jjsimp: Speaking of that, what about the change of the theme song between the last two Doctors. Will there be another after the new Doctor settles into his role?
Probably. Historically they've made a new intro every couple of years. Though sometimes they keep the intro animation and just change the music.

I would honestly love an intro in the style of Tom Baker or Sylvester Mccoy, heck even Colin Baker for the next Doctor.

I'm surprised they changed it so drastically right before Smith is leaving. Lends some credence to the idea they didn't know he was bowing out until recently.

Possible, it would actually be kind of cool if they changed it (and the TARDIS console room) as a subtle hint as to change is coming. Probably not, but still fun to think they are that clever.
I'm going to miss Matt Smith, he kind of reminds me of Tim Booth circa 'Gold Mother' & 'Seven' days

It would be great if the TARDIS changed to a red colored exterior as the console is also transformed.

Red TARDIS

That would be a shake up of sorts.

They did change Tom Baker's intro in his last season, so... I dunno. I do wonder if they will just slot a new face in there or totally redo the whole thing.

I remember seeing him on some US talk show not too long ago and he seemed to be excited for the next season. I still think it wasn't his idea to leave the show.
I personally liked the theme before Tennant left a lot more. I have no experience with the themes pre-Eccleston, so I can't say if I liked them better than the Tennant version.

It's possible he was urged to leave I think. He didn't capture casual viewers like Tennant did and the BBC want to protect their show.

As for themes, McCoy's is my favorite, because god damn I love the 80's.

Minus the logo design, I think that is probably one of my favourites, third only to Tom's, and Peter/Colin's theme.

I do love the reappearance of the 'face in the nebula' in Matt Smith's most recent intro.

A little recap for those who might not have heard many versions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZ1kRxgKft4

My favourite version of the theme is definitely the original (specifically the '67 mix with the twinkly sounds and delay on the bass line).

Same here, it was nice to see some homages to classic Who intros. I was more referring to the music and whatnot though. Yeah, I always liked the showing of the face because it always showed that there was more to the Doctor than other Time Lords. Maybe I'm just looking too much into it though.
Doctor Who is a show that's always eluded me for one reason or another, I only really sat down to watch any of it properly when I got a best of tom baker video set off a friend. Dispite some cheese, I found myself far more engaged than I expected and immediately wanted to know and see more.

The I caught the last half of the new season seven and was immediately, and inextricably hooked, Matt Smith's characterization was exceptional, the full body flourishes, the playful nonchalantness... having since watched a good number of his series episodes I am really sad to see him go, I feel it's just too soon, he needed one more season, the chemistry between his doctor and Clara needs more time...

I still haven't seen any Eccleston episodes, but I did like Richard Hammond, er David Tennant's doctor, but nowhere near as much as Smith.

I don't feel ready for a new face yet, 12 sure has a lot to live up to

Just think how scary it must have been for Peter Davison (the Fifth Doctor).

Thanks for that. Will have to play this on my TV this weekend, as my laptop doesn't do it justice. Didn't realize there were so many variations during the Tennant era. Some of those early ones sounded great though.
