We know our little game with closing down the site made some of you angry. Once again we'd like to apologize to everyone who felt deceived by us closing down GOG.com without any warning and without giving you access to your games. We apologize for that from the bottom of our hearts, it was done with the best of intentions and hopefully we can make it up to you!
That being said we'd like to introduce to you the brand new GOG.com. After two years we're finally leaving the beta stage and moving forward to provide you even better service with your favorite PC classics. Leaving beta means lots of changes to the site itself, as well. A sleek new design makes it even easier to browse through the huge catalog, share one's passion for classic games via popular social media, get to know more about the classic games available and recommend favorite titles to other gamers. Among other changes, the team has introduced GOGmixes, which are, in short, user-created lists of games around one theme. Learn more about all the new features on GOG.com overview page.
But that's not all. What anniversary would it be without some neat presents? We're celebrating the second anniversary with one of the biggest announcements ever for fans of classic PC games - we're reviving Baldur’s Gate and other classic Hasbro-Licensed PC games which will be unveiled gradually in the coming weeks!

Please let us know when you finish fixing the scroll bar for game downloads. I would like to finish downloading all parts of the game I paid for prior to this stunt of yours. I'm frustrated with this new site with its many bugs. And yes, I'm still mad about the prank.

lackoo1111: Please fire the PR guy .
avatar
zugu: The "monks" video is appaling, you should fire your PR people.
avatar
Sheez: That said, screw your PR department.
PR guy/people/department ? They need to HAVE them first ;P.
avatar
Mockduck: willing to deny people the ability to play the games they've purchased for promotional reasons
They needed to shut the site down because of the overhaul ANYWAY. It's not like they deliberately went offline just to annoy people - they simply tried to make the best use of the downtime they could.

Stupidest goddamn pr stunt ever -- what the fuck were you thinking?

Even though I thought it was probabloy a stunt, it still made me very angry. I have been one of your biggest promoters and I'm not sure I will continue to recommend you now. May take awhile to heal...I don't want friends blaming me for stupid shit like this.

Stupid, stupid, stupid! You never want to damage trust with your customers. Which you have.

Such a shame, too, because you are a beacon of hope for the PC gaming world.

Shame on you GOG!

(P.S. And your stupid apology video didn't help either.)
It's simply amazing how much people can whine about a little more than half a week of downtime...

Unfortunately, the brand new GOG.com forum is very buggy:( I tried like 5 times to reply to a thread and my post didn't appear.

The old forum only had issues with editing posts with nested quotes. This one just won't let us post.
For those shouting about how they'll go "download from other sites", I'll just sit here and laugh. You think those are legitimate distributions? No, especially now that publishers have a vested interest in protecting those IPs again.

While I'm upset about the shutdown as well, it's not a big enough deal to tell the staff to **** off, yell about how you should get something free or whatever. They didn't shoot your dog.

stupid stunt followed by childish antics and insincere apologies. the "new" website looks just like the old one; hope you didn't spend more than a few hours on that part!

all this to release one game I could care less about. I'll probably still buy from time to time but have certainly lost respect for GOG.
welcome back gog and hope you say here for a long long time.
One feature I really expect to see is an easy way to delete an account. Honestly, what I'm now going to do is DL all my games and never, ever buy anything here. I'm also going to discourage anyone I will know of, who will ever have the idea of buying games from gog.com. You've made yourself a lot of bad press, and it takes more than releasing Baldur's Gate to fix it.

On the other hand, your stunt made clear that in this "digital download" thing, the service provider is the ruler, and he's able to do whatever he wants. Gotta stick to old, trusted boxes.

Dear Gog,

I admitted to be baffled by your lamentable publicity ploy, which I suspected a hoax, but stll the nagging uncertainty drove me up the walls. I wouldn't go as far as by throwing insults, but I do understand why people are expressing their disappointment on a rather personal level.

As mentioned before, the mission to get world wide web attention succeeded, but the statement to loyal customers backfired, as being more conning than cunning.

Yet I had a hint of a smile, watching the charade with monks. It's the sort of prank my friends would pull -whenever they have one drink too many that is. Seeing through the transparancy of mischievousness, what really shines true is your love for genuine gaming and a titbit of cheesy domesticated renegade rebellion. (speaking of titbits I would stick with wet T-shirt-model(s) next time around to promote a curveous message with each letter accentuating the importance of its content, but that's probably the male chauvinist pig in me surfacing with a grunt -beautiful ladies who are offended by such gross misconduct willing to improve on my faulty character may address me personally, sending over their own wet-T-shirts-pictures -euh I mean their remarks -grunting ad lib yet again).

Anyway this being beside and out of the question, I do give Thee absolution, but I do pray whenever a sequel to Phantasmagoria: A Puzzle of Flesh would hit the market you guys would make a "leading" appearance (sadly the wordplay in Dutch of leading in the sense of starring and suffering cannot be translated).

Looking forward to many DRM-free years and games still to come...

with kind appreciation,

Ilias
The new forum is buggy. My posts don't appear.
They say something about a present. Aren't presents supposed to be free?
They could make it up by giving me one free game on my wishlist.
