amok: Middens is already on the list :), the art there is very good and original.

By the way, I just remembered an online game which I do not remember the name of. The mechanics at the surface is very much JRPG, but you are fighting your own family with stats like confidence and ego. The story is about being gay and confronting your family with it, and I think the creator is Japanese. Does anyone know which game it was? it has been bugging me a few days now.
Whoops, sorry, I only searched for Space Funeral and Murder Dog and forgot to check if Middens is on the list, since I only just found out about it.

Anyway, the game you're looking for sounds like A Closed World. :)

crikey, no wonder it was so familiar, I feel extremely stupid now.

Anyway, thanks. for clearing it up, now you know why I need to make lists...
Gorogoa have now got a playable demo, windows only for now. Downloading and testing.
Gorogoa is quite neat. The art is very good and it is a storytelling technique which only works in a computerised medium. It is basically a 'click-on-the-right-thing' adventure game, but the panels makes it very differently and it requires a bit of lateral thinking. There is maybe a little to much experimenting instead of figuring out the solutions?

Anyway, try the demo - I like it so for. Not sure how big the final game is actually going to be though....
IndieCade 2012 winners:

Grand Jury Award - Unmanned
Special Recognition Award - The Stanly Paraple
Visual Design Award - Gorogoa

and World Design Award - Botanicula
Was "Divine Divinity" considered, as of yet?

By an independent Belgian studio, Larian, and while arguably a "Diablo clone" of sorts, a quirky, humorous take on the story just set this game apart.

Regarding their sequal, Divinity II - Ego Dragonis, while I never liked the dragon bits, as such, I thought the mind reading skill was nicely original in terms of game play, and their humorous take remained charming.

I would somehow like to commend Larian as a developer having had big guts and heart to have pushed the envelope from relative obscurity.

Good as the divinity games are, I would not say that either of them are very experimental.... even the mind reading have been done quite a lot before. I like them a lot, but I do not think they belong on this list.

Just wondering how open this list is, or what is the criterion eventually: the game engine, the premise for the story, the writing, the character development, the financing?

I must admit I am a sucker for the writing.

Which games shall have done the mind reading bit, pray? I found it rather charming in Ego Draconis, and would quite like it to be so in other games.

It was, yes, a bit useless but fun and charming. There are several games with ESP powers including mind reading, as an example, and if you have not got it yet then do so right now - Psychonauts, the best game ever created.

Anyway, the aim of the list is to collect experimental and fringe games. Games that try to do new things with the medium, or just trying to push games as an arts form.... Pretentious? maybe....

edit - have a look at some of the games on the list. Several of them are free to play, and every one of them are interesting in its own way. You might see what I am trying to collect.

To be honest, I thought that's where you got your name....
I am considering removing descriptions as many of them are very hard to describe, or descriptions do not do them any justice.

Is there any point of having the descriptions, or should people just find out what they are by themselves?
Well this thing stands unedited until the forum formatting bug is cleared up. Putting this here for later
