Tantrix: EA made really bad PR for the PC version.

No pre-order offer

Yeah, I was wrong about that. You can actually unlock them in your game if you edit the .ini files a little.

No remaster for anyone. Because it didn't exist. But I did get a widescreen capable version with mine.
The game has always been widescreen capable, it just wasn't an option in the game's settings. A simple edit of a single .cfg file and the original game could run at any resolution you wanted. As for a "remastered" version, it most certainly does exist; supposedly the version included with MR on PC also has improved textures to go along with the easier configuration of widescreen resolutions.

I played through the original release of Alice two days before trying the 'remastered' version. I didn't notice the texture improvements. You may need side by side screen shots of the original and remaster to appreciate them. :(

The baked in 360 pad support is probably the most interesting addition.
I'm still waiting for my copy for Xbox 360 to come in the mail. My net is down at the house right now so I can't download the first one.

Did the original Alice have any aiming or anything? The sequel has lock-on for shooting and I don't remember what the original did. If it has shooting I can't use a pad.

Mostly FPS style aiming. A handful of weapons have a sort of auto-aim behaviour where they target the nearest enemy on screen (deck of cards, croquet mallet, jacks), but no real lock-on ability.

It had a lock-on of sorts. Put your cursor close to an enemy and they will be surrounded by a belt of blueish purple orbs. That signifies lock-on for your projectile weapons. However, if your cursor moves too far away, lock will be lost. For melee weapons, just walk up and smack them.

Honestly, I'm not sure how playable Alice is with a gamepad. I use a dualshock 2 with USB adapter + 360 pad emulator. It sees my dualshock2 but ignores my config file, preventing me from putting my buttons and axes in usable locations. Stupid remaster is probably using magic numbers. :( This won't be a problem for people using real 360 pads.

I think the 360 pad support is pretty cool because idtech 3 has only the most basic support for joysticks. IIRC, you can only use one stick and then you'll need to press a button to toggle freelook. That's pretty much unusable. Alice Remastered definitely uses both the movement and view sticks like deity intended.

That really makes me want to play it again. Now to decide whether to install my boxed copy or wait for the remastered edition to be sold somewhere.

Also sent you a Steam friend request.
