morciu: The only things I bought this Christmas was a gift of Sanitarium and a copy of XIII
Heresy!
Well... so far I got 30 games from the Christmas sale and there are still six games on my wishlist that I will acquire before the end. I will just wait a bit longer because perhaps somebody would like to trade for 75% discount. So... most probably I will end up with 36 new games... I must be crazy ;)
If your massive purchases bothers you that much just limit yourself on what you buy from the sales going forward.

I used to go buy a crap ton of games and it got to the point where I had something like 100 games unplayed. I started limiting myself and I've gotten the list down to about 20 or so. This entire sale season I bought Legend of Fae for a friend from Steam, The Last Remnant from GG, Gray Matter for free w/ Blue Coins (finished already), and Darksiders 2 from Amazon.

Starmaker: 2010 and 2011 sales. In 2010, I bought every game that looked interesting, and in 2011, I bought everything else. Now sales are boring. I guess, serves me right.
Yikes! You mean you actually have to play the games you already own now, for lack of interesting sales? *shivers* Can't imagine how that's like, although I fear I'm getting there soon, too. ;)
Correction to this statement! 39. Crazier. Enough said.

You don't hace to play, you can watch them rest peacefuly on their shelves. :)

StingingVelvet: In short we're all stupid addicts.
I think you hit the bull's eye. I told myself there was nothing I really wanted that badly and I'd only buy games from my 'not-really-a-wishlist-but-more-of-a-would-be-interested-in-list' if they showed up at huge discounts.

Heh, who was I trying to fool? I still ended up buying about a dozen games. It's pathetic, really. I comfort myself by looking at it like Orcishgamer does: I'm not spending money I can't afford, and the massive catalog of unplayed games just means I have a wide range of choice when it comes time to choose a new title to play.

See? It's not an addiction, really. It's kind of like having an emergency supply kit in case of disaster. Amirite?

P1na: Sometimes it takes a while.

But more to the point, there's no such thing as too many games!!
So true, especially if you own GOG games! :) I didn't buy many games in this sale, yet I know that I will eventually buy many games from GOG (when I have enough time & money); whether it's after a month, a year or whatever, I really don't care. I know one thing for sure: Good old games do not age!

And I can give it up anytime I wish, it's just I don't want to. But I can totally do it! Amirite? ;)

Ah, you understand! I'll use your post as proof that 'addiction' is far too strong a word... :P

Agreed...and as others have said...just play them at your pace. And maybe don't buy anymore unless you REALLY want to play them asap ^^
You're in no rush to play the games, good games will stay good even after several months, even after several years (hell i still play deus ex and master of orion II very often).

But of course I understand! The question is how should we call ourselves? Gamers Anonymous is not suitable because it's not only about playing but buying games. So... How about Games Purchaser Anonymous

Ghorpm: So... How about Games Purchaser Anonymous
But... that makes it sound like there's a problem. And we all know there's not. Right? Right, guys? Anyway, I vote we just call ourselves 'enthusiastic game connoisseurs' and leave it at that. Cuz there are no problems here at all. None whatsoever. No siree, Bob. Not at all.

None.

:)
Yes, I've purchased a lot of games, but my wishlist is now significantly smaller, and I'm set for the next decade. I'm just glad I had saved up and had planned to spend around this much.

Problem? What kind of problem? No, no, no. You, my dear sir, misunderstood my idea. First of all we've already agreed that we don't have a single problem. Second - even if we did (and we don't!) we would be able to stop it anytime. And third - the word Anonymous refers to the fact that we don't actually know each other - we see our nicknames, avatars but still we are quite anonymous to each other. And that's all. Nothing to worry about. Nothing at all! ;)
