Nice list..

definately agree with most of the choices!
There was a game I played on the C64 that was really different and way ahead of its time - Neuromancer, based of the William Gibson book, that might have made it on - anyone remember that?

Actually it says that that there was a DOS version and it was Interplay so maybe we can hope it might turn up
Also just noticed that 'I Have no Mouth and i Must Scream' isn't on the list...
just to state, my all time favourite :)

Yes it is at #69.

Stacking is coming to Steam in March.

Also, a lot of the games that people were disappointed not to have made the list were still in the "You might also like" section for each spot on the list. So that is kind of like honorable mentions.

The most disappointing thing is how few of the titles that could be on GOG are. I'm hoping GOG will use this list as a guide when getting new adventure games!!

You could link that text based Zork anthology to 'Infocom text Adventures' it would be sort of right!

Never played those, but AFAIK there were more than ZORK text adventures

Speaking about Portal games, I never played those, but I know ppl consider them as very good games, so I wouldn't be against listing them. But I think that those games should be removed from the list, if such classics as Zak McKraken, or Little Big Adventure are not included. Same for Alone in the Dark.

From my personal best adventure games ever it's missing Dune and Inherit the Earth.
It seems they wanted to make a list which fits all subgenres and systems. Personally I also don't count some of the puzzle games as adventure, as example the portal games and the Nintendo DS games. Btw gog is doing fine especially from the top games there are only the valve (portal) and lucasarts games missing. Also you need to substract the console games. But you can also see that there are some already possible games (Sierra/Activison; Myst-series?) in that list.

Edit: Missing and not yet mentioned games: From the classics so far the ripper and from newer games the secret files series. But that's are just my two cents, best-of lists are always disputable and only good to find unknown games. I really liked they gave a good overview about each game.

Neat, Ghost Trick is on there.

I would have liked to see 999 on there as well, but GT is good enough.

Oh absolutely, but the contents of the anthology is part of the broard and vauge 'Infocom text Adventures' entry so would still be a relevent link for people looking for what that ment and was about - maybe you'd have to include a note or asterisked footnote to explain that there are many other Infocom text adventures in existance!
Also the Anthology randomly includes Stationfall but not Planetfall (or is it the other way around) what's THAT about?

Interestingly the first game on the list that GOG doesn't have (starting at no1 and working backwards) that isn't Lucus Arts or Vavle is 'Machinarium' which is from 2009 and an indie, GOG is yet to release anything that new (non CD Projekt that is) and doesn't do Indies, this is at no 17...

...Then its Blade Running at 21, which is EA but may have fallen foul of the film licensing rights expiring, sadly, I really like Blade Runner!

Seems like I have a lot of work to do. I imagine The Longest Journey will be the next game I play... or Machinarium. I already have that one downloaded on Steam.
Even though I am a Monkey Island fan I have to say that Grim Fandango's first position is well deserved, I remember playing it some years ago and I was impressed with its style and humor. Sadly I wasn't able to complete the game due to a problem on my computer, I should start it again one of these days.

Happy to see The Longest Journey so highly ranked, I have it on GOG and I think it will be one of the next games I'll play!
