This is a forum for gog, set up to discuss their games and games in general, not a anti-DRM forum.

To follow your analogy you go into a pet forum and the people who like dogs get constantly bashed by those who like cats, god forbid those who like both or actually prefer goldfish or tarantulas...

timppu: That doesn't mean those clashes should be actively triggered, from either side. But if someone really feels certain hot topics should be curbed, then maybe sometimes the best way to avoid them is to curb other controversial topics that usually seem to trigger them?
Well, yes, sure. I just don't think your phrasing was very fortunate here, because the behaviour you're describing for the other party can also be broadly summarised as "tolerance".

I think the key problem is that I genuinely do not consider this an anti-DRM forum, but a general gaming forum with a marked preference for older games. And while I consider myself fairly tolerant, I honestly cannot stand the extremism which is sometimes on display here, and which is almost inevitably of the anti-DRM camp. (By which I mean I don't think there is a single one of the fabled "no Steam = no sale" retards frequenting this forum, which is something I cannot say about the other side.)

I don't think I've seen many examples of trolling, in the original sense of the word, on this forum for quite some time, actually.

EDIT: I see amok basically ninja'd me there. That's what I get for being verbose.

I think it's time.

Gregori, start up the storm-engine, don't let anyone see you, lest you'll die a horrible death. Zoe, Peter - you come with me. I need you to position yourself around the grave and wait for a lightning to strike. Then you will cut your wrists and jump into the grave to lie with the corpse. I know I'm asking you for your lives, but this... This is more important than you and me. You very well know I would do it myself if I were mortal. I thought we will never need the abomination again. But now... Now it's time for the general bashing thread to rise again, for people in despair need a place to link evil to. So let us get to work, my minions. Bright future awaits.

DRM-free seems to be one of the key factors of GOG. At least they never fail to mention it when they are interviewed for some article.

That would be a good comparison if GOG was selling both cats and dogs, but they are selling only cats, and never fail to mention in interviews how they feel cats are a better idea than dogs. They even make some Youtube ad where they state this.

True, there will be people in the forum also who may have both cats and dogs, and they'd probably like to discuss about dogs there too. And that is obviously allowed and possibly they'd like to keep the trolling level down on each side. I also think this is fine, I personally wouldn't want to see anyone restricting the discussion only to GOG, or DRM-free, games.

Still, one shouldn't be overly surprised if he encounters some anti-dog sentiments in the forum every now and then, especially in discussions about dog sites having better promo discounts. :)

If you are going to edit the thread title, may I suggest "Trolls, spammers and poopy heads"?

If you want this analogy to work to at least some extent, please drop the dogs, because they make no sense there. Let's call DRM-free games non-neutered cats and DRMed neutered.

(Which is actually a pretty neat terminology, now that I think of it.)

Neobr10: Not to mention that GOG selling RCT3 for 20 dollars is fine, a great deal, but Steam selling it for the same price "THEYRE RIPPING US OFF, DAMN VALVE GREEDY BASTARDS".
This actually brings us to a whole different problem. 80% people complain about something, they are complaining about the wrong company. Prices, regional restrictions, DRM is all decided by the publisher. Neither GOG/Steam/Origin or GG (Unless Valve/EA are pubs) can do anything about that, ones the deal is signed. They can negotiate towards a better deal, but that's about all they can do.

That often leads to a catch 22.

GOG not selling RCT 3 ---> people complain

GOG selling RCT 3 for 20$ ---> people complain

Here (and pretty much everywhere) people just like to bitch about DRM/Steam/GOG/Fanboys because that is always the easy and fast solution to their problem. My game isn't working? DRM broke it. It's from GOG? They fscked up. It works for 90% of the users? They didn't test it properly. GOG is regional pricing TW2? Traitors!

If people would just sit back for a few minutes and actually think further than their nose, a lot of complaining could be either redirected or avoided.

gameon: Lol, you found something i didn't (the personal attack) but i still managed to find something you didn't. By the way, for some reason the web link is still: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/general/trolls_spammers_and_shits
Known limitation of the forum software, while it is possible to change the url of a thread as well, it does take more effort, and I'm not sure if TET can do it himself, or if he has to go bother the "techies".

Why not?

But if you want to change the argument to "discussion of neutered cats in a site which is overall against neutering of cats, even making Youtube videos about it", fine. I don't see how that really changes the argument. If someone wants to talk about neutered cats, or neutering of cats, in such a site, he shouldn't be overly surprised if there is some negative feedback every now and then.

Another cover up and friendly warning by Enigmatic, pity him. I guess thread starter and subsequent posters need to have some responsibility too. I believe most people here are mature enough to engage in conversation without breaking the forum ethics.

Good advice but holding in one's anger can lead to it being loosed(sometimes unintentionally) on others for the slightest of slights or even no real reason at all. Some venting can actually be healthy for one's own mental/etc well being.
TheEnigmaticT, since you are here

can you please remove DRM from GOG forums? I hate the fact you have to stay online to post here, and to have some account.

Please, let GOG forums be DRM-free.
