Man it would be SO AMAZING if GoG could do it
Perhaps, one day. We can only dream...and eat donuts in the meantime. I love donuts.

Thanks a lot, now I'm dreaming about eating donuts.
GOG would need to solve a couple of issues to get this one up for sale.

First off, there is no publisher with distribution rights for the US. Second, getting the game to work on Windows 7 will take some work.

I expect the former one will be the biggest problem right now as there at least, some third party programs to now help with getting Sacred 2 Gold to run, although even those may not actually fix the memory leaks. As for fixing the installer so it doesn't forcefully install outdated versions of PhysX (which then requires a complete driver reinstall) and OpenAL, I expect GOG would be able to accomplish that.

It's also worth noting that multiplayer is no longer officially supported and the servers were shut down at the end of March this year.

It won't run on windows 7? are you sure? The game is not that old.

Many games that aren't that old won't run on Windows 7. Usually because the programmers did something that Windows 7 doesn't allow anymore, and the games never received a patch to fix the issues.

According this thread on the Steam forums (see post #2), it's not that hard at all to get the game to run on Win 7. A compatibility setting and a couple of shortcut flags and you're good to go.

Absolutely. I speak from experience of installing it and tracking down the issues. Some of the later patches for the expansion (which has no US publisher) did help to fix this, but didn't fix it completely. So without command line options and modifying the ini files, the game is prone to random crashing and major memory leaks.

Compatibility mode doesn't always work (certainly didn't for me). But with a lot more work it is fully possible to play without that.

According to that thread, it isn't just the compatibility setting, which probably actually does nothing (it usually doesn't), there are also two shortcut flags that need to be set, "-nocpubinding" and "-skipopenal". I tend to think those are much more important and helpful.

Once you get the game installed, -nocpubinding should be the only one you need (and there's now a third party program to do that for you; it also informs you of the exact version of S2 you have installed*). -skipopenal is only needed if you can't be bothered to reinstall OpenAL once the initial installation buggers it up. And compared to uninstalling the PhysX and reinstalling the newest version, reinstalling OpenAL can be done in your sleep.

But even after that, you're still likely to experience a large number of memory leaks if you don't find the right values to put in the ini files. For that matter if you have the Gold edition, there's the difficulty with activating the expansion too - which pops up an activation window only once the game is launched. Problem is, that window pops up *behind* the game window and you may have to crash the game in order to see it (Alt+tabbing, etc., don't always work). At least that issue should never present itself if GOG sold the pack =)

* Which is important if you want to navigate through the patches for different versions to find the patches that will actually work with your specific version.

many?!? best be joking. from the hundreds of games i've had on my W7 system, only a small handful caused problems, and they were all old W95 or W98 titles.

I'm not saying you are wrong (because I have no idea) but how do you know it's a win 7 issue and not some other hardware or software issue? Especially since others can run it
Sod's law dictates that Sacred 2 Gold is not rare at all in Germany, but the German version is only playable in German.

(Funnily enough, years ago when I was still living in NRW, I used to drive past Ascaron's offices in Gütersloh every day for four years to get to work. A shame they went belly up).

Pretty much this. The vast majority of compatibility problems under Windows 7 that I've encountered have been related to the lack of 16-bit subsystem under 64-bit, to legacy graphics card issues, to the PC having too much memory or to the CPU being too fast - all of which will generally concern Win95/98 games.

I still have Sacred 2 on my shelf waiting to be played, I'm not sure if I'll have any luck with it on my PC, but I have very few post-2003 games that don't work on my present PC.
