ThomNG: There may be an option to create a non-Steam version of Faith in Destiny, it is now more if GOG wants to release it and if they will accept the pricing we want to have for Faith in Destiny :) but this topic is not fully closed - there are discussions behind the scenes and I am quite positive that it will come on GOG in future ;)
Good to know, I hope that a complete edition can be released.

Fenixp: Personally, I have very mixed opinion on it. As I said earlier in the thread, I really, really want to like it, but just can't. The first game is... What prevents me from really playing it is a lot of design flaws, crowned by the fact that upon loading a saved game, explored map bits conceal themselves again, so if you don't remember where did you find what, you're screwed. You only get the current POV from stuff you own at the time of loading - from characters/buildings, that is. Everything else you have to re-explore. Hated that.

Second game actually solves vast majority of similar problems that I've had with the original. That's only the technical side of the thing.

Gameplay is ... If any of those games came out as a pure RPG or a pure RTS, they would never be rated above average - you get a mediocre RPG and a mediocre RTS. If you are itching for some old-school RPGing and RTSing with everything good and bad associated with it, you'll get those in spades in these games - but even then, play an old-school RPG or an old-school RTS dedicated to the genre and it will be more entertaining.

The uniqueness of these games comes from connecting these two genres - and that's also my biggest issue with it. While it connects RTS and RPG, both RTS and RPG bits are clearly separated in gamepay - you have RPG segments, where you talk to NPCs, do quests and that kind of stuff, and then you have RTS bits, where you build up a base, construct units and the RPG aspect gets largely pushed into background (altho not completely). The game doesn't seemlessly interjoin the genres - it just kind of connects them in a functional fashion.

When it comes to story, well... You're mostly saving people in a fantasy setting
Not OP, but I was wondering- it's an RPG so I am guessing it has character building, but does that happen for a MC or multiple characters? I'd like to play a RTS with character building for a team or something, and this game seems story-oriented, so that's a plus. Thanks in adv.

IIRC you do get pernament companions who will level-up with you, but the RTS-styled units do not have any character development whatsoever.

JMich: unlike this one
Nice find. First heard of it in the near thread minutes ago. Anyone knows how much it will be ?

Edit : I like my hexes alright.

I think I relate. I like to play it but I never got into enough to finish any of those.

phaolo: Hey, do you think it's worth playing both SF games, or should I choose only the second (full)?

Niggles: Is this series any good?.

Zurvan7: Would like to know it as well? Does it have a good story or is it gameplay only?
In my opinion, the first SpellForce game is pretty bad. It's full of flaws that make it an unnecessarily arduous game to play. These are the kinds of flaws that hit you in the face every five seconds: interface, camera, mechanics. Happily, the second game, which I like a lot, does away with these for the most part. The story is nothing to write home about as far as I'm concerned, so feel free to skip the first game altogether.

The mechanics are roughly similar to Warcraft III, with armies led by a handful of powerful hero units. The tone is very different though (WCIII is very serious, whereas SF2 comes across as self-consciously camp), and there are quests and things that make it more RPG-ish than Warcraft, but it's still a very far cry from isometric RPG's.
Spellforce 2 allows you to recruit a few heroes along, with their respective personal quests. You can level the heroes., but the troops will level automatically with you. Heroes will lag 6 levels behind you at the endgame, while troops will be 10 levels below your main character.

The original Spellforce is a bit more tactical due to the rune system, Spellforce 2 is easier to play due to the fact that the RPG part is better implemented. I would not compare it with Warcraft 3, but with the Warlords Battlecry series.

Nobake: Wishlisting so I don't forget about it. Need to try the other Spellforce games I have before I purchase this one.

Impaler26: Same here. I also have the other Spellforce games and i will buy this one when i have finished them all. :)
Thirded. So many games. But glad to see this here, thanks for bringing it to GOG!

I am totally confused. I have the Spellforce Universe which is evidently SF 1 & 2 with expansions but then I see this which is seemingly an entirely different SP 2 and has a seven year release date difference.

Of course the Universe collection is so flawed I'm bound to get them all here eventually, but for the sake of what little is left of my sanity I'd like a little clarification.

Oh...good morning everyone. :D

The SpellForce Universe Edition had SpellForce 1 Platinum Edition (SpellForce 1 The Order of Dawn and its 2 addons) and SpellForce 2 Gold Edition (SpellForce 2 Shadow Wars and its first addon Dragon Storm) included.

To complete the whole SpellForce franchise, the second addon (Faith in Destiny) and third addon (Demons of the Past) of SpellForce 2 are missing in your selection.

Hope everything is clear now.

PS: Good morning to you too (although it is afternoon here in Austria ;) )

Thank you. :D
Like I said the Universe Rom was evidently put together with someone who has severe ADD so I'm going to get them here eventually even though #2 is a little heavy on my OS. Think I'll pick up #1 just for shits and giggles today since my BD is Sunday. :D

At least now I know exactly what I'm looking at. Thank you!

What the possibility of Faith in Destiny and his DLCs receiving a DRM-free release too?
