Elmofongo: Hey I know the books should have been made because why, but are the Before Watchmen books any good?

Each books are dedicated entirely on each of the characters in their own sort of mini series so I just like to know which ones done good and which ones sucked?
Sorry, didn't your response earlier, I thought GOG was pestering me about another game update; I never bothered with the Watchmen prequels, because they were cash-ins by DC, and more importantly, Watchmen covered everything that needed to be covered regarding the characters, so I didn't see the point in doing the prequels.
oh sorry i thought you meant dh, nevermind.

(i was about to mention hellboy, but i'll let you exchange wrong suggestions instead)

Actually I can't : I basically never buy books online (I knew a little imported comics shop in Geneva, that I used for that). But I'm sure other gog comics readers can help.
All Star Superman
Batman Year One
Batman the Long Halloween.

The Old JLA Comics (from around the 90s i think).

Also i REALLY REALLY recommend delving into the DC Animated Universe. At least watch Batman Animated and Justice League.

The Before Watchmen titles are pointless. They add nothing to the story, and anything they tell you about the characters has already been said much better by Moore. Basically it's a pure cash-in move by DC, and are certainly not required reading.

Astro City is published currently by Vertigo, the DC imprint. In my opinion it's one of the very best long running series published, and well worth trying to get hold of the older stuff, but if you can't you can get started with the new #1, published a few months ago. It takes what Moore did for superheroes in Watchmen and runs with the idea all the way, often focussing on how normal peoples' lives are affected by the presence of superheroes. I'd class it as a must read for comic fans.

Also, I second the vote for Hellblazer. It's absolutely bloody fantastic, and doesn't have a dull moment in the whole 300 issue run. The new Constantine title isn't as good, but worth a look if you like Hellblazer.

If you're willing to look outside of DC, have a look at DMZ, Maus, Fables (ok, that one's technically DC...), Punk Rock Jesus (that may be Vertigo, also...), and definitely, definitely read Hellboy, BPRD, Baltimore, and basically everything Mike Mignola has ever written, because the man is like King chuffing Midas.
After doing some reading, Batwoman the new 52 version is really good. The art work is visually appealing, the plot is actually very interesting. I couldn't put it down.

I'll have to give Batwoman a read. I've seen it being highly recommended everywhere.
New 52 Wonder Woman is also very good. I'm anxiously waiting for my second volume to arrive in the mail.

You mean to read them on or buy them? The Dark Horse site has previews for a lot of issus which will give you an idea of the art and writing style (Hellboy Zone at Dark Horse). I don't know any you can read them on, but the oversized library editions of Hellboy are very reasonably priced. They contain about 2 TPBs worth of material in an oversized page format, with sketches and extra introductions by the editor of DH and MM himself... I usually just get them off Amazon, although I have a few ongoing ones subscribed through Forbidden Planet...

Also, I agree that New 52 Wonder Woman is brilliant.
Are you looking for physical or digital copies

For digital, there is only the Dark Horse Digital store:

https://digital.darkhorse.com/

For physical copies, if you are looking for TPB's you can try bookdepository.co.uk
or if you prefer single issues you can try milehighcomics.com.

Well I have seen the Watchmen film and this is me coming from reading the book.

Spoilers

Pros: Some Charcter Designs look exactly like the book (Rorschach and Dr. Manhattan and some others) while I don't really mind Nite Owl looking too much like Batman. Also the cinemotography looks gorgeous, for example the scene where Rorschach was at the graveyard while its raining and there was this close up shot at his face with water dripping down his hat, it looked stunning, very immersive and finally the Comedian was perfect in this film, he was exactly like the Comedian imo.

Cons: They ruined a good number of things, They ruined Ozymandias horribly in this film and his costume looks almost nothing like his classic costume and yes he looked more obviously like a villian where the whole book I never thought he was the villian until the end.

Oh Rorshach and Doctor Manhattan's voices, ergh I never thought of Rorschach's voice as basically Christian Bale's Batman at all when I read the book, (to be honest I always pictured his voice to be more like Jon from Delocated, but less humorous) and Dr. Manhatten I and I am sure everybody pictured his voice more booming and etheral rather than that silent monotone voice heck his speech bubbles in the book which were colored in blue seems to imply it.

Yes the fighting scenes were stupid sometimes, I never knew or even thought Rorshach learned Martial Arts, I understand Nite Owl and Silk Specter to some degree, but not Rorshach or Comedian also speaking of Nite Owl and Silk Specter, when they try to free Rorshach from Prison with the help of a distracting prison riot, does that fight scene against the rioting prisoners defeats the purpous of the prison riot as a distraction?

And finally the movie's faithfulness to the graphic novel, when I read the Graphic Novel I always imagined it as a TV mini series sort of like a HBO mini-series, but as a full length film it just does not work, for example again the scene with Rorscach in the Graveyard that was the ending of Chapter 2 in the Novel, it was an appropriate ending and to see it just continuing on like how movies does defeats the meaning of each chapters endings, this whole movie would have been much better if it was a TV mini series.

Yeah I know this movie is already passed, but hey I am just throwing out my opinion thats all, heck people still talk about old movies to this day.

Just a quick question:

What is the difference betweem Action Comics and the simply entitled Superman comics? Same goes for Batman and Detective Comics.

What are the differences?

Post New 52 made Action Comics about earlier Superman stories from when he moved to Metropolis. Plain Superman are current stories which should be in line with events in other comics.
The Batman, Detective Comics, Batman and Robin, and Batman the Dark Knight are just different titles focusing on different kind of stories. It's just a way to have more than one Batman title being written by different writers at the same time. Sometimes they could reference events from the other titles but most of the time they just do their own thing.
