keeveek: Sorry man, but these questions are just simple naive and stupid.
I'm not entirely sure if these responses were directed at me or my statement was quoted by accident, but I'll go on the assumption that they were directed at me:
keeveek: First - not everybody has enough money to buy all the games he wants. Such contests are for people who can't afford the game and they have the one oportunity to get it for free, and most important, legally. People who don't give a sh... about old gaming at all, would just steal the game from torrents
keeveek: If you have enough money to buy all games you want - good for you. But understand, ffs, there are millions people who don't.
And at this point I'll reiterate the rather obvious point that someone who can afford a PC and maintain an internet connection can, by extension, afford to buy at least one game.
I understand that people on very low incomes cannot buy dozens of games each month, but many of GOG's titles provide dozens of hours of entertainment for 6 to 10 dollars.
Gaming is a luxury, not a right. If I had a computer and just ten dollars to spend with my food cupboards empty, I wouldn't in my right mind think about spending that money on games.
keeveek: Second - let me make this straight for you, because you seem to have some problems with imagination.
over 3 billion people live for less than 2.50$ a day. And 9 bucks for example is my monthly fee for internet connection. Get it?
Also, having a computer and internet connection is more important than having a game, so many people don't have money for games, because they need to eat.
Those people who barely have enough money to eat will seldom have a computer and internet connection of their own.
Consider, if you will, a country like India or Kenya. Countries with millions of people living below the poverty line. There's a good reason that internet cafés are hugely popular in those countries. Even here in Germany, there are plenty of people under the poverty line who cannot afford to eat and certainly cannot afford PCs. That's why libraries and institutions like the Arbeitsamt have internet-ready PCs for people to use.
keeveek: I'm just getting more and more aggreviated when I see comments like "6 bucks is just a happy meal!" ----> this is what makes this world so f----d up -
short sight. Hence why I was wondering whether this was directed at me...I didn't claim it was "just" a happy meal.
