If you preordered Botanicula on GOG.com or have been paying attention to this quirky adventure game, you very probably heard all of the noise around the Humble Botanicula Debut and how some users were left rather unhappy about paying $8.99 for a preorder of the game while people who bought it on day one could pay whatever they wanted for it and they got more goodies than the GOG.com preorder provided.

This left an unsurprisingly sour taste in some gamers’ mouths, and we were just as surprised by the launch of the Humble Botanicula Debut as anyone else was. As soon as we saw the bundle, we reached out to the guys at Amanita about providing our users with something in return for their preorders; we got them to agree to give us a number of goodies from the bundle, and we’re giving you and every other user who bought the game before 12:00 GMT on the 20th of April will receive a few things. Everyone who bought Botanicula before we published this news will automatically be getting Machinarium to your shelf on Monday, and we’ll be emailing all of those purchasers with links where they can download the full soundtrack and a special artbook of Botanicula designs and character sketches.

Finally, we wanted to give you guys something that you couldn’t get in the Humble Bundle to make sure that you didn’t feel like you got a raw deal. To that end, courtesy of our fine friends at CDP RED, we’re happy to let you know that we’re also giving you and everyone else who already bought Botanicula a free copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut! This game will also be on your shelf on Monday, so look for it then.

At GOG.com, we’ll never knowingly disappoint you, and while this preorder mishap may have made you a little unhappy, we hope that you enjoy Botanicula--it’s a fantastic game and many of us here at the office are fans--and, if you’d like to say “thanks!” to our pals at CDP RED, check out The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition, available right now at your favorite DRM-free game store, GOG.com.

Have a great weekend!

Darn, I've just bought "The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut" three days ago...

But I'm happy you are doing what you can to satisfy your customers :) Good job guys!
Nice one, GOG, glad You guys found a solution. ;)
I am genuinely impressed.
You just simply rules, guys! Can't wait to be on Monday to get Witcher 1. Thanks a lot for your incredible sense of customer service.
This always seems to happen to me, I buy a game on GOG and two days later is the chance to get it for less or free. I just bought the Witcher 1 for 50% off and now I could have gotten it for pre-ordering botanicula. Oh well, nice bonus for those of us who haven't bought it yet.
This should dissuade customers jumping ship gog to other stores for their purchases. GOG is the only classy act in town who will offer this kind of service. Gaming company with a gamer's heart.

Good move GOG!

MoP: Kooky is one of their side projects.
The history of the film is a bit more complicated than that; Jakub Dvorský (of Amanita) was basically picked as a replacement for František Skála who was originally designing the film until he and the director had some kind of major argument. Dvorský was a logical choice, since the visual style of both Samorost games is very heavily inspired by Skála's work.

So Amanita doesn't really have anything to do with Kooky; it's just Dvorský who does, and I assume he worked for the film more or less as a contractor. So calling it a "side project" is a bit of a stretch.
This will hopefully settle the matter. Now can we go back to enjoying these fine games?

[gestures to GOG] Good work. You took a bullet for the team. We respect that.
good. hopefully this will stop the whining.

i bought the humble bundle because, quite frankly, i wouldn't have bought Botanicula or Machinarium otherwise. simple as that.

hopefully now everybody's happy.
Now that's what I call "customer love" at its best.

Great job guys, even if I didn't pre-order Botanicula I felt it with all my heart. :)

jaylib80: I don't understand why Amanita can't just give people who pre-ordered the game all the extras from the bundle. Is it so hard to give all their customers a copy of Kooky?

bazilisek: Technically? No. Legally? Oh yes.
I'm sure Amanita can arrange for HIB keys for those who pre-ordered :P

I already have Witcher EE, but I'm really impressed with this gesture from GOG, big kudos from me.

I'm irked that the goodies are not linked to my account, and Amanita are not in my good book for this stunt.

I would point out that you got the Witcher: Enhanced Edition for $4.99, and the preorder for Botanicula was $8.99. So you saved money! :)
Good stuff. Kudos on the way this cock up was handled at your end gog, classy all the way. Thank You for the gift and for the extra Boatnicula shinies you got for us.

Amanita, thanks for the shinies, the artbook is a nice touch, can't wait to chek it out. This was an unfortunate mishap and i'll gladly leave it at that but plase be more tactful in the future, pissing off your partners and the folks who support you with coin upfront is definitely not smart.

TheEnigmaticT:
I bought the game as a gift for someone else.
Who gets these extra goodies, me or my friend?
I am interested in getting the free Machinarium, but would want to pass on the Botanicula goodies to my friend.
I also have no use for the free Witcher, as I already have it, but I'm not sure if my friend does.
Is this possible?
