If you preordered Botanicula on GOG.com or have been paying attention to this quirky adventure game, you very probably heard all of the noise around the Humble Botanicula Debut and how some users were left rather unhappy about paying $8.99 for a preorder of the game while people who bought it on day one could pay whatever they wanted for it and they got more goodies than the GOG.com preorder provided.

This left an unsurprisingly sour taste in some gamers’ mouths, and we were just as surprised by the launch of the Humble Botanicula Debut as anyone else was. As soon as we saw the bundle, we reached out to the guys at Amanita about providing our users with something in return for their preorders; we got them to agree to give us a number of goodies from the bundle, and we’re giving you and every other user who bought the game before 12:00 GMT on the 20th of April will receive a few things. Everyone who bought Botanicula before we published this news will automatically be getting Machinarium to your shelf on Monday, and we’ll be emailing all of those purchasers with links where they can download the full soundtrack and a special artbook of Botanicula designs and character sketches.

Finally, we wanted to give you guys something that you couldn’t get in the Humble Bundle to make sure that you didn’t feel like you got a raw deal. To that end, courtesy of our fine friends at CDP RED, we’re happy to let you know that we’re also giving you and everyone else who already bought Botanicula a free copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut! This game will also be on your shelf on Monday, so look for it then.

At GOG.com, we’ll never knowingly disappoint you, and while this preorder mishap may have made you a little unhappy, we hope that you enjoy Botanicula--it’s a fantastic game and many of us here at the office are fans--and, if you’d like to say “thanks!” to our pals at CDP RED, check out The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition, available right now at your favorite DRM-free game store, GOG.com.

Have a great weekend!

--The GOG.com Team
That's very nice from you although I didn't buy Botanicula. But I already have the games you give so I'm not too jealous :p
Nicely handled. Must have been an unpleasant surprise for you guys (more so than for us).

Though I think it's kind of odd Amanita won't just let you add the soundtrack to the bonus content, since it's also included in the bundle.

EDIT: got the download links, in a fancy letter signed with Marcin's and Guillaume's signatures :D Note that the download links will expire 3 May 2012 at 12:00 GMT, so check your mail before then.

Well, I suppose that's one way of showing that GOG is absolutely awesome. :-) (I just hope you won't pay too dearly for these PR points.)
In all seriousness, very good job guys. Amanita should have kept you in the loop with their decision to cooperate with Humble Indie Bundle.
Massive +rep for GOG for doing their best to rectify an issue that they weren't even responsible for. GOG could have washed their hands of this issue easily. They could have said that this was Amanita's fault (which is true), or they could have pointed out that Amanita wasn't willing or able to compensate for the blunder in a better way. Instead, GOG convinces Amanita to partly make up for it, and adds another product to the compensation deal by themselves.

This is one of the stories that I'll be telling others when explaining to them why it's a good idea to buy at GOG! :)
Wow thank you guys. I could literally hug you guys.

Needless to say I think gog.com will be seeing alot more of my money in the future.
Awww, you guys and gals are great. I'm really impressed by how far you've gone out of your way to fix something that wasn't even your fault.
Lots of respect for you guys. I've never doubt in you from the moment I came here. But your generosity exceeds my wildest expectations. Pure awesomeness!
Thanks so much gog.com. I appreciate this fine gesture. I myself already have The Witcher and Machinarium on gog.com, but I'm glad that everyone else who doesn't gets to experience these fine games if they haven't already.

I got the Humble Bundle, like all the previous bundles, and paid more than the $8.99 preorder here at GOG. And if you've bought the previous Humble Bundles you know that Samorost 2 and Machinarium both have appeared before. So I paid more for one game and a move, and got no Witcher for free.

But am I bitter about that?

Hell no. I like the whole charity thing that the Humble guys have going, and I really hope the money reach the organizations and the projects that need them.

Both GOG and Humble have my full support. Here I buy the games I know are really good, and at the Humble site I buy the games that I have no idea if I will like or not. But I know when buying the bundles I support small game developers and charity as well.

Cheers :)
Wow, so much stuff, thanks GOG. 8)

Thanks GOG. I've almost forgiven you for that damn publicity stunt a while back. ;)
Nice improvisation, guys! I haven´t bought the game (I plan to), but it´s nice you went that far just to be fair to your customers! Well done!

I´m starting to be jealous of the soundtrack :P
If you tried to get this kind of compensation and customer service from a company like EA, they would laugh in your face.
EA-"So the game you purchased from us yesterday is now on sale for basically free? And you want US to do something about it?! TROLOLOLOLOLOLOL"

TheEnigmaticT: That's...quite complex. I don't think we have a good way to do it, but ask Support on Monday and they may be able to help you sort things out.
I will do.
Presumably they would need to know who I gifted it to?
If it does prove too troublesome to divide the spoils, I would prefer that he gets it.
