A game as ancient as feudal Japan itself.

Sword of the Samurai, a 1980s classic mix of strategy and action, where you set out to conquer the feudal Japan, is available for Windows and Mac OS X on GOG.com, for only $5.99.

In Sword of the Samurai, you will be part of the culture of feudal Japan, and you must learn to live by its rules. To succeed as a samurai, you must think like the samurai. Learn when to leave your sword in its sheath, when to draw it - and what to do with it once it’s drawn. You will fight duels, lead troops on the battlefield, and defend your family against assassins and kidnappers. If you are courageous and honorable, you may advance to become the head of your clan, and warlord of your province. If you master diplomacy and generalship, and outmaneuver your rivals, you may even become Shogun - absolute ruler of Japan. But remember that in all cultures power corrupts - and those who seek absolute power don’t always play by the rules.

There's always room for another MicroProse classic in your collection, so why don't you treat yourself to a nice digital copy of Sword of the Samurai, for only $5.99 on GOG.com!
Ancient game. I know just to honour the old times I should try it at least once but I probably never will.
Great game, shame GOG's description doesn't do it more justice, for example that while the game is quite short it has many different choices and consequences. And the historiography is pretty much perfect, everything in the game has been researched right down to the smallest things.

Don't be foolish, it's still a good game, despite it's age .
Sweet release! Was all set to buy and received it from Licurg instead, so I'm like double-happy now.

Combined with Harvester (get it? combine? harvester?), this is a top-notch release day here at GOG. Well done on the classics!
I am overjoyed right now.

I can't express with words how happy I am to finally be able to get a legit copy of this game.

Seriously, this is one of the best designed games of all time. And it's not Nostalgia speaking. Really, give it a try.

I understand some people would think $6 is too much for a game this age. If that's your case, I would suggest at least wishlisting it and wait for a sale. I assure you it's totally worth it.

Thiev: Wasn't it C64 only?

Kiddin'! :P
*but it looks kinda cool*

Yup, Usagi Yojimbo is C64/cpc/spectrum only, didn't know that...
I'll probably have to pick this up soon. Definitely interested and will certainly get the game at some point. :)
HAHA! This is awesome!
Romance of the Three Kingdoms series when?! ;P

Lol, had the exact same thought. Sadly probably not before GOG hires an extremely charismatic fella fluent in Japanese. Been dreaming of Romance of the Three Kingdoms on GOG since I acquired a physical copy of Dynasty Warriors 4 Hyper a few months ago (two games from that series were released for PC in English, another one in Chinese I think). Koei (or now Tecmo Koei) owns quite a few amazing games that were released for PC but are not available digitally anywhere. :/

For those asking, though it has been a long time since I played. The game style has a lot of similarity to Pirates in game play style, and was directly influenced by it, except no boats.

Been waiting for this one, now if we could only get the Koei games as others have mentioned.
Interesting release, another Microprose release I missed in my early days of PC Gaming, but I was addicted to Pirates! for some time so thank you for the comments on it's play being similar to Pirates. I'll definitely have to give this one a try soon.

This isn't just similar, it was designed as the spiritual successor of Pirates! , and it's better in every way too .

Negotiations with japanese companies seem to be pretty hard in general... They don't trust the gaijin or whatever...
An interesting looking title. The screenshots remind me of warband.
