stoicsentry: How about this:
1. Question gets posed.
2. Each player has X minutes to PM an answer (as well as a question). Those who get it right the first try get 3 points.
3. I post the answers to player yes/no questions.
4. Each remaining player (who didn't get it right the first time) has X minutes to PM a second answer. Those who get it right on the 2nd attempt get 1 point.
5. The answer gets revealed and we move on to the next attempt. (2 tries seems good, few will get it right the first time, so they get triple points. After seeing a whole bunch of yes/no's, there should be at least a few correct answers.)
The other thing I was thinking is that maybe we could have registration, so that there are 10 players max in a round. I don't know if there were more than that, it was hard to tell, but it seems to me there should be a limit if we're going to go by PMs. That would make it more orderly.
What do you think?
Great ideas! There are many possible variants that come to mind. Variety is good. And I still like your original approach to the yes/no comp. In fact the entire series of your contest was epic. Very well done. And as a contestant that chaotic bit was great fun. Though it must have been difficult to manage as host. Which is what got me thinking of alternate ways to do it.
Your series of contests have given me many ideas. And has inspired me to begin drafting a contest with a series of different games. I'm actually looking more forward to giving away games, than buying them for myself.
I really like your multiple points system. As well as your method of game variety within a given contest. A 3 point yes/no contest is good for a straight forward 1 point per first correct answer. A higher point system could award points for Every correct answer. And include things like bonus points for "best question asked" each round etc. And to manage game pace, bonus points could be awarded as needed for relevant trivia questions +.
