swizzle66: *does sad ghost dance on Landeril's corpse
Still two more rounds left.
The brave warrior Heroditus stood above the corpse of the one known as the Milkman. Slowly he withdrew his weapon from the body, letting loose a hearty cry.

He had emerged from the battle unscathed. The same could not be said of his comrades: Exile and the White Elk.

Taking a glance around him, Heroditus located the bodies of his allies and came to their aid. There he sat with them until their vitality was restored. Thankfully, they still had more fight in them than their enemies would give them credit for.

As White Elk and Exile began to gather themselves, Heroditus took one last look at the battlefield.

"Strange," he said, surveying the scene. "Only two bodies. There were three of them. There were three, I'm positive."

He let the thought slip from his mind, and hunched over Exile for a couple minutes, watching as his fellow warrior was finally able to open his eyes. White Elk took an hour longer to completely regain his wits.

"Mages," Exile chuckled, "You know how they are. One foot on the ground and one in the sky."

Heroditus smiled back amusingly as the two helped White Elk to his feet.

Slowly and carefully they made their way down the cavern until at last they found what they were looking for.

"Stunning!" Exile exclaimed.

"Truly", Heroditus returned.

Before them stood a jeweled treasure chest. At once, they each grabbed a side and attempted to lift it, but the chest wouldn't budge. It wasn't long before they realized how impossible it would be to raise the chest.

"Too bad," White Elk sighed, "all those jewels.... could have made our purses heavy as well."

Convinced that they could not lift the chest, they began instead to pry it open. Surprisingly, they found that it gave little resistance. Instead, it swung right open. Even more surprisingly, the chest was completely bare.

"Wait a second," Exile interjected, "I know this trick. It's supposed to convince you that nothing is in it, and so you just leave it be."

Taking the hilt of his sword, Exile pushed around the edges of the base of the chest, until a platform popped loose. "A-hah!" he bellowed. "There it is!"

Removing the false bottom of the chest revealed three flasks of potions.

"This must be the stuff we came for. Eh... why don't you check it out and let us know what you think?", asked Exile, pointing to White Elk.

"Why am I always the guinea pig?" protested White Elk.

"You're not," replied Exile, "you're the smarty pants."

White Elk took a small sip from one of the flasks. "Mmmm..." he said, "...delicious. Yep, definitely a health potion. Quite potent, too, I would say. This definitely has the power to restore, let's say... 10 HP, yes, twice as potent as your minor potion. Damned if it doesn't taste great also... berry."

Heroditus raised an eyebrow. "HP? What's an HP?"

"Uh...", White Elk returned, "I meant to say, it's.. yes, it will heal you real good."

"Real good? Got it." replied Heroditus.

Each of the party members left with one in hand.

(1 10HP potion is added to the inventory of Heroditus, White Elk and Exile.)

As they climbed back up the cavern steps, Heroditus remembered what he had forgotten: the bodies. There were only 2 bodies. Well now, there were none.

"What the---what hap---", he began.

White Elk interrupted him, "There! Look over there!"

In the distance, they spotted a mime, juggling the bodies of two fully grown men. A bottle was attached to his belt, much the same as each of them - only larger and decorated more ornately.

As Heroditus tended to the wounds of his fallen brothers, the thief Sly Cooper had managed to sneak into the shadows, pried open the chest, nabbed a bottle from it (above, not below the false bottom) and stole away with it and his greatly wounded allies.

(Sly Cooper adds to his inventory a major healing potion worth 25 HP.)

"Cooper! That bas-" shouted White Elk.

"This," grunted Exile angrily, slamming his sword upon the ground, "leaves us... with a score to settle."

"Indeed." replied Heroditus. As he spoke, Heroditus felt a jolt of energy.

"I couldn't be more ready.", he added, soaking up the feeling of the energy and allowing it to find a home in his body.

In recognition of his heroic acts having tended to his fallen allies first before seeking the treasure, the Gods have smiled upon Heroditus. They have granted him a new power that is aligned with his actions during the battle.

Heroditus may add a spot to his passive abilities section entitled: "Heroism of Heroditus"

Heroism of Heroditus: +20% chance to avoid damage from first physical attack against you during each battle. (This is calculated separately from and in addition to all similar abilities.)

Wouldn't The Captain get an ability? For Leading the Team?
In this case, that would probably depend on whether or not the captain led his team to victory in 2 out of 3. See what I mean? ;)

Otherwise the captain would just get some kinda bonus every time and then everyone would just fight over being captain.

OOC, I picked at random from among 2 players for which it would fit the storyline!

Yeah, I think it fits with the "leadership" role if you think about it - need to win 2/3.

Message to all the "beta testers": Sorry I have gone back and forth on the GOG issue again and again, but I don't think any of you will be upset to hear this announcement.

Every "tester" who finishes the 2 (or 3) games, without dropping, will be given a 5.99 GOG for their efforts. Having thought about it, I thought it would be cool if everyone really got rewarded for this (as much as I hope this game itself is a fun reward, though)

Still quite a motivation for winning, I hope, with "treasure" and perhaps other rewards to be distributed.

Let me know what you think.

Right now I'm working on addressing some of your balance concerns plus introducing the storyline for round 2. Start getting your character sheets ready with the new rules for now, and then if we have to slightly modify them for balance purposes then we will.

Yep all 6 of you. Seems fair, if you think about it, yes? I mean, we were only going to play 1 game at first and now we're on 3. So...

I appreciate that. I've got the storyline to introduce round 2 all written up. It takes a wild turn and introduces two non-player characters!!!

As soon as everyone is ready, you can create your new character sheets. I'm going back right now to implement most of Fexen's suggestions because I think he made some good points. Well, I didn't implement them all exactly, I just made FOCUS, HIDE IN SHADOW and COAT IN POISON all more useful as I think he's right that they were underpowered.

In the future, you won't have to re-make your character every time, this was just because we changed a lot. Of course you will still have options for enhancing/changing (after this game, everyone gains a level and class specializations and new abilities are introduced. Gold is also being introduced.)

Then as soon as we're ready, I'll post the new story and we can get started.

Cheers, they look all better now.
Just a question, does those better healing potions replace the original 5HP healing or there will be 2 different types of potions for those who have the new. If rewarded ones replace the original, I think when they will be duplicated by mage's skill, they will give a 5HP potion instead, so that, for example we won't duplicated 25HP potions, that would be crazy.

Yes, I just changed a couple things here: no one starts with a 5HP potion, no one. (It's not going to be all that important in the long run since you will be able to buy them eventually, but they will be expensive so they're not ridiculous.) With the amount of potions that are going to be used during this battle, I hardly think it necessary.

And I made sure the wording indicated that the Mage may "copy" any health potion, but since it's a basic spell, the "copies" are only minor ones, worth 5HP.

Anyone notice any other skills/spells that are underpowered or overpowered?

Only comment I have so far concerns warrior bow vs mage sling.
The warrior is supposed to be most damage & hit points.
Mage is supposed to be most versatile.
However, at range 3 warrior only does 1 more point of damage than mage.
I would reduce mage sling damage by 1 (to D6-1) & add a skill / spell that does single target damage (maybe D6 or D6+1 at range 3 or 4) with limited uses.
