Just a word of warning to those wanting to buy boxed games. While there are a few RARE sought after games that fetch quite a bit, you shouldn't be paying more than about $35-40 for most stuff. Also, best advice I can give is to scout around before buying. Just to give you an example I have seen the same game in the same condtion being sold by a UK seller for 34GBP where as an American seller had it listed for roughly $19.

Another tip is to check the postage fees, some sellers will list the item as cheap and then rob you on the postage.

jpinsa: I was wondering how many of you Goggers out there still own and collect boxed games? I have attached a pic of my small but growing collection, would be great to see some other pics of your collections or rare stuff.
I care only about the game inside, so nowadays I much prefer e.g. GoG games to old boxed games. The only time I nowadays buy old boxed games is if I come by a very good deal which is not available in e.g. GoG, but that doesn't happen often. I guess the last time was buying used "Terra Nova" CD (no manual, no box) for euro or two, maybe two months ago.

In the meantime, I've bought a couple dozen GoG games.

For me, I tired quickly of the digital format, in the beginning it was nice, but then it just started feeling like a bunch of files on a hard drive, I guess I've always been a bit of a collector, in fact I still buy and play LP's. Alot of people ask me why I don't just convert them to MP3 and I usually tell them that I prefer playing the actual record on a turntable.

With games I prefer to see the original installer and to run it on it's native OS, I don't want it running in some emulator LOL!!!! I guess I'm just weird that way. Of course I only buy games that I have played or want to play, there are some guys who buy so that they can sit on a shelf but that's kinda silly, since most pressed cd's apparently only have a life span of about 70 years anyway.

Digital is very cool though in terms of keeping a backup and / or if your cd copy doesn't play anymore, I would probably buy all digital copies eventually for my games.

lowyhong: Nice collection
Out of curiosity, what's that behind Quake 4?
I have tons of them, boxes are all in the attic, manuals and cd's are in my PC room, too many to list really, I really miss the boxed games, with their big manuals, Vampire, Nocturne, Of Steamworks and Magic, Ultima etc. I still have the original System Shock 2. DVD cases ruined PC games. I think the last decent boxed PC game I bought was Oblivion collectors edition.

I've kept around a few of my larger boxes (Crusader collection, Tie Fighter CD) to store manuals in, and thrown out the rest...

The Shadow of Yserbius. Truth be told, I'd never heard of it until I stumbled upon it on eBay. I ran a quick search on Mobygames and it looked like a lot of fun.

Hm, interesting. Never heard of it.
I sold all my boxes in 2002 or so when I got out of gaming. I got back into gaming in 2004 or so but I went all digital whenever possible and continued that for years. Around 2009 I decided I missed boxes and started buying them again, in addition to getting old games in boxes off ebay from time to time. Just recently, like 2 months ago, I realized that was dumb and I stopped.

So... all digital again. My reasons honestly have a lot to do with directly support developers rather than stores.
The biggest problem for me with digital currently and for years to come I guess is download speed. In my country Internet is expensive, especially if you want a fast line, so currently I use a 384kbps DSL line, at least it's uncapped, but as you can imagine a game download of 4GB takes an aeon! I do still love my boxes though, sometimes I just sit looking at the artwork, manuals etc.
I'm not crazy about digi, I like to have a physical product that I can touch, stroke and sniff and sometimes even lick, if the sniffing is good. ;P

The same. The only box I remember keeping because it looks so pretty and nice is the box for the 1996 adventure game, Fable (not to be confused with the 2004 action-RPG by the same name). The box looks and feels almost like a real book.

For pretty much all other games, the box is some flimsy cardboard box with some cliched picture on it.

Mind you, this may be partly because I'm from Europe, as it sometimes seemed to me the US versions of PC games had better looking boxes. But then the US version boxes were many times also much bigger, which just makes it even more reasonable to get rid of them in order to save room. By getting rid of the gigantic Journeyman Project Trilogy box (ordered it from US), I think I could regain one of my rooms for living once again.

Speaking of sniffing, do eBay sellers like yourself normally spray the boxes with some sort of scented disinfectant? My eBay games have a citrus smell, which, as I saw in a Youtube video, could belong to a type of disinfectant.

Erm.... I'm not an ebay seller lol, my boxes smell of pure unadulterated cardboard, on saying that, if I bought something off ebay, I would probably spray it with disinfectant when I received it, just in case and I would never lick something I bought off ebay :)
