Shivvy: IMO it's companies making games over and over they are sure will make money that has to do with why games suck nowdays(akin to many movies nowadays as well).........and also pandering to those who don't care for story as well also plays a part.
And a big reason of why they get away with that is because the game 'looks better'. Improved graphics is a feature and has taken the place of gameplay for far too much/too long imo.
never mind

CaptainGyro: so what did he need an 8800 gt for?
avatar
Shivvy: I dunno. Maybe he got it with the PC or from a friend?
No the real answer is because he is a liar and he actually cares about graphics and advancement

Oh yeah busted buddy

Like I said, I always get the best value for money card. Before my 8800GT, it was the 6600GT. I don't have to mention that the 6600GT is one the best value for money cards in Nvidia history ever. Almost comparable to the Ti-4200. 8800GT lasted me a good 2 years before it started crashing some my games and my computer.

Er no, lol no, I'm definitely not casual. I've spend most of my life other than schooling and now working, playing games.

Right... When everyone was marveling about digital cameras, I was still using film. I only bought my first digital camera last year. A good decade+ after digital starting becoming mainstream.

Shivvy: Yeah but how good of graphics can a 8800GT even get nowadays? Can't be very much.
More than whats needed for somebody who doesn't care about graphics and technological advancement, that's how much,

I am still really bored.

U realise the 8800GT is the minimum requirement for some games now right.

So essentially from launch, the 8800GT lasted only slightly more than 3 years before games caught up with it. Which is good enough for me, provided mine didn't die 1 year earlier.
Having a three-year-old video card isn't a limitation when we're still swimming in console ports, and even exclusive and PC-focussed games will run OK if you're willing to turn some settings down a bit (hey, it still looks and runs better than on either console).

I don't have any faith in Kotaku and their alleged sources nor their predictions. If Nintendo really does plan to target dedicated gamers with eighth generation-level hardware Microsoft and Sony will be forced to initiate their contingency plans. Neither can afford to miss out on maintaining their portions of that action (Sony was very late last time and it cost them dearly).

I want to see new consoles so games can stop stagnating. This is not at all about graphics; Crysis 2 suffered terribly with smaller maps and fewer destructible objects, and any open-world game has the same problems combined with the difficulty of providing an ostensibly seamless world through streaming trickery.

If a new console generation means I need to invest in new hardware then so be it; the closest thing I've had to an upgrade for this build is moving to Windows 7 64-bit.
This is fine with me because maybe we will see some more focus on the pc market again.

As for limitations of todays consoles they have pretty limited RAM like Arkose implied.

Good... meanwhile we'll have time to witness the rise of PS3 and Xbox 360 emulation. Somewhere, somehow, this will definitely happen....

I wish it would.....then I could put all my(legally purchased) games on PC and run them from there if the console ever breaks. Of course that would probably require MASSIVE system specs as AFAIK classic PS2 emulation is already pretty system intensive.
I don't think I'm going buy any new consoles now, as they really don't seem to have enough exclusives any more (and if anything is released multi-platform, I'll always buy PC).
I can't wait for the next consoles, more specifically the Microsoft one, not for purchasing it myself but one of the biggest problems we have right now, and admittedly Microsoft are working a way to make it a little better, is storage on the Discs. I read somewhere that the storage space on a Double Layered DVD for the Xbox 360 provides less space than a PS2 Disc, just because of the Xbox's Video and Security Partition.

Obviously more limited storage space means lower file sizes, meaning crappier voice files, crappier textures and the biggest problem, 6 hour games. and obviously we live in a time where all of the major developers put their games across three platforms, the one that's limiting itself causes limits for the others, limits that quite frankly, shouldn't ever apply to the PC especially now with Digital Downloads.
I wouldn't care about this so much, except that just about every developer makes games for consoles first then ports it to PC nowadays. As a side note, I can't wait to see how gimmicky the next gen of consoles will be, after Sony and Microsoft got burnt by the Wii.
