I once helped a friend rehabilitate from drug addiction. Turned out I was wrong to think they'd stay clean as you cannot help someone who doesn't want to help themselves (I won't detail the specifics beyond that though!).

Still undecided as to what game to choose should I win though!

I was wrong about the etymological root of the word skull.
In for Duke Nukem Manhatten project and +1

I used to think that vacuuming once every 2 years whether it needs it or not was good enough but I was wrong. ;o) My game of choice is Tropico Reloaded, and thanks for the opportunity.

Telika: Oh also, please don't mock me, because the very subject of this thread is about showing vulnerability and bitter naive mistakes, but I did use to firmly believe that inquisitor would be completely awesome.

langurmonkey: Is the game that bad?
It is, to the point where it gets funny. But its universe is really charming, so, I can't stop playing it. It's infuriating gameplay-wise (very tedious and amateurish), but something in it, possibly simply its universe, keeps me overlooking and forgiving its horrid flaws.

It's not a game I'd advise to anybody. It's really borderline amateur shareware quality. But I have to reluctantly admit that its theme and atmosphere works just enough on me.

DCT: I once thought my marriage would last for the rest of my life, two and half years later I was filling for divorce after finding out she was nailing some 17 year old drug addict..needless to say I was quite wrong...

Should I be picked I would like Etherlords.

Rodzaju: Been there, done that.
Except my first marriage lasted a little under 6 months.
Hell, the divorce took longer!

Afterwards, I swore I would never get married again.
Wrong again!!

Next month I celebrate 10 years with an absolutely wonderful lady.
well mine only lasted 2 and 1/2 years because of our kid and yeah I swore off marriage after that till I met a special lovely woman and after 3 years of dating and living together I finally decided to give marriage another shot and after 8 years I'm glad I did.

Though my first wife still makes my life a living hell even after our divorce especially after she married to her new husband, she wants nothing more then to have me and my wife out of our daughter's life so she and her husband can be her only parents, Is swear we have to go back to court at least once a year.

I used to believe Steamworks games would be the most unlikely to be sold here DRM-free. Then I was set straight by some kind, quick-to-correct GOGers.

In for Outcast. Thanks.
I thought I'd have a stable source of income by now, alas.
I thought i could cheat my way through school, worked in highschool but college kicked my ass
When I was a kid, influenced by a dare from friends, I thought I could bite through a rock.

Alas, I was wrong.

Thanks and +1 for your generosity.

How
i used to think that every file off steam was drm-ed up with everything they could throw at it.

then i found this thread:
List of DRM-free games on Steam

glad to see there are still many games that go for the minimal approach to DRM and as long as i back my installers up, i still have a chance of playing my games even should steam be non-existent.

What
to be determined (in the even of a win)

thanks for a giveaway!
+1

I thought I would not play classic DOS games again, but now thank to GOG I can.

In the case I am the lucky winner then I will choose the game.

Thanks Austrobogulator
Whoa, there's about hundred (and then some) different answers I can give to this question. And some different ways to go with it too.

But I'll stick with, I used to think there was more common sense in this world but the longer I live and the more I experience, I'm finding I was wrong about that (myself included).

Should the God of Stochasticity pick me, I'll go with MoO 1/2. Thank you.
I got a parking ticket once! I know, I'm sorry. If lady luck should smile my way I would like The Zork Anthology. Thanks for the giveaway!
I believed in Tooth Faerie, until I discovered she was too cheap.

My game: Ultima IX.
Thanks.
I thought for sure Mitt Romney would win the presidential election this past November. Obviously, I was wrong. Thank you for the giveaway!
