Pretty good year I guess, I don't recall being really disappointed with any purchase (or maybe I have just forgotten).

I name two cheap bundles I got. I can't say I'm really disappointed by them (as in: "I want my money back!") ie. they were still worth the low asking price, but in both there were things that irritate me, kinda left a bit of sour taste in my mouth.

1. SFI Super Bundle: 29 Strategy First games for $9.99 (or was it 9.99€? Anyways.).

http://www.gog.com/forum/general/sfi_super_bundle_29_games_rrp_41471_with_code_999_half_of_all_sales_go_to_breast_cancer_rese/page1

I definitely got my money's worth with the bundle (DRM-free too!), but I was disappointed by the Strategy First support. The game I was most interested in the bundle, Perimeter 2, doesn't appear to be updated to the latest retail version, even though the support claimed so to me in email. They offer the patch file on the same pages, but when you install it, the game complains about missing CD key/serial or something. But, if I am happy to play the unpatched version of Perimeter 2, at least it seems to work for me.

Enemy Engaged 2 doesn't work at all, and when I similarly try to update it to the latest version, same complaint. And again the support claims the game is already up to date, which I don't think is the case.

There are some technical issues with many other games too in that bundle (e.g., fonts being too big and not fitting into the clickable buttons in the game menus, and odd shit like that; feels like playing some unfinished beta version of a shareware game), but there were enough working games in that bundle that made it worth it.

But now I feel I probably won't be buying more games directly from Strategy First homepage, if the level of support for their own games is that low.

2. Humble THQ Bundle

Yes, it was still a great deal for the ~$7 or whatever I paid for it, if for nothing else but to get the Company of Heroes games.

It is just that I dislike what they did with Saints Row 3 and Titan Quest in that bundle, by offering only the base games without any DLC. The very games you got if you paid over the average price, which I did.

By itself that wouldn't matter, but as it happens both of those games were priced so in Steam that if you liked the games and wanted more content for them, it probably didn't make much sense not to rebuy the base games again from Steam because you probably wouldn't save any money by trying to pick up the "missing" pieces separately.

For example Titan's Quest, if you want the expansion pack for it, the expansion pack alone costs the same as buying the Gold version, which includes both the base game (again) and the expansion pack. Making the base game from THQ bundle irrelevant.

Also trying to pick up SR3 DLCs separately from the Steam winter sale would at best only save a buck or two (instead of buying SR3 complete bundle), or nothing at all, depending what DLCs you want.

All in all, it would have made much more sense just to skip SR3 and Titan's Quest (ie. no need to pay over the HB average). Getting them from the THQ bundle was overall pretty irrelevant even to those who actually care for the games. After all, if you like the games, you probably want more content for them.

But still with such bullshit marketing tactics, it was still a good deal for the rest of the games and I don't feel like demanding my money back, even if all the games have DRM (which automatically makes them worth less to me. but not _worthless_). But I would feel a tad better though if I had paid only like $1 for the bundle without Titan Quest and SR3, and then buy those two titles separately (the complete versions, that is).

MrFunkyFunk: For me it's probably Diablo 3, was a huge fan of D2 and sadly the only thing I'll remember about D3 is auction house farming.
That was the best part, it was so awesome to make a profit there. The combat is too repetitive but I had some fun with friends so the price was mildly justified.

nijuu: Diablo 3 by far. Bought at launch. Full price. ****. Real disappointment.
Same here. Although, the game has improved slightly with a constant stream of patches.
Another boring year in my opinion. Only few gems that I really wanted to play. It tells a lot about a gaming year when indie titles are most exciting ones and universally accepted as top 10 titles.
Still its the year of underdog so thats cool.
Probably Intrusion 2, not that I paid a lot for it since it was on sale. But even so I had to wait a month for a fix so I could actually start the game.

Also, when I got it started...I guess it just wasn't my type of game.

