We've already decorated our tree. We've started the sale. But seems like we're forgetting something.

Oh! That's right! It's not the holidays without a chance to visit GOG.com, looking for new and interesting ways that Coala has photo-chopped wintery iconography into them. It's a tradition that we're continuing for our fourth year!

The contest is simple: go through our catalog; we've edited 12 images, scattered across our wide selection of games, to include obvious holiday references, such as santa hats, Christmas trees, or reindeer. For an example, take a look at one of our screenshots from last year:

When you’ve got them all, list them all in an email to "contest@gog.com" with the subject line being "GOG.com 2012 Scavenger Screenshot Hunt". From every valid application we will pick 10 winners who got all the games right and gift them two games from the entire catalog. The contest ends on Tuesday December 25th 2012 11:59 GMT.

Or, I suppose, on the 21st of December when the world erupts in fire and doom. But if we're still around after that, then we'll end the contest officially on the 24th. ;)
12 images.
done.
Well, that was fun. Finished finding them as my room mates are watching White Christmas. Fun fact: I only own one of the 12 games used this year.
I maintain that this is a positively vile contest that serves to waste a tremendous amount of time for a lot of people.

I encourage people to learn a little bit of Python to automate the search process so as to get at least a little something productive out of the activity.

GOG.com: The contest ends on Tuesday December 25th ...But ...we'll end the contest officially on the 24th.
T stands behind a GOG staffer sitting at his desk, diligently typing out a grammatically (and logically) suspect description for the 2012 Screenshot Scavenger Hunt. The staffer is desperately trying to avoid acknowledging T's presence, as T has recently ingested an enormous amount of cocaine and is scampering about GOG HQ with no idea where he left his pants.

"You know, I love screwing with customers!" T says excitedly.

"Not again," says the staffer, under his breath, continuing to pretend not to notice T while hastily finishing his description. But it's too late.

"No no, say it 'officially' ends a day before the date you just gave!" says T. "Heeheeheee!"

"Oh boy..." says the staffer with a sigh, and T's evil laughter echoes through the halls.

Annoyed, the lowly staffer does as commanded, knowing that this will inevitably come back to him, and he - not the drug-fueled, pantless, somewhat less than semi-enigmatic T - will eventually be the one to have to be critiqued by pineapple-fueled LA GOGer-writers penning short scenes that invent wildly inaccurate but still oddly believable circumstances to explain what is in fact merely an insignificant typo.

And so life goes in the winding, drafty halls of GOG HQ.

Jonni: In 2010 it went on for five days with five sets of screenshots for a total of 25 - wonder why they haven't done that format again.
Too many games to go through? *shrug*

I can't believe people are actually doing this. There must be close to 6,000 screenshots...
Man that was a pain in the butt. Found 11 of them and then was stumped on the 12th, had to go back through all the games a second time till I found the final one.

Early Merry Xmas everyone!
I'm sorry for a little advertisement but my current giveaway is connected with contest so if you want to win Defender's Quest feel free to join:

It's actually not that bad. I just zoom in the web page so that the thumbnail previews are a bit larger, and look at each group of six. If something stands out, zoom in!

Once you get into a rhythm, e.g. sort catalog alphabetically, open 20 pages at once, go through them, use Ctrl+W to close pages, etc., it goes smoothly.

Once you start to realize that it was a dumb idea, you are to far in to stop because you've spend to much time already. In theory you can easily do it in 1 1/2 hours when you look at every picture individually, but it took me almost twice that with the occasional pause.
