A game as ancient as feudal Japan itself.

Sword of the Samurai, a 1980s classic mix of strategy and action, where you set out to conquer the feudal Japan, is available for Windows and Mac OS X on GOG.com, for only $5.99.

In Sword of the Samurai, you will be part of the culture of feudal Japan, and you must learn to live by its rules. To succeed as a samurai, you must think like the samurai. Learn when to leave your sword in its sheath, when to draw it - and what to do with it once it’s drawn. You will fight duels, lead troops on the battlefield, and defend your family against assassins and kidnappers. If you are courageous and honorable, you may advance to become the head of your clan, and warlord of your province. If you master diplomacy and generalship, and outmaneuver your rivals, you may even become Shogun - absolute ruler of Japan. But remember that in all cultures power corrupts - and those who seek absolute power don’t always play by the rules.

There's always room for another MicroProse classic in your collection, so why don't you treat yourself to a nice digital copy of Sword of the Samurai, for only $5.99 on GOG.com!
YES ! YES ! IT'S HERE ! IT'S HERE !
Thanks for releasing another classic gem.
I've heard of this game but never played it nor seen any photos of of it until today.. The premise is interesting and it's not set in "ye olde generic middle ages", so I'm interested. Based purely on the photos, it reminds me slightly of King of Dragon Pass, for anybody that's played both, are they at all similar?

Not really . King of Dragon Pass is text-driven, this is more actiony .

EDIT: But this is almost as well-written as KoDP, and I warmly recommend it .

Mac OS not shown at gamecard page FYI ;)
Maybe a bit too old for my taste, at least for a PC game... But who knows, maybe it is worth it even today.

I was wondering whether there is a superior Amiga version out there, but apparently this game was DOS-only.
Nice release!
But I won't be buying it right now, it's a bit too classic for me and especially at that price.
I might pick it up during a sale though, for nostalgia alone.
Really liked it back in the day.
INSTABUUUUUUYYYYYY!!!

One of the best games ever made.
There aren't enough games set in Japan on GOG, so this is an instabuy for me :)

More Samurai games please!

Oh, and thank you!

No... Still worth it, even today . Trust me, I played it yesterday :P
Would love to see some of the newer Romance of the Three Kingdoms games on here. Didn't this game have a sequel or 2?

No . It was another game that was released in Europe with this exact same name :

low rated
Undoubtedly, one of the best strategy games of all time. Yet, 5$ is a bit much for a game this old.

It it was 2$ I'd have bought it already. Guess I'll have to wait until it drops, just like Covert Action.
For some reason i got this mixed up with an old arcade game LOL. Looks interesting. Oh gee a review already is up.........