This year was underwhelming for me because there was nothing "special" released during it which really amazed/wow'ed me

In 2011 This was El Shaddai
In 2010 This was NieR

There really wasn't anything of that Caliber in 2012, unfortunately

My sentiment
I was absolutely positive on never buying anything at full price again, yet i got hooked by this.
I've never been such a big D2 fan, but always liked H&S in general, and had a good fun with Torchlight in the past, so i thought it was worth getting this on day one
"Hey, if torchlight was so nice, then the big, AAA title form the original software house can't be anything but awesome, right?"

Sadly, wrong... it is not a bad game per se, but it gets old really fast, and it never justified the price tag.
The worst part is that it puts me off on buying Torchlight 2, which i tried, kinda liked, but gave me the feeling that, having already spent $60, i was throwing away more cash at basically the same game...

So, lesson learned: never, ever again full price purchase on day one.

Michagogi23: lol i LOVE bioshock. but i will say i dont really get sucked in by any hype anymore. ive been playing games too long to believe it all ;) but i really liked bioshocks story, albeit not that original, but well executed to a theme we've heard before. skyrim was a game though where i had huge expectations, and they were all met! i think im a game companys perfect consumer. i buy almost all games coming out and am pretty much happy with all of them. what is wrong with me!?
There's nothing wrong with you, i do enjoy the games that are coming out as well. I even like COD, lol, which is the most hated game here. But for some reason i just couldn't get into Bioshock.
Frankly? Not even one. Mostly because I don't buy games unless they are on sale, so even if a game turns out to be shitty, I don't cry in the corner because of that.

btw. Bioshock was a mediocre game for me. Maybe because I expected more from "System Shock's spiritual successor"

Roman5: 2012 overall was underwhelming for me in general overall, might as well rename it to "Year of the Backlog"

SimonG: Is that some pathetic attempt to sound edgy? Dishonored, Spec Ops, Far Cry 3, Mark of the Ninja, AC III, ME 3, X-Com, The Walking Dead, Shogun 2 FotS, Crusader Kings II, Primoria, FTL, Grimrock, Black Ops 2, SR III etc pp

Not to mention the incredibly good deals ranging from the THQ bundle to Amazon competing with the Steam sales.
Let this be a lesson to us.

So freaking true.

PC gaming really has risen this year. There was even a IGN article (yes, I know), that PC is the king again.

Kickstarter, indie games glowing (I mean really good indie games, like FTL, Hotline Miami or Deponia), lots of great PC releases (not necessarily PC exclusives, but with much better graphics than on consoles), Free2Play .

Damn, even I, who has a weak PC spec, bought a shitload of amazing games this year.

2012 is the best for a looong time.

both games that i bought full price were a bit of a disappointment.

street fighter x tekken has some lag issues, some minor bugs and a bunch of characters still haven't been added ... it's been 4 months since they promissed to fix that.

guild wars 2 had great reviews and since so many people love playing MMOs i thought i should give it a try. it was fun for a couple of days then started feeling like a downgraded version of diablo 2.

Ashura's Wrath did it for me

rawmilk905: Legend of Grimrock was a big disappointment. I really disliked the rigid tile by tile movement and the lack of third person view.
If you thought the game play would have been anything but a throwback on old Dungeon Master style, you really have no one else to blame but yourself.

timppu: ...
TQ... yeah, but for one, that wasn't advertized at the start of the bundle and only added for free, and why are you talking about rebuying on Steam, you did get Steam keys for both TQ and SRIII, so at least as TQ goes, you saved money on the base game.

Now I'll get to the point: SRIII without DLC is not worth it? Are you fucking serious? The DLC itself only adds stuff that is not actually needed at all by the base game, and the base game is incredibly packed with content.

That's one thing, and other: Base game of SR III is arguably better than with all DLCs, since many DLCs in that game account to cheats (bonus experience, bonus money,) and there is no way in hell to turn them off because of the way Steam handles DLC.

So... Really, being disappointed by a hugeass game (about 70 hours of gameplay only to complete missions, not to do all the other crap on top of that) just because you don't get a few cheats, bonus cars, and about 5 hours of not really that good gameplay seems kind of silly to me.

edit: Now that I look at it, yeah, TQ gold does cost the same as the expansion. I still stand by what I said about SR III tho, you got a damn huge game for 7 bucks.
