I'm excited, who do not want to explore a talking (mysterious) cave?

Err shouldn't they be working on DFA at this point? The world gave them 3.3mil for that .....
DFA is Scafer's game. This is Gilbert's game.

This is Gilbert's baby. I do not see any mention of Tim Schafer, so he is probably busy spending those millions (crack and hookers?)

(insert ex-girlfriend jokes here)
Kotaku calls it a mix between Manic Mansion and Metroidvania. They also have a short gameplay video, it looks good. SEGA seems to be the publisher?

Hmm I thought Tim said Mr Gilbert (plus the rest of the DF team) were all working on DFA ....

Although in retrospect given the last updates from the backer forums Tim's still working on storyboarding the game etc etc - guess the rest dont' have much to do till he's done ;)

Nevermind me lalalalala - Yay Ron Gilbert game!
DFA was planned to be made by a 3-man team in a short timespan (6-9 months I think). They have more resources thanks to the higher than expected budget but this is definitely not enough to keep everyone busy at Double Fine.
Too bad RPS gets the reveal. They have a habit of jumping to conclusions far too early.

Still, glad to see that Ron's back with us. His humour, if anything, is worth every penny.

Gilbert's been working on this from way before the DFA kickstarter started.

Well bugger. If there's a big publisher involved, you can be sure there's going to be DRM of some kind. I guess it'll be a while before I get to play this.

It is not stated anywhere, but if you play the video on Kotaku it shows a SEGA logo at the start. The only involvement I can see for SEGA in this is as publisher.

Edit: Yes, from PCWorld (http://www.pcworld.com/article/256141/double_fine_reveals_new_adventure_game_the_cave.html):

"During our Q&A Gilbert claimed his team has been working on The Cave for about a year; the game will be published by SEGA and is expected to release in early 2013 on Xbox Live, the PlayStation Network and the PC (presumably via Steam)."

Hmm just watched the reveal trailer... I'm underwhelmed. I have already played Trine so I wonder what'll be new in this?
I like Schafer and Gilbert and I wish them much success with all their games, but it makes me sad that they are either still forced to let publishers dictate the rules or just don't care enough about customers like myself. By now I might have bought all of their more recent games, if there was an option to buy them for PC, e.g. from their website or shops like Desura, Humble Store and GOG. I'm not that interested in renting them, least of all for the full price. I don't consider myself a Steam hater, I can see why many people like it and I'm fine with that and don't want to open up another flamewar (please don't). It's just that I wish more developers would realize that even if Steam might be the greatest thing ever for some, or even a majority, it still isn't for each and every customer, and more choice could actually lead to more sales.

I guess I have to be thankful that I'll at least be able to enjoy DFA. That's something already. So hurray for DFA and Kickstarter convincing the devs to trust gamers for a change. :)
