So, I bought this Tom Clancy Collection thing that came with a bunch of games, almost all of which use Tages, and it simply won't work. Their http activation link is dead, I get silly errors when I use their server activation thingy, and it looks like I'm not going to be able to sort it out without help from GG support, which will take forever if my past experiences with them is anything to go by.

Simple solution: I'm never buying anything with this crappy DRM again. Ever. Other games with other DRMs I've gotten from them have been fine. but this is just crap.

For reference, the problem I'm having is identicle to these people, even though it's a different game. The only way they got it solved was by contacting the publisher, which is ridiculous and again, would take forever.

I've never had a game from GOG that I couldn't get to work, though it seems I now have several from GG. Lesson learned.

Rip it out with a crack from gamecopyworld. Their site is virus free(the files are anyways, from my experience) and can help if you legally own a game and copy protection is giving you trouble with the games in question.

Thanks for the advice, but if I want cracked games, the markets here have every game you can think of for 5000 Riel (about $1.25) each.'

Still, if I really can't get it to work, then I guess I'll try your suggestion.

Yes but buying from them crack sellers doesn't give any money to the devs. Buying legal does, and you can crack it yourself later on.

All a crack does is strip out the drm, and if in doubt you can scan the file through any number of scanners.

But the point is, I'd rather the devs know what a piece of crap I think their DRM is.

Anyways, now trying to find a solution through gamecopyworld, but can't seem to find anything that doesn't involve redownloading the entire game, which took me like 2 days (and a quarter of my monthly data usage). Sorry to ask, but could you help point me in the right direction? The game I'm trying with at the moment is Rainbow Six Vegas. Cheers.

I'm talking about games you bought without knowing if there was DRM or not. Obviously don't buy if you dislike the DRM used, but if you purchased without looking then there is a simple solution, is all i'm saying.

Also sorry but yeah you'd need the game downloaded again to use the cracks. :(

When you do get it downloaded again if ever, patch it up using the patches/game updates on this page:

R6 Vegas

(Install game then 1.01patch through 1.06 patch.)

Then use the crack labelled Rainbow Six: Vegas v1.06 (v1.06.215) [MULTI5] No-DVD/Fixed EXE posted on 23-10-2007 by Hatred, by replacing the appropriate file in the game's directory(After backing up the file you're about to overwrite of course.)

Point taken, and thanks again. Any idea if there's a way of me doing this without having to redownload the whole game?

Read above....sadly you'd need the game again. If you know a place with free internet take a memory stick there and download the game files again, and bring em home to install/patch/crack.
If you buy a game that has DRM that makes it unusable, that doesn't entitle you to a different copy of the game. Downloading a crack of the game only supports the goddamn pirates who produced that crack.

The only thing you can do without becoming a pirate yourself is use some technical means to remove the DRM from the copy that has it. That's where GameRager's advice to patch the game using a known patch or other method of defeating the DRM comes in.

Had the same problem with Stalker Call of Pripyat through Impulse. The Tages DRM would not activate the game. Impulse was nice enough to give me a refund and I bought Steam version without the Tages. I will never buy another game with Tages again in my life.

Without those cracks we wouldn't have some of the workaround used by gog now would we? :\

Also he isn't downloading a different copy of the game but just wanting to get the DRM out of his copy.

Well, I got about $100 worth of stuff from GG yesterday, and by the looks of it, a fair chunk of the games I got use this crappy DRM. I was careful to make sure I didn't get anything that needed Steam or Origin, but all the other DRMs I've had so far were OK.

Guess at least now I know for next time. And no, I'm not going to redownload the entire game. It would take literally a week on one of the "free" connections in town, and I'm not going to waste another 5gb of my data usage allowance thingy on cracking a game that I already bought and downloaded.

Well, by definition, removing DRM is still piracy, even if I already bought the game.

In other news, GG have finally agreed that giving me a refund for an online game I got off them 3 weeks ago that isn't online and hasn't been for the last 2 years as it doesn't have servers anymore "may be the best solution".

Removing DRM just for the purpose of making software usable, when the DRM is no longer supported, is a narrow and specific exception, at least in the US. It's the "dongle rule". (There are a few other exceptions, such as reverse engineering and jailbreaking smartphones.)

It's still illegal for others to distribute DRM-removing devices, even if they're for one of the allowed exceptions.

I'm genuinely curious what kind of "support" you give pirates by downloading a crack? Do you give them money? Make the famous? I think you're overreacting a bit. There's no difference between MM getting an exe crack or a full game crack. He already supported the devs (support which apparently was undeserved) and that's that.
I've had issues with Tages before... like games not working right. This is the official site to remove tages. I hope it works for you.
http://www.tagesprotection.com/main.htm?page=minimum.htm

Also did a search and came up with deleting the system files named atjsgt.sys and linsgt.sys and run a reg cleaner to remove what's left of it.
