GameRager: Look up the two laptop's models/makes online. The info should be on a sticker or panel on the pc/laptop. Like mine is a gateway gt5662(modified)....so I would look up that name and the word specs(so gt5662 specs) to find info on what ram my pc uses and what it can support.

Simply look up the two laptop's names with the word specs next to each of them and see what the mobo supported/included ram types and sizes are.

Some links gotten this way on google will lead to more or less detailed info though so be sure to look through 2-3 different links for each computer and compare the info and get back to us.

maxman43: ok, I think they're both ddr, but I'm not 100% sure if they are, as one of my searches didn't come up with very definitive results. Would it damage the computer in any way if they are different, or would it just not work?
You could try the scan option on crucial's website

This works too...but it won't work on his blue screening pc...that one he's gonna have to look up info for by hand. Like with my google suggestion earlier, then compare it to the results he gets from everest or your app to see if they're similar or compatible.
Well, I put it in and it seems to work so far. Noticeably faster, which makes me very happy. :D

You didn't tell us what scanner you used or if you skipped them and just tried to slot the ram in.....more details plz.

Oh, I just slotted it right in. A scan wouldn't have done me much good anyway, as the questionable ram was on the computer that blue screens within 5 minutes of turning it on.
Hey guys the post office offers flat rate shipping on their flat rate shipping boxes, which come in a few sizes, it shouldn't cost too much to send mem or video cards to people, I believe the smallest box they have is something like $5.50 for shipping in the US not sure what is is to go over seas though.
Just an update on my ram situation; my computer crashed, and tried to reboot, then crashed, then tried to reboot - it was here where I manually shut it down. I then took out the ram I had put in early, and turned it on. It worked this time, and it's working so far. Here's the error message I got:

BCCode : 1000007f BCP1 : 00000008 BCP2 : 80042000 BCP3 : 00000000
BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 3_0 Product : 768_1
C:\DOCUME~1\Max\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER83d1.dir00\Mini011811-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Max\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER83d1.dir00\sysdata.xml

So, is this actually related to the ram, or just coincidence?

switch the ram between the two pcs to see if your blue screening old pc was caused by the ram it had that you put into the new pc.

I've been running the problem computer with just 1 stick of ram for a while now, and so far it hasn't crashed. I'm thinking the ram was probably the problem all along.
low rated
So start posting em pics ppl

If you only have one other stick of ram try slotting it in place in the problematic pc(swapping with) in place of the one you have in there now. It could be the other ram stick to blame as you said, or the slot currently unoccupied(im guessing slot 2 is empty) by any ram in the problem pc that is to blame. Gotta see which it is for sure, right? :)
So no updated GPU for me then :-(

Anyway wheres the stick of ram going to???
Vista Home Premium SP2
HP Compaq Presario F700 Notebook PC
AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60 (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHzMemory: 1982MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 11 (not optomized, more like DX9)
NVIDIA GeForce 7000M / nForce 610M

Problems:

Sometimes starts, sometimes doesn't
Can't be restarted immediately, I have to wait about an hour. Otherwise it will repeatedly shut off and start up again until I force it to shut down.
Sound doesn't work, rendering most things useless to me if I can't hear it.
Adobe, Flash, and Javascript software don't work most of the time, rendering even more things useless. I've tried several workarounds and fixes for this and the sound problem but none have helped.
Overheats easily, even with frequent fan-cleaning.
The battery doesn't last more than a few minutes.
Power cord is duct-taped.
Annoying popping sounds.

So... do I win at having the suckiest computer? :D

OP left it seems. I have an old dusty but fine radeon 4670 w/1gb DD 2(or is it 3?) and it's PCI Express x16. Can you make use of it?

As for the overheating(which is my guess as to why the pc shuts down and can't be started for a bit afterwards until it cools down/etc).....you could fix that by opening up the laptop itself and dusting the whole thing out...including the various internal fans and heatsinks.

The sound could be due to a failing sound chipset or card inside the case, or failing speakers. Have you tried plugging mini laptop external speakers into the laptop's headphone jack to see if the speakers are the problem?

But yeah your pc is very sucky healthwise.........it's dyin' man. :( :\
