I didn't do anything bad and probably already lost 30 rep since registration. :'(
This is one of the funny things about rep. You could come to the forums one day and be in the negatives and not even know what happened.

I've hosted a couple giveaways and giving away game codes on a whim helps too. Also posting thoughtful or informative posts is a sure way to get rep up. Be careful what you post though, as just anything doesn't go. Don't bitch about GOG and how much you hate it and want it to burn in virtual hell, and don't rant about how DRM is actually a god send (things I really don't believe in, as GOG is awesome sauce and DRM is evil).

Such as code giveaways like this :)
