I love the visual artwork in videogames and when I play a game, I often spend a lot of time also trying to capture great photos of some of my favorite characters and locales.

My favorite feature in Steam is the screenshot: all you have to do is press F12 and it stores the screenshot on your harddrive and you can load it to your Steam Cloud in your profile.

Here are a few choice shots I have taken. Please share yours too:

These are large images to keep the resolution high. Zoom in and out by holding ctrl and using the scroll wheel if they take up too much of your screen.

Dear Esther:
There is so much detail and beauty to Dear Esther. I was happy the game didn't have any fighting or objectives because it left me free to simply explore and snap photos with a HUD free first person perspective. I love the way the moon reflects on the water. The docks have such a cold lonely feel, except for the warm light emanating from the Kinkadian hut on the other side of the water.

Bulletstorm:
For such a brutally violent game, Bulletstorm is surprisingly beautiful. This shot captures much of what I love about the environments. Craggy rocks. Glowing sunlight. Tropical plantlife. Futuristic architecture. Otherworldly atmosphere

Dead Space:
Here is a quietly foreboding shot from Dead Space as Isaac explores the disheveled remains of the starship Ishimura. I like that the environment helps tell the story. Outside the hospital, there is a sign that reads "Sorry, we are full." There is trash littered along the halls, crazed graffiti on the walls, smeared blood, a handprint...

The Witcher 2:
The Witcher 2 amazingly looks better in its gameplay than most games look in their CGI cutscenes. This is a nice action shot I captured in the harpy-infested caves outside of Vergen. While Geralt casts an Igni flame spell to push back the harpy in front of him, another harpy is swooping in to flank him from the side. I love how the Igni spell lights up hot in the middle of this otherwise dark cave that glows from shafts of light breaking through from the cave opening above.

Psychonauts:
Raz stands proud amidst the insane twisting streets and fire hydrant surveillance cams in the paraoid "Milkman Conspiracy" level.

This one might not look all that impressive, until you look at the logo that can be clearly seen. Any gamer worth his/her salt will know exactly why it made me smile
(Screenshot from Hard Reset)

Space usually look quite nice in games, X3 Terran conflict is no exception.
Trine 2 looks AMAZING

yeah that looks awesome.

This thread makes me wish I actually took pictures in game and saved them, I never really saw much reason for doing so till now

I'm not worth my salt because I don't get it. Is it the green triangle thing right around the aiming reticule?

Wow! That one's amazing. That soldier valiantly gave up his virtual life for such a perfect explosion shot. He looks like Jesus or something bathed in all that light.

I also really liked the Stalker shot with the cloud covered moon and all the craggy trees.

Are you using the 2009 Complete Mod on Stalker? I've installed it on mine and it can give you some pretty fantastic detailed textures like this.
I took a few screens playing through Rage, which might not have impressed me too much gameplay wise, but I loved art style and it looked like a lot of work went into the environments and characters.

Do you guys know any tricks for clearing your HUD when the game doesn't have an option for it? I would also love to know how to just take a free floating camera through some games if anyone has tips on that?

I sometimes swap guns in FPS games and take the shot while my character is switching weapons off screen. It feels weird to have a bunch of scenery shots where there is a big ass gun in every one of them.
Pic from Crysis and RAGE when you get captured near the beginning of the game and they have you hung upside down.

Crysis pic is taking off whe that huge thing is attacking and you make a narrow escape just before you head back to the ship for the final level, looks awesome maxxed out in 1920x1080 resolution

If you know how to work the "Super DoF" feature in Gary's Mod, you can get some pretty impressive shots.

Thanks :)

And no, it is vanilla Clear sky. If i mod original Stalker, i might never play anything else. That's not fair to my backlog.
Aw all I found are a bunch of random screenshots from WoW etc which I took because I found them interesting/funny, but none all that graphically impressive. I guess it's because my machine isn't all that amazing so I tend to turn the graphics down to low/normal.

Dragon Age example: Zhevran going ballistic - I can't help but feel that would have been a really impressive screenshot on a powerful PC.

Edit: I hate tags and dropbox autopasting url tags.
Edit 2: Also had to post this WoW screenshot I found of my imp high fiving a dead, flying, upside down rogue. I love that screenshot and the way the imp looks in it.

Does this ring a bell? It is nearly identical.
A few shots of Call of Pripyat in maximum detail settings and 1920x1080 resolution. This is also with the Call of Pripyat Complete Mod
