Adventure games are far and away my favorite. Second, turn-based RPG's. I find an occasional game outside of those two genres that I enjoy, but it's rare.

Shooters of any type come in dead last. I have nothing against them, I just have zero talent for them, so they're no fun for me to play.

Depending on the game, I love all genres.

I don't like racing games, but I love Burnout.
I don't like FPS, but Half Life 2 is one of my favorite games ever.
I don't like platformers, especially 3d, but adore most of the Tomb Raider series.
I don't like Puzzlers, but I play sudoku all the time.
I don't like Loot Quests, yet Torchlight is the first game I always install on any PC.
I don't like Shmups, yet consider WizzBall one of the greatest games ever made, especially in co-op.
I dont like Tournament Fighters, yet I played International Karate Plus to death back in the day.
I don't like Brawlers, but ... um.. actually no, I don't like brawlers.
..or sports games.

First place are cRPGs, specifically those made by Troika, early Bioware, Black Isle. Of that era, that gameplay, that GUI/representation (isometric POV w/lavish detailed 2D backgrounds), and especially, writing. The culmination of the dream started by Ultima VII.

In second place comes "First Person Sneakers." The Thief series, naturally, and games that try to take a more cerebral or crafty approach to the standard FPS gameplay, like System Shock 2, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, Condemned: Criminal Origins, and hybrid games like Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, which is really in a league of its own.

Third place comes "Space Sims," i.e. the Wing Commander franchise games, and Freelancer. Pity this genre is more or less moribund these days.

I'm not really a strategy games person, despite Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri being one of my favorite games of all time. Not a big adventure game person either, really, despite my love for The Longest Journey. I'm actually more attached to development companies than genres, when I think about it.

In order: TBS, RPG, FPS,Strategy/Sim(Majesty, King of Dragon Pass, Startopia, that sort of thing), RTS, and Action.
You forgot to say that you don't like Strategy games, but you love Sacrifice :)

I would have to say Strategy, or Grand Strategy is my genre of choice right now.

Given that I've just taken two weeks off work to devote to playing through Baldur's Gate 2 and its expansion, I'd say RPGs are #1.

I'll play almost any genre though, and there are games I love from just about all of them. Sometimes it's just about finding the right game in that genre (e.g. I don't care for most racing games, but great times have been had with Mario Kart 64, NFS: Hot Pursuit, and Blur).

RTS but hell, I'll play anything, and I'll have a ball doing it.
Fact is every genre has games that are so good they draw in folks who normally abhore the genre and vice versa (push away folks who normally adore the genre).

pfff, that's like asking for my favorite music genre. At the moment, arpgs. But last weekend it was shooters. Depends on the week/month/moon i guess

Adventure games.

Back when availability was low around here, and had to rely mostly on what new pirated CDs the eastern European traders on the bazaars had in stock, I looked to western RPGs for the "closest thing". I find myself having less and less patience for killing stuff in games nowadays though.

Economic strategies can also suck me in for days, so that works for a break between adventure marathons.

Adventure games have always been number one in my heart.

I also enjoy story driven action games, RTS, TBS, and RPGs.

JRPG's are my favorite, though I enjoy Western RPG's quite a bit too.

I'm also a fan of puzzle games and platformers. Sometimes when I'm bored I'll just fire up my PSP and lose a few hours to Lumines II.

Turn based strategy I guess... But it depends on my mood so RPG, adventures, managerial are also higly appreciated. Years ago I would have said: RTS it's changed...

CRPGs. I've always liked a strong atmosphere, strong writing, and a good story so I tend to stick with these. Specifically, from when Fallout came out. Older RPGs were way too obtuse for my taste, and from Fallout on RPGs tend to be much more user friendly.

Adventure games would be my favorite, but they tend to really piss me off because I'm terrible at the puzzles. Why can't more of them be like the Walking Dead where the puzzles all make sense and I don't have to consult a guide every 5 minutes?
