Hear ye, all Zork lovers! On this fine day we present to you the second graphical adventure hailing from the Zork series. Let the rejoicing commence!

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/zork_nemesis_the_forbidden_lands]Zork Nemesis: The Forbidden Lands is a first-person perspective, point-and-click adventure game. It was quite different compared to its predecessor, Return to Zork. First of all, instead of showing a still image of the surrounding area, it creates a simulated 360-degree view, making it all the more immersive. Most notably, though, the setting is quite unlike any Zork game that came before Nemesis. It's much more sombre and serious, in stark contrast to the jovial, light-hearted spirit of the prequels. A sizable portion of the Zork fanbase preferred the old atmosphere and Activision heeded the call of the people, but Nemesis is, beyond doubt, a fantastic game in its own right.
Every Zork fan owes it to the series to experience a completely different approach to the classic setting.
Never played this before, but from all the positive comments here I've convinced myself to buy it :)
Woot! Wonderful - thanks GOG!

Roman5: we all have games that we love

and how is it a "Strange Love"? many other people like it as well...
I was just referring to your obvious Morrowind fandom with the varios topics you opened, the dead horse picture etc. while on the other side you mentioned the "whining" because of Zork Nemesis. It wasn't meant as an offense... I guess my message didn't get through.
This seems familiar. Did the game come with 3 CDs? I remember owning it, but I dont remember if I have ever finished it :D

Yep I just checked my copy, 3CDs and a small booklet in one of those double size cases. I'll be saving some space when I get the GOG version.

Note: I can't state categorically if you finished it or not :)

SimonG: Great Review (did you prepare that).
No, he just pieced it together from paragraphs in reviews on various other websites.

Oh no, no no no

you got it all wrong, the "Dead horse" picture is all about the interplay promo that GoG.com never has. I mentioned it so much on the forums that I think it's become somewhat of a Joke around these parts that other people like to mention to me constantly

Sweet baby snack cakes, the day I've been waiting for has arrived! WHOOPEE! No longer do I have to copy code and tweak my laptop to play the (second) best game ever! Pretty soon, we'll have the best game ever...
I just wish I had done my homework and realized this was a Myst-clone :-(

It is so much more than a "Myst clone".
One of the finest games ever! Definitely a must-buy!

Now, if we could only get our hands on THIEF and BATTLEZONE...
I believe StingingVelvet is going to be quite happy with this news. :)

I'm rather pleased about it myself, as Nemesis and Grand Inquisitor were the two graphical Zork games I wanted to play very badly when I was younger but never got a chance to. Now I will, so thank you GOG. :D
Yeah - it's unique in the Zork range in that it is quite dark and full of doom; it does not have the usual quirky humour. But it is really good atmosphere wise and worthwhile playing. The sound work in this game (from what I remember playing it years and years back) is awesome.

This was the game that made me call my wife in from the living room just to hear the sound of the fountain change from the left to the right speaker as you moved. The sound was absolutely amazing and definitely was a major contributor to the intense atmosphere of the game!
Very exciting and one step away from one of my favorite game, I'll be looking forward that one. Nemesis was one of the earlier computer games I had played. I remember playing Myst and then Are You Afraid of the Dark: The Tale of Orpheo's Curse, but I think Nemesis was the first game to really creep me out. I remember totally freaking out and some spots. Though there is some humor hidden within the game I remember some Zork Prozac pills on one of the selves in the game. ^__^
