Lmao. Never heard that one before.

DadJoke007: I enjoyed the planet scanning in Mass Effect 2 way more than I want to admit. I filled up on all minerals both playthroughs just for the relaxation.
Speaking of this, the ME1 mako was often decried but I adored it.

TARFU: In my opinion:

Fallout 1 > Fallout 2

&

Freespace 1 > Freespace 2

I've been told those opinions are unpopular. Maybe so, maybe not.
I actually think a lot of people prefer the first Fallout to the 2nd, I certainly do (Fallout 2 is unfocused, has disgusting and immersion-breaking "humour", and totally fails at creating a post-apocalyptic atmosphere imo), and I've seen people state similar views on the Rpgcodex forums.

Paradox's Grand Strategy Games are boring and use needlessly obtuse interfaces and mechanics to mask the paper-thin depth of the strategy involved. (Please don't hate me Western Europeans)

It's been mentioned already, but Sierra's Make-Your-Own-Adventure approach to P&Cs is better than Lucas Art's Walk-Back-And-Forth-Between-Four-Screens-While-Clicking-Everything-On-Everything-Until-Something-Happens-Or-Yo u-Give-Up-Or-You-Look-At-A-Guide approach to P&Cs.

Tim Schafer is a discount videogame version of Tim Burton whose games are neither fun nor funny. (Sorry Tim, I'm sure you're a wonderful person)
Anything after HoMM3 is awful.
I think this thread is a huge success and many posters stay true to the title, as I'm reading lots of opinions I would strongly disagree with. :D

I loved cruising in that thing too, although the physics were sometimes weird.
I'll try to restrict myself to actual unpopular opinions, especially for us here at gog (so nothing obvious like "I think the Half-Life games were just meh!" :P)

- Fallout 3 is the most enjoyable Fallout game to play today.
- Broken Sword games were bland, generic and uninteresting.
- The Longest Journey was barely ok, and the games after that were either frustrating or boring.
- I feel the Witcher games are too meandering and unfocused (hope I don't give up on 3 like I did the first two, but it seems likely)
- There's nothing intrinsically wrong with maze sections in adventure games. Just understand what they are, and get out your pen and math paper.
- Curse of Monkey Island was a disappointingly bad Monkey Island game.
- Oblivion was a disappointing step down after Morrowind

I think many can agree with those two - me included.
Curse of Monkey Island is my favorite game in the series.

These days, I think that point & click games are kind of meh and belong in the sales bin at best. They're like cartoon FMVs filled with puzzles with no logic just to drag out the total playtime. Think Dragons Lair but with bad puzzles instead of arcady QTEs to add artificial value and you know how I feel about them today.

I enjoyed the cheesy Hollywood-ish story in Stacraft II: Wings of Liberty.

I enjoyed Curse of MI, but then I got stuck. Would you say it's a tough game? ..I'm wondering if it's worth spending hours trying everything, if the whole game will be like that. Or maybe it's just too hard for my brain in particular.

I have to disagree, when it comes to recent p&c games. Have you played Resonance, Gemini Rue or Technobabylon? Those are for me up there with the first two Monkey Island games. And I've heard lots of praise for Unavowed and others too. Resonance and Technobabylon were quite logical and even I could play through them without help ;)
But of course, maybe it's just a taste thing, like this whole thread has pointed out, no point trying to all like the same thing :)

Wadjet Eye put out some fantastic point and clicks. Blackwell series especially is great, if a little shitty in the ending department.

I would say that it's a reather widespread opinion.

After putting some thought into this, I at least found subjects on wich my opinion would be unpopular:

1. DRM. I don't care about DRM, unless it creates immediate problems durning play. I sort of understand that it binds me to online service, but for me it's more important to play the game now and to the fullest. If the service will go down, I even could pirate it, as with owning a legal copy would mean my conscience is clear.

2. Games shouldn't be for everyone. And what I mean by this: While you can obviously can make a game for any audience, this game would (and should) be exactly for this specific audience. If during production (or even after release) you want to change the game towards different audience - that's a bad idea. Games should not seek popularity at the expense of their core fanbase.

Amelia.R: - I could never get interested with any of the Zelda despite the whole cult around it. The same goes for Mario and Sonic!
Sorry but my Princess is in another castle :s.

- It's ok to save often xD.
Yeah nintendo gets a free pass on most of the flaws in their games, same with rockstar tbh.

Its not about home often you save, its about how much you load :P
