Virama: Pretty much this. It was a clickfest, nuff said. Pretty as hell though.

hedwards: I should load it up again, but I think one of the problems was that I played an an Alchemist and there were those abilities which basically did the fighting for me, making it that much less interesting to play. Sort of like Diablo as a Necromancer except without the need for killing anything first..
Did you get death laser? You don't even need pets then, you can mow down everything onscreen and quite a bit more than you'd expect offscreen.
I'm one of those people who didn't enjoy Torchlight. It was repetitive, it felt like I didn't gain anything from doing quests (well, I did, but as a person) and it felt like I just had to do a few attacks and everyone was already dead. A thousand times. And there was so many pieces of armor and weapons and I couldn't really differentiate what was better with all the stats. The game made me awfully tired and cranky for some reason.

But I must say that everything looked awfully nice. If you're in to action, Torchlight should be something to test. I could stare for hours at the graphics, but the gameplay... nuh.

I'm not saying it's a bad game, but it just wasn't the game for me. I've played Diablo and enjoyed that more.

I forget what the skill was, it;s been awhile, but it allowed me to cast towers that fought for me IIRC.

There was one that just shot a beam of death straight out, but you could sweep it 360 degrees, basically like a 400 foot light saber, the Alchemist was pretty much unfair/boring no matter how you played him.
Let's see... Fate got me interested. Fate: Undiscovered Realms still got me interested, although my interest was somewhat dwindling by the middle of the game. Fate: The Traitor Soul got me bored to tears. But Torchlight get me interested back. I just hope that Torchlight 2 won't get me bored again.

If only Torchlight was a bit more steampunky, it would be better (for me at least).

TL2 will have co-op, that's nearly guaranteed to extend it's appeal a good long while if it manages to not completely blow.
It is basically Diablo2 with better graphics and an inferior story.
I really wanted to like it, but it was just too boring. I got to the point where I would say, "Do I really want to play this? OK, let's give it another try..." and then once I got the game fired up I would say "ugh, maybe not" and quit.

I also really hated the way the popup minimap would obscure the game. In its default location in the corner, the minimap was too small to be useful. If you made it bigger so you could see what was going on, I think it was translucent (so you could see through the map) but now you can't see where your guys are walking. Or something annoying like that. I was going to start the game to see what's up with the map, but I see I deleted it already. Oh well.

Ah, I just checked my notes. (You do keep notes on all the games you play, right?) What bugged me about the popup automap being translucent is that the background (under the map, the gameworld graphics itself) and the translucent map (in the popup) would blend together, making it very difficult (for me) to distinguish one from the other.

Why use the automap? Because the viewpoint is too close to the characters. I constantly wanted to use the scrollwheel to pull waaaaay back to get a much bigger picture of the gameworld. I got really tired of my viewpoint being too close to the action, not knowing which way to turn at a junction, pulling up the automap but it's all mushed-up with the graphics of the gameworld, etc...

But it had nice cartoony graphics... like an episode of Jimmy Neutron!

The End

Well, the story is almost non-existent from Fate to Torchlight.

I just remember why Torchlight got me interested again: I did not play it hack and slash style, but pure summoning. I played as The Alchemist. I summoned two different types of robots and lots of imps. It was fun :-)
would have been nice, if there was a co op mode or multiplayer, they are trying out mods to make it but i dont think it will happen
I decided to give Torchlight a try, as it's in sale in Gamersgate. It sounds like it might go either way with this one.
game is also available on sale at direct2drive for £7.50 right now

Taleroth: I hate Diablo, both of them
Sir, you shall burn in Hell with the Lord of Terror himself as the companion for your eternal suffering.....
