As some of you may be aware, there is a new Wonder Woman TV pilot in development from producer David E. Kelley (Boston Legal, Ally McBeal, L.A. Law) and starring Adrianne Palicki as the title character. Well yesterday, the first pic of Adrianne Palicki in full WW costume was released and all I have to say is... um... it's shiny?

Honestly, it's not that bad (I've seen way worse), but its really not that good either (she looks like an action figure sculpt). Check it out in the attached.

EDIT - By way of comparison, I have also added a pic of the current Wonder Woman costume as it appears in the comic books

Bringing costumes from comics to reality is hard, especially if you want to keep the original coloring. Honestly, that looks more like a bit more expensive halloween costume. Though it migh look a lot different with some other backdrop than plain white, now the shinynes pops out too much.
Should have been Eliza Dushku -_-

I couldn't agree more, however compare the new costume to the old Lynda Carter Wonder Woman. Back then, they managed to keep the same colors as well as a design that was true to the comics without it looking too "plasticy", all on a 1970's TV budget, so it obviously can be done.

Damuna: I really can't see her as Wonder Woman.
Not a Buffy/Angel fan then? She can kick ass and she even looks Greek. There was a reason a lot of fans were calling for her to get the role.

She's very pretty, but she doesn't hold a candle to Linda Carter.

Nobody holds a candle to Lynda Carter in her prime as Wonder Woman. That show was like practically "training porn" for my generation.
I don't really like it. She not only doesn't look like Wonder Woman, but the costume looks like it was pulled out of the discount bin after Halloween. :(

Well we will never see now. Pity some fan didn't do a trailer like the guy who did the Nathan Fillion Green Lantern one. That was epic.

Really... if you're a criminal and someone showed up on that get up to kick your ass... would you be scared?

"Oh no, not the Lasso! We surrender!"
The comic version looks like she's undergone a makeover at the hands of Neil Gaiman. :P Don't get me wrong, I like Neil Gaiman's stuff. A lot in fact. And the new look does look a fair bit more modern - a more realistic look as opposed to the overly colourful and fantastic.

You could now see her in the new Batman films, whereas the new TV one would have looked more at home in Batman and Robin.

They've got to keep these characters relevant to modern audiences or else the next time they kill them off could be the last. The TV adaptation seems to fly in the face of that.

Are you talking about the comic pic or the TV show pic being "Gaiman-esque" (nevermind that Gaiman is a writer, not an artist)? I can see the comic version being at home in the new Batman films, but certainly not the TV version.

I'm not sure they really have to update every character. Part of the appeal of Wonder Woman and Captain America is they are rooted in that Americana of the 40's-50's. I absolutely hated the new Question in the comics and was really happy when they brought the original Vic Sage into Justice League Unlimited.

I updated that post to clarify. You originally had the comic version labelled as the new version, which threw me off.

As for Gaiman he'd get plenty of say in how the characters look. Not only would there be detailed character bios for each and every major character, but I'd imagine he'd also get artists to sketch the characters before letting them loose on the pages. That's pretty much standard practise so I doubt Gaiman is any more slack about it.

True. They're of an era. But then you're left with either basing all the material in that era, trying to make them current, or lose them completely. Personally I think that sometimes - in fact a lot more often than they do - comic companies just have to let go of certain characters.

When a reboot is done well it can be good. Some characters really don't need it though. Diana doesn't age as far as I know so her origin story can remain the same as it always was just with some minor changes. Similarly the Super Soldier serum makes Steve Rogers age much slower like Wolverine and I think his origin story in the upcoming film is going to be pretty similar to what it's always been. Superman is a character I get rather tired at because they constantly try to update him and his history. Even after Crysis they kept re-telling and there was even Smallville (which I admit I enjoyed). It's one of the reasons I prefer Captain Marvel to Superman because no matter how much they try to convolute his story it's still Billy Batson.
