It’s a Steal!

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/thief_gold]THIEF™ GOLD is the definitive version of Thief: The Dark Project, the first game that introduced sound and light (or silence and shadows) as stealth gameplay mechanics, so there is no way you can sneak past this gem on GOG.com for just $9.99.

Garrett, the main protagonist in Thief trilogy, is one of the gaming’s most appealing hidden anti-heroes. Sure, he’s a thief (and a killer!), but he makes it up with sarcasm, intelligence, and rougish appeal. Thief’s surprisingly elaborate storyline throws Garret between a rock and a hard place where he needs to restore the political and magical balance of the city by using silence, stealth, and thievish skills as a weapon. The chaotic Pagans and technological Hammerites are preparing to tear the city apart in their battles with each other, and it seems that only a little judicious theft can keep these titani forces from clashing. No matter who's the employer and who's the victim, he plans to stay neutral and is always upholding his beliefs with a simple key principle: always get the loot.

In THIEF™ GOLD, you have a wide range of equipment at your disposal: a blackjack, a sword, lockpicks, holy water, explosive mines, flash bombs, and seven types of arrows to assist you on 12 treacherous missions in a steampunk-medieval metropolis called the City. The game’s FPS mechanics are a big change from then-traditional DOOMlike “shoot and run” to the unthinkable "it's quite amazing how much fun it can be to avoid action". The game received much critical acclaim (92! Metascore), with reviews ranging from “immersive gaming experience”, through “bloody good”, to the quite expected “my favorite game of all time”.

You don’t have to get your hands dirty to get THIEF™ GOLD from GOG.com’s secret stash for $9.99.

F242: Has anyone tried it on win 7 64 -
After I bought Disciples 2 gold - for second time - first on Steam and 2 days ago on GOG and it did not work on my computer I am a little bit wary.
Otherwise this would be an instant buy - even on this price ( I have Thief 1 and 2 on disks - but no matter what I did I could not get them running properly - and I am getting old and lazy to spend a night trying to get a game working)

Next stops System Shocks, please :)

brento: i'm on windows 7 64-bit, and the game crashes every single time i try and start a mission
See this: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/thief/game_killing_direct3d_error

My problem has been on XP not 7, but between the community fixes and the modified exe that (hopefully) GOG will roll into a new package, everything seems to work now for both myself and Vista/7 users.
Oh for ff... How am I supposed to get anything done when you keep releasing epicness?

I bought Disciples 2 Gold during the weekend sale and it works fine for me on Win7 x64, but I bought Sacred as well and it didn't. Seems quite a few of the windows based GoG games are hit and miss depending on type of hardware, it's age and your drivers. I hope Thief works on at least one of my systems when I get it.
It would appear that shit just got real.

Thank you so much - you spared me the 10 bucks, but more important another crash of my hopes to have back one of the games I loved so much.
Anyway - hope dies last - so if there are any confirmations that this game is playable on win 7 64 or GOG fix it then we will see
It will run. It just needs a little TLC. Fortunately, a lot of folks have been working on T1 for a long time to improve it and get it to run. Check at the forums at www.ttlg.com

System Shock 1 and 2 are probably out of the picture, sadly. Looking Glass managed to secure a very special agreement with EA on that, which makes it impossible for either ex-Looking Glass people (like Irrational Games) or EA to do anything with the franchise, since Looking Glass has been shut down. The rights for System Shock is owned by an insurance company, neither EA or Irrational Games can do anything with the franchise anymore. I can confirm I have it running on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit straight from download, with no tweaking. I have done the reg fix to get the movies back, and added the ddfix to get the resolution to 1920 x 1080, but the game itself was running fine without them...
Definitely going to get this one at some point. I haven't actually played the first game.
<3 So very very happy right now....gonna play it once I get home from the gym :D

They said the same thing about the Dungeons and Dragons licensed games (rights were split and being fought over between Hasbro and Atari, among others) and GOG was able to work out an epic deal for those. I see nothing in that "lost history" that would prevent GOG from working that same magic for the SS games.
Thanks, GOG :)

Just finished downloading it.

The game already worked on Windows 7, 64 bit before GoG released it. You just had to change a few things. Sounds like GoG fixed 2 issues that no longer have to be done manually. You will still likely want to check out DDFIX or check out the Thief forum of GoG for user recommendations on other issues, like widescreen and better hardware support (all fixable via patches that have been available for a few years). Hope this helps.
