So, the general gist of this type of thing is, what, help us pay to make a new game? What does the person who contributes get? Aside from the game, that is. I mean, it's great if you have 10,000 or more to throw at a GAME, but... why would anyone want to pay more than what the game would cost?

I know, I know; "If they don't get enough money it can't be made!" But to be honest, this whole approach just doesn't do much for me. Now, if I am an investor and I get a percentage, that makes more sense...

I'm a bit curious about this as well, but for a different reason... all of these backers are going to get the game, or at least most of them are. So that's a large amount of "lost sales" right off the bat. I'm afraid that the sales numbers will be lower on account of that, and I worry that it'll mean that this sort of thing isn't really financially feasible after all. Ordinarily a group would have two sets of funding, from customers and from investors, but for this sort of thing, the customers ARE the investors, so there's a lot less money to go around.
If the final game receives enough exposure, is marketed well, and is released on GOG and Steam, then I’m sure it will be VERY profitable, because it’s going to be an excellent game. Chris Jones and Aaron Conners have never made a bad Tex Murphy game, only extremely outstanding ones.

Waiting 14 years for a resolution to a cliffhanger could do that to you... (well technically 11 years, since the Radio Theater filled a small gap) but still...

Trilaan: I was the 2nd person to pledge $10,000 to this project. I would have been the first but I didn't know it had started yet. I'm still willing to do more, in fact.

SirPrimalform: HOW CAN ANYONE HAVE THAT MUCH MONEY?
They are some pretty awesome rewards at $10,000 though.

Are you gonna pick a walk on role or a Chris Jones murder mystery. (You think you'd get both for $10K !)

I stand corrected! :D
If I were $10000 richer, I would be the first Azn to cosplay as Tex Murphy.

Btw I just saw the thread on Adventure Gamers. Some ignorant people seem to think that the anti-DRM crowd is the cause of the slow pledging, or that we're just out to arrest the KS progress. Unfortunately I lost my username, and for some reason registration is disabled, so I can't kindly inform these people about what's going on right now, so that they stop blaming the wrong people, and, like what many of the "anti-DRM brigade" is doing right now, concentrate on spreading the word.

If anything, vocal members like SirPrimalForm may just have helped the KS by reinforcing the fact that the end product will not be shipped with DRM. We do not know whether it would have been shipped with mandatory Steam, or online activation, but we do know after lobbying against DRM that it, for sure, won't have it. Not sure how this damages the KS at all. Slow down pledges on Day 2, probably, but in the long run it's good for both BFG and the backers that through people's voicing out, we finally get solid, substantial confirmation.

Ugh I didn't mean to deviate from the topic again.

I know how Ya feel, I wanted to bite at the time, but all that came out was this (stolen from that same forum btw). Decided it just wasn't worth it (Kickstarter threads are just overly critique-sensitive).

They're doing a "relaunch"/redesign of the site soon, so that's why the registration and comments are disabled for now.

I don't even know how that make any sense at all..

Those who don't mind about DRM, will pledge if it has DRM or not.
People who do care, will only pledge if it does not.

I think the group of people who will only pledge if it has DRM is rather small...

Now I know how JudasIscariot feels when he fails to catch me before I edit my post :P
I pledged 3$, well it's not much but I spend too much on games in last month :-/. I hope they will reach the Goal, I didn't play Tex Murphy yet. However I bought it from GOG in promo, and it seems like a great adventure with awesome atmosphere. They putted a lot of effort into the video which is on kickstarter. I believe when this would be released it would be DRM Free, and if not, nevermind. We need this game !

You ... haven't played it?

*steeples hands and leans forward*

Gentlemen, we have a non-conformist here. I'm sure you know ... *walks out dramatically* ... what to do.
