Magnitus: There is? How lucrative of a market is it? Is the offering price for it going up or has it stabilized?

I have over 50 old game boxes and I couldn't throw them out due to obsessive compulsiveness as I couldn't convince myself to throw these beautiful boxes to the waste where they'd be sullied and torn apart.

Needless to say I'm extremely grateful for the digital game market. You guys are saved me from making the heart wrenching decision between throwing these lovely boxes to the curb or living in an unlivable home (in my defense, I would ultimately have gone with getting rid of them). Well, in all fairness, boxes are small now and back as CD-casings, but they still take extra space which would have accumulated over the decades.

Thank you. Wish you'd have come sooner though. My wardrobe is full of old game boxes that date all the way back to my early teens (btw, my 30th was Saturday, happy birthday to me).
It depends, most of the auctions include the game discs as well, but people are willing to spend big bucks. The difference in price for say Willy Beamish between just the disks and the disks and the packaging can be a hundred dollars.

I've seen games listed for even more than that.

I must confess that I'm not sure how many of those actually sell at those prices, but if you look around the internet for the games you have boxes for, chances are you can make some good money at it. If you only have boxes, you might have to buy the disks, but it's frequently worth doing so.

Of course it's going to depend a great deal on both the condition of the materials as well as the age. Most of the games that are going for megabucks didn't sell well originally or are quite old.

My compulsion to save my state quarters led me to have several hundred dollars over the course of a few years. Eventually I managed to shake it long enough to part with them, and I was able to buy myself a nice tripod.
I have 3x36 gallon tubs full of boxes. I'm ready to be done with boxes:(
I have several dozen boxed console games.

None for PC though. Most of those are in simple jewel cases.
I'll post my few in a bit. I have an old Ultima case and some Baldur's Gate stuff.

Nice man, just something about the boxes eh, that have this cool look to them. Also what I really enjoyed back in the day was that you got all kinds of goodies, flyers etc in the boxes, these days it's just a cd / dvd rom in a standard dvd case.
For those Interested in what These Boxed Games Can turn over on Ebay, i recently Sold Blood Big Box (Doom Type Game from Late 90's) For £80.00.

It wasn't until this moment that I realized I have a problem...Those boxes---make me droool. ;-) Very nice collection Lou...I had to get rid of just about all of of my old large boxes, had to make room for a move..it was a sad day...Even my Lords of the Realm 2 box, gone...Hang on to them Lou, as you would hold on to your own crying infant in the event of a major catastrophe....If there is a fire in your house...You know what to do. ;-P
Really, thanks for sharing the pictures! :D

I see you too got suckered into buying the collector's edition of Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor:)

Can7ona: how many would you say you have in your collection?
Haven't tried counting yet, but before I went on that mad eBay shopping spree, I had about 80 games in my collection. I bought about 60-70 games on eBay, so I think I should have about 140-150 right now. Unfortunately, a lot of games got lost along the way too. I should have had some even rarer classics like Thief, UFO Enemy Unknown and Ultimate Doom, but they never arrived :(. At least the sellers were nice enough to refund, even though they didn't have to (since I was well past the open resolution date)

Wow.

The most insane I ever saw was Wolfenstein 3D, UK edition. It only had one freaking 1.44mb disk inside. No manuals, nothing. Final bid price?

$240.

Reminds me of this guy I read about on the papers who owned a crazy huge collection of comics and rare figurines. His house caught fire while he was gone, and when he returned, everything was either burned to a crisp, or melted.

Imagine if that happened to your games, Lou. Imagine! xD

If I knew then what I know now, I'd still have 20+ years worth of boxes and games. The ones I kept got put into ziplock bags while packing for some move and the boxes went buh-bye. At the same time, a bunch of games were permanently and unceremoniously purged from my collection. Stupid, stupid thing to do but I just didn't know any better. Definitely have some regrets now.
I sold a complete in box copy of Alice: An Interactive Adventure for $550.

Yes, really.

Edit: I used to have complete in box copies of a bunch of games, but my mother forced me to throw out the boxes one day. I lost the boxes for Gabriel Knight Mysteries, GK3, Tachyon The Fringe, Phantasmagoria Stagefright... and Myst, but that's no big loss.

We did have a fire about four years back - thankfully most of my things were still packed in boxes and stored. Lost a lot of Books, Game Guides, Manuals, Full PC Gamer Collection - Since Vol. #1 etc. Even though I do like these things they are replaceable. Thankfully all the family and "Cats" made it ok. We were out of the house for almost a year for the rebuild. I had my PSP and an old laptop for games.
Hey, Lighthouse!

My brothers and I played that game once at our uncle's house when we were young. Scared the CRAP out of us. Didn't know anyone else had ever heard of it.
I got rid of all the boxes and most of the manuals years ago. Felt strange throwing all that stuff away, but I just didn't have the room anymore.
