Explorer 8 can't handle those, and I think we should support that one for a while longer, until most XP-using visitors have moved on to more modern operating systems and/or browsers. Yes, a bunch of hacks could be used (or conditional comments), but it's better to keep stuff relatively simple.
I mean, we're even trying to support IE6 for those poor sods still using that ancient browser on locked-down systems accessing corporate intranet solutions. And though there's a relatively simple javascript solution getting it to support semitransparent pngs, I'm not sure the same can be said for rgba.
