GameRager: Scalpel in hand, you curse and grumble at the lousy fate you now find yourself in as you attempt to remove the cover over the light fixture. With a few minutes of hard work and a bit of luck(even without a lucky penny) you manage to remove the screws and take the cover off completely.

Before removing the bulb, though, you ponder if you should search your own room first for anything of use/out of place.

OOC: If you want to search your room it would be best to do so now before you remove the room's only light source.
OOC: Whoops, forgot I hadn't searched my room yet...

I search my room for anything interesting.

I search my room for anything interesting.
As you look around your cell for anything of use(Before you up and remove the room's main source of illumination) you remember that you left something to snack on later under your pillow. Reaching under it you find a package of venison jerky you had smuggled in by one of the guards. "Mmm....them's good eatins." you think as you put the package in your bag, before searching the bedding and under the bed itself in case you forgot anything else. Nothing else seems to be forthcoming though.

OOC: I'll wait for Rod. I just drew a picture inspired by the lynch scene equivalent. I would have drawn Staines in the background holding the locker but I didn't know how to make him look like a sailor. Tattoos? Big 17th century ornamental-hat? periscope? Maybe I'll draw all the characters as the game progresses.

Crazy's dithering at the doorway.
"Give me a shout if you need me." I mumble.
Got all excited for a moment there. Over nothing?
What did that crazy man want with my bed? What's he doing with that light?
Hmm. Trying to hide his room in darkness?
attempt to search Tanner's room for clues before the light is removed.
"Scuse me there friend! I think I left a... uh. an individually wrapped oat and raisin cookie in here earlier?
damn crazy..."

Satisfied that there is nothing useful left in my room, I switch the light off and remove the bulb. Seeing Coleman, I warn him "I think I found another hole in your room. Y'know, one with some of those... things in. Don't even think about trying to reassemble your bed."

I go to try and swap my bulb into the fitting in Coleman's room, removing screws with my scalpel where necessary.

Seeing as how neither you nor Staines seem to want to open the toilet supply closet door(nervousness perhaps?), you both decide to return to the Bunkroom and gather your courage a bit. As you do so, you notice Tanner messing up your room as he props your bed up against the wall of your cell. He then goes into his own cell and seems to be fiddling with the light fixture itself.

"Wonder what he's up to?" you think to yourself as you watch from a safe distance while pretending to relax on the couch next to the TV. After removing the grating over the bulb itself, you watch as he starts to search his room in earnest.....as he does so he slips something into his bag before searching the rest of his room, a small package of some sort.

"Hmm, I wonder what that was? Just what is he hiding from me? Eh, better go have a look around his room before he hides it away in darkness." you mumble quietly as you get up and approach Tanner's cell, trying your best to ponder a believable excuse to give Tanner as to why he should let you search his cell.

"Odd, I don't remember you having been in my room at any time during the past few days. Regardless, as you can see there's nothing of much importance left in here." he says as he motions his hand in a sweeping arc of his room. As you can plainly see there is nothing much to be found, just as he says. The bedding is on the floor and seems bereft of clues, and nothing is on the nearby nightstand either.

"Maybe your eyes aren't as good as mine......maybe I can find something of use that you missed." you say to him as you enter.

"Be my guest." Tanner says in reply as he watches you toss the bedding once more for good measure and look under the bed. Not much in the way of clues or anything else is to be found though, just as he said.

As you leave begrudgingly Tanner mentions something about a creature hole in your cell, and to not go in there unless absolutely necessary.

Removing the bulb from the light in your cell, you go back to Coleman's room, watching for any signs of nastiness within as you try to remove the cover from the light fixture within. With a bit of luck, you manage to remove it, and within minutes the bulb is replaced.

"Good work all around I think." you say with pride, as you reach for the switch on the nearby wall. With a *click* warm light floods into the room.

As the room lights up you look around the room in case you missed something of use before.......besides the bed and bedding blocking the hole on the wall you spot a wooden box on the nearby nightstand.

The box itself is made of cherry wood and polished beautifully.......a carving of a steam locomotive on the lid.

I rush over to grab the box, hoping cherry wood is as delicious as it's fruit.
With a final warning to Coleman to "watch where you swing that axe!", I open the Toilet Supply closet door.....
With the acknowledgement that Staines is ready for action I ready myself by the Toilet Supply closet door in order to assist him.

Seeing the box you wonder what could be inside it, especially as Coleman seems to be very on edge lately(moreso than usual at least). Picking up the box you wonder if you should open it with Coleman being in the commons area of the Bunkroom & not more than 15 feet from you and all, but your apprehension is reduced somewhat when you notice that Staines has regained his courage and is now heading back into the toilets area along with Coleman.

"Now is as good a time as any to see what Coleman's been hiding in this thing." you muse as you examine the box itself. The box you now hold is about 5 inches long/1 foot wide/5-6 inches high, and appears to be made of a fine Cherry wood. Holding the box closed is a small brass latch.

Do you open the box?

I open the box without hesitation.

Gathering up enough courage to open the TSC door, you motion for Coleman to stop wandering around the Bunkroom aimlessly & to come over to where you are. With a nod he joins you next to the door to the toilets area, and you both head into the bathroom.

JoeSapphire: With the acknowledgement that Staines is ready for action I ready myself by the Toilet Supply closet door in order to assist him.
Entering the bathrooms with weapons ready, you approach the supply closet door with some slight apprehension remaining. As you do, you hear something.......a low moaning sound and some movement in the room beyond......grabbing the door handle, you fling it open, ready to whip to death anything moving in the space beyond.

