africa. With stunning visuals and deep gameplay, this game takes everything you liked about Far Cry and ramps it up to 11. You are a gun for hire, trapped in a war-torn African state, stricken with malaria and forced to make deals with corrupt warlords on both sides of the conflict in order to do what it takes to take down the Jackal, a dirty arms merchant who has made your new homeland a war-torn hell.

Played side by side, Far Cry 1 and Far Cry 2 will provide you with dozens of hours worth of stealth, action, explosions, tactics, and adrenaline rushes. Pick them both up for only $4.98, or either one of them for just $2.49! The 75% off Gem Promo discount lasts only until Tuesday, April 22, at 9:59AM GMT.
Helpful youtube videos of both games for people that are on the fence about them.

Far Cry

Far Cry 2
Bought both games. Thanks for the great deal!
Own them both on Steam but for $2 a piece I'll go ahead and re-purchase.

Far Cry 2 is annoying but still fun.
Own both here already; so, money saved for the next sale <g>

Loved Far Cry 2 (way more than Far Cry 1). I found it to be a great open-world FPS. I just recently purchased it here on GOG, and liked it so much I played it three times in a row (once on each difficulty), and have been wanting to start a new game and play again (but first I'll finish Stalker Clear Sky).

I like playing games 'stealthily'; and surprisingly in Far Cry 2 you can play that way through to the end. Using the Silent MP and the silent Dart Gun (for sniping) you can sneak up on most locations and take them on as a sneak. That isn't to say you won't be getting into firefights (lots of them), but the stealth is not too bad.

With the silent MP the enemies won't immediately 'place' you when you shoot (as they would with other assault rifles). Instead they'll be looking for you (while blind-firing where you were) ; so if you 'burst and move' you can stay surprisingly hidden. You can also set up ambushes where you stealthily draw them out to your strategically parked assault vehicle (think 'technical') and then mow them down.

There's always multiple approaches to every situation; and many 'back roads' and trails so you don't have to always stay on the main roads (with their checkpoints). You can also use a combination of land and waterways (technical boats) to get around and/or approach your targets.

Also, no 'monsters'; or 'mutants'.

Far Cry 2 - highly recommended.

It's too bad Far Cry Instincts never made it's way to PC - that and (to a lesser extent) its expansion Evolution - were easily my favourite Far Cry games. I haven't got around to playing anything past Far Cry 2, bur Instincts was the funnest out of all the Far Cry games I've played.
Far Cry 3 must be brought here!

And yes, convince Ubisoft (through sorcery!) to port Far Cry Instincts!
Play Far Cry 2 with Dylan's Realism Mod and Graphical Enhancement Suite. I like the vanilla game quite a lot, but these two mods improve it quite a bit.

Play in DX9 mode if you experience crashes in DX10.

Far Cry 2 is really a rough diamond. There will be things you'll love, there will be things you'll dislike. At this price it's well worth to try out.
Time to consider this throughout the day. It's an interesting promo.

BreOl72: Well, to all those asking, if they should buy FC2:

sMull: All of those things you listed are some of the reasons why i like the game.

Kabus: Instabought. We need more DRM-free Ubisoft games on GOG..
Yes From Earth, Rainbow Six 3, and Splinter Cell Chaos Theory would be awesome.
Had to pop in for a sec and share the FC1 theme music. Bloody amazing. It's too damn bad it isn't included as bonus content.

Finally add Far Cry 2 to my collection, thanks GOG.

J_Darnley: Farcry 2 is shit! Don't let anyone tell you different.

IwubCheeze: Lol, if this doesn't make anyone more comfused whether or not to buy FC2, I don't know what will :)
This does not unmake people not more unconfused than they were not before! I do not know what will not undo so! ;)

By the way, I had a good time with both FC and FC2, despite their being very different beasts. But I understand why FC2 is so divisive. One, if you do not enjoy the gameplay mechanics, it will be TERRIBLY repetitive (I enjoyed it, but it was a bit overlong, it does become repetitive); two, you might run into unforgivable game logic bugs that will make you go for an earlier save -- this is REALLY stupid.

That said, I had such a great time while it was working, I recommend it anyway. 87 out of 100. :)

tinyE: New to the forum johnny? :P No problem. You'll soon get used to the fact that there are several of us which are fountains of perpetual silliness and bullshit. XD

BTW.
GOG is offering a bonus with this game. Whoever buys FC during this sale DOES NOT get a copy of the movie. All those who refuse to purchase will get several copies, and be tied to a chair and forced to watch all of them! MUHAHAHAH!

johnnygoging: don't change the subject. you still haven't bought something for him have you?
Buy him the movie. :)

Hmm, grabbed the FC 2. I´ve got the 1 from a long time ago (not on GOG) and I didn´t like it a bit. Since people oppose the two games, I´m doing a bet at the 2. Some reviews praise the atmosphere and immerse gameplay, and since I value both a lot, I think is a safe bet
I couldn´t resist, besides being broke buying from last week and my wallet screaming loudly.
