stonebro: I need a companion 101.

Do you need to manage your companion's food, water, and sleep levels too in hardcore mode? I think Cass is complaining about being thirsty.

I recruited Cass out of the Mojave Outpost. Now however I have the option to recruit Boone.

- What happens to Cass if I recruit Boone? Does she go back to the outpost?
- What will Boone do if I don't recruit him now? Can I find him later at the dino?
I've been using Boone since the start, I've never needed to feed him food or water.
If you recruit a new one and dismiss your existing one, they go back to wherever you got them from.

Nah they look after themselves. Just remember they can die in Hardcore mode. Cass is just too fond of the Whisky. I think if you drink some to activate her perk the perk will affect her as well.

You can dismiss a companion and rejoin them later. In the case of Cass she will return to the Mojave outpost or you can tell her to meet you at the Lucky 38 if you unlocked it. Once you recruit a companion they stay recruited, you can just only have one companion and one pet at any time.

Aliasalpha: Ahh no, this wasn't the quarry, it was across the river with no safe spots to shoot from and fighting uphill literally and figuratively.I used much the same tactic at the quarry and hoped it'd do as good a job here, lack of obstructions meant that the deathclaws got to my before I managed to kill one

cw8: Ah, need to go there to visit sometime. I went to a hill once and there were loads of Deathclaws, got owned pretty bad when 3 came running to me.
Ultra Luxe doesn't have slots, have to get banned through BlackJack... zzz
I did it by roulette, and occasionally played a few rounds of blackjack to not fall asleep. If I ever do this again I'm sticking a few points in Luck on character creation.
Having Luck of 7 means winning BlackJack consistently. Slow but still winning. I mean hitting a 5 when I have a 16 or having a 10 when I double down from 11 is all signs of Luck. I imagine having Luck of 9 and winning every single round?

I'm 7000 caps up from Ultra Luxe after playing BlackJack awhile.

Cass likes her whiskey. She complains about not having any on normal as well, if I recall correctly.
Yeah cass is a bit of a boozehound, in fact when you first meet her she says she closes the bar every night and she's not talking about locking up (and she doesn't seem to stop saying she wants a drink even if you give her one)

In short you don't manage any companion stuff except ammo for any given weapons (and I think thats only in hardcore) and telling them to use stimpaks

Can I make them wear the armor and weapons I choose? Do I just put it in their inventory?

To make them use stimpaks, I assume I have to put some in their inventory as well?

Give them the armour and they wear whatever is the best.

When I used stimpacks on them, it deducts from my own inventory though.

Detlik: What is your opinion on additonal perks, lvl cap raiser and mods like that? Should I install them during first playthrough?
avatar
Delixe: I'm trying the Lv45 mod now myself but a word of warning. Unlike FO3 Obsidian have been smart so if you exceed the Lv30 cap creatures and enemies will continue to level with you so the challenge will continue to be there. Some people have levelled to 100 using that mod and have reported Deathclaws at that level being unkillable. I think I may actually restart with the slower levelling mod which means the really good weapons wont start appearing till much later in the game. At the moment just like FO3 there are some weapons you will never use because you level up so fast the good stuff is available rather quickly. Lv14 for the Anti-Materiel rifle to appear at the Gun Runners I think.

However if you do go with the slower levelling mod I would recommend also using the perks every level mod to give you a slight edge.
Every lvl cap raiser scales enemies to your level or just specific ones? And which extra perks packs i should pick if I would raise lvl cap?

There are plenty of Perks anyway but if you want more then this is the most popular one.

The enemies levelling with you is hardcoded so any mod that allows you to exceed the level cap will also allow enemies to exceed it as well. This is a good thing because in FO3 if you broke the level cap everyone else was hardcoded to a cap of 30 (20 without Broken Steel)so eventually you will be powerful enough to kill a Deathclaw with a punch to the nose.

Thanks for help :) , which cap do you think is best? Around 50?

I picked 45 because it's about right. Will allow you to max all skills and get most of the perks you will want. The Lv60 seems a little excessive to me and the Lv100 pointless unless you want to randomly farm XP by fighting wasteland critters an awful lot.

I need to ask one more favor and question, could you please give me link to lvl cap mod you used, and with lvl cap raise the perk per level is pointless right?

Level 45 Cap

Yeah perk every level is largely pointless if you are going over the default level cap.

Edit: There are two .esp in that Mod. Use the Lv45 and not Lv46 as some are reporting the Lv46 is bugged and gives you a perk every three levels.

Thanks, so its fine if my first playthrough will be with all sorts of radio mods (RNV extended,Existence 2,etc.), raised lvl cap, more perks, Bottle water mode, Compiled patch,Companion sandbox and GUI mode? I just want to ask, if its ok to have such huge ammount of mods for first playthrough.