The sight that greets your eyes is shocking, to say the least. Charlie, one of the orderlies on this floor, lays injured on the floor of the supply closet, a bit of piping in his hand is stained with more of the gunk you recently cleaned off your whistle chain as well as what appears to be blood from a bandaged wound on his arm. As he sees you he leans back a bit into a sitting position against a nearby wall.

"Jeezus, you two nearly gave me a heart attack." he says with a sigh "With those things running around I ran in here to hide.....I was nearly home free too, well until that spider bastard creeped at me from the ceiling and bit me." he continues, motioning to the wound on his shoulder, which seems to be slightly infected.

"Are you ok Charlie?" you(Coleman) ask, going over to where he sits.

"I'll be ok I think." he replies.

"Spider....what....what spider?" Staines asks, looking around for any signs of an arachnid presence.

"You mean you didn't see it out there in the bathroom? Big as a pitbull it was, and with a personality to match....I beat it senseless earlier but it managed to crawl away somewhere. If you go back out there i'd be careful." Charlie whispers, as he watches the door that leads back into the toilets area.

For a short moment the three of you hear some sort of sound coming from the Bunkroom next door and what sounds like someone complaining loudly for a few moments, and it sets the three of you on edge. It dies down though after a moment or two.

Seeing that Charlie is hurt, and one of the few kind orderlies on this floor, you decide to get him into the Bunkroom and maybe have some of the others tend to his wounds a bit better.

"Staines, help me escort Charlie into the Bunkroom where he'll be safe....we can check out this room later." you say to Staines, waiting for him to nod in approval before the both of you each take an arm and lift Charlie up off the floor of the supply closet.

As the two of you enter the toilets area you are caught off guard by a MASSIVE CREATURE the size of a pitbull(a large pitbull). Arachnid in appearance, it bares it's fangs as it swoops down from the ceiling in an attempt to catch you unaware. As you motion for Staines to quickly set Charlie on the floor next to the sinks and prepare for battle, the arachnid creature swoops down again, just barely cutting Charlie in the abdomen(not a puncturing wound, just a grazing one.) before Staines is able to get him out of the way before the creature comes back for another strike. Preparing yourselves for battle, you watch as the creature scuttles along the webbing on the ceiling, going above it on occasion in one spot and coming back out in another as it decides whether to attack or not.

I pull out my flare gun.
I drag Charlie toward the buinkroom with my eyes on the ceiling.
As soon as I get a clear shot, I Burn the f***er!

SirPrimalform: OOC: Yes, yes I do.

I open the box without hesitation.
OOC: LIKE A BOSS? ;)

Opening the small latch, you open the lid of the box, and are knocked to the floor(more by surprise than the force) as pennies fly out at you from inside. Standing back up, you notice the box has fallen to the floor, and pennies and bedsprings lie all over.

"That paranoid nutter.....just what was he trying to do, kill someone?" you shout, among other expletives, as you pick up one of the pennies off of the floor. Looking at it, you note that a lucky clover has been etched into it, with a line going through it. Looking down at the rest of the mess on the floor, you note that the rest of the pennies seem to be similarly marked. "Unlucky pennies? Now there's a first. Though why in hell was Coleman collecting them?" you wonder as you bend over to pick up the box "And why the trap?"

Inside the box, besides a few springs and pennies that didn't fall out of the box, you find a small conductor's whistle, plated in what appears to be gold. Engraved on the front it reads "For 25 years of loyal service......Miskatonic RR Company" Putting the whistle back in the box along with all the pennies and springs from the floor, you put the box back on the nightstand.

OOC: You could take the whistle if you want, but Coleman might not like it. You could use it somehow later in game, let Coleman possibly recover it later and use it himself, etc.

As the spider-like beastie crawls down from the ceiling you keep your eyes on it and your companions as best as you can.....readying your flare gun you take aim as it scuttles around the ceiling, watching it carefully as it swoops down & back up again every so often as it tries to get an attack in. Avoiding a near fatal attack to your head, you watch as it scuttles along the ceiling as you take aim.....lobbing off a shot as it attempts to reenter it's webbing "nest".

As you do so it just misses, but luckily it sinks into the nearby webbing......setting it alight.

"Fook yeah." you say to Coleman and Charlie, pumping your fist into the air. As you do so, the blaze intensifies, and sounds of the creature dying in agony can be heard from above the fire.

"I'm glad we killed that fucker and all, but that blaze is gonna get real bad real quick guys." Charlie says as he holds one hand against the new wound on his abdomen. "It seems the fire sprinklers aren't working right. One of you better go into the supply closet and hit the manual release valve before the entire room is engulfed in flames."

You nod to Coleman to hit the valve for the sprinklers as you watch Charlie, and you watch as he nods begrudgingly and heads into the supply closet. Moments later the sprinklers kick in and the room is filled with a torrent of cool water. Most of it hits the webbing as it falls and douses the flames, causing parts of the webbing to fall to the bathroom floor as it does so. Looking up you notice the creature clinging to a support beam, burnt mostly to a crisp. Smiling, you yell for Coleman to cut off the water and join you back in the bathroom so the two of you can get Charlie back into the Bunkroom.

Coleman comes to join you a minute or so later. Taking one arm as you take the other as the two of you did before, you both lift you orderly friend and carry him into the Bunkroom, laying him on the couch next to the TV.

"Guys, we need some help here....it's Charlie.....he's been hurt." you shout as you carefully place Charlie on the couch.

OOC: Not to spoil but Charlie may live or die depending on his wounds, so if anyone wants to ask him if he knows anything they better while they can. Just a head's up. Also someone better attend to him soon or he's even more likely to die.
"Charlie man! These crazies have been all over the place! Where are all the suits at? Here, let me take a look at those... bite... stuff. It could turn skeptic."
