Dungeon Keeper 2, now with fully supported hardware acceleration.

At GOG.com we try to treat our games like our children--with care, tolerance, love and understanding. If they’re not ready and prepared, we don’t release them. When we see they’re doing great on modern systems, we pack them with some extra goodies to keep them warm and safe, and send them out to the homes of the best people we could ever find--you, gamers, GOGers!

And we never forget about our games, oh no! Every once in a while, one of our testers checks how our releases are doing and then we can contact you and say: “It’s a dangerous world out there. This patch, update, soundtrack, and artbook might help you.”

Today, we’re extremely happy to tell you that within minutes you will be able to play the best, the fastest, and the most reliable version of Dungeon Keeper 2 out there, all thanks to a small patch, named 'Hardware acceleration fix', that can be downloaded from your ‘My Account’ section. Play Dungeon Keeper with hardware acceleration and 1024x768 resolution (fully supported on ATI and NVIDIA cards) as it’s supposed to be played--slick, smooth, and super-cool.

In addition to that, we’ve added some great extras to The Witcher and The Witcher 2:
- new print-ready HD version of the TW2EE artbook--that’s 332 MB of the pure awesomeness
- seven “Behind the Scenes” videos for The Witcher
- 14 video interviews with the creators of The Witcher
- metal music video advertising The Witcher

Download the Dungeon Keeper 2 patch and awesome extras for the Witcher games from your ‘My Account’ page. We also recommend using our GOG.com Downloader.

JMich: Nice, finally a news post about updated games...
+1
Excellent. I've had DK2 installed for a while now but it's been hard to keep running, had to abandon it.

Hopefully with Australia now having an R18 rating for games, some day in the near future there'll be an update announcement for our version of The Witcher 2 to remove the cut content.

danowar: Most important question for the update is: Will DK2 work on Windows 7 now?

(Judging by the user reviews for DK2, the game seems crash-prone on the system...
Yes, it will. :)

Edit: Although to be fair I didn't have any problems running it before, as long as I ran it at low resolution and kept hardware acceleration off.

GOG FTW! Keep up good work, so far you've got the best service in digital distribution!
Awesome! Give me a G! Give me an O! Give me ... um why won't anyone else join in?
Great work GOG! Can't wait to install Dungeon Keeper 2 again :).
I approve of this BIG TIME!

I've been running it without crashes in Win7, even before this patch. I got an impression from some other messages that running it on 1024x768 instead of 800x600 resolution might have made it more crash-prone for some people. I wouldn't know, because I always ran it at 800x600. Neither do I know if that is still a problem.

If you had an ATI/AMD graphics card (like I do), you would hit a "black screen bug" if you enabled 3D acceleration. Earlier GOG issued a "safemode patch" which in these cases would run in software mode, but look almost as good as 3D accelerated (smoothed out textures etc.). At that point I personally stopped caring about trying to get the 3D acceleration to work on ATI cards.

Nice to see continued support though, it would be nice to know how they fixed this.

Thank you GOG for listening to your Community, even if it took like a year for you guys to finally get it done

My guess is magic...

SimonG: Great, what GOG can I use now to tease GOG about their after release support?
Interstate 76? Have they fixed that?

Gorky17 still fails to run 3D accelerated in Win7. Oh noes!

I personally don't care in that case (either), the visual difference is so small because the game is not fully polygonal 3D anyway, only the smallish characters on the screen. Like Resident Evil, 3D objects on 2D bitmap background.

And then there's always the Interstate '76, I presume it still has problems too? I don't have the GOG version so I don't know.

So is the dungeon keeper 2 patch only for problems with newer OS, or is it relevant to my Xp pc?

You can still use it if you want. It fixes crashes at 1024x768, ATI black screen issues with hardware acceleration, fps issues on the main menu and black screens after alt tab. If you don't have any of those problems, then there's not as much advantage to using it, but it should still work.
