Find me something like that in Fallout 3
Even most reviewers who ranked Fallout 3 high pointed out that writing was inferior not only to the original Fallouts, but also to most recent games.
Comparing to this:

the writing in Fallout 3 is just disconcerting.
It's like comparing Monty Phyton to Benny Hill

It won AWARDS for the writing. We're all going to hell.

StingingVelvet: It was pretty bad at times. I remember that confrontation with the "President" and expecting all kinds of awesome dialogue but instead getting, frankly, complete crap. The "kill yourself" thing was more poorly written than in that Star Trek episode from the 60s with the same ending.

Kinda like the ending where you can talk The Master to death in Fallout 1?
Exhibit A: The Master Talkydeathkill ending
Exhibit B: President John Henry Eden Talkydeathkill ending (and sadly the player chose the crappier options but I couldn't find a better vid)
Please detail the reasons why B is inferior to A. Remember we're talking about writing only so acting delivery, setting, imagery etc is all invalid
It's a matter of taste i'm afraid. To me the first dialogue is witty and inteligent, while the second one is downright horrible.
[Science] You are a computer! I should have guessed!
Please.
I understand that Bethesda couldn't be bothered to come up with something original, instead they decided to recycle Fallout 1 & 2 ideas, what I don't understand is why they didn't just copy-paste the original dialogue. At least no one would accuse them of poor writing.

I was going to get involved in this discussion, but then the synthesizer solo in "Rosanna" started up and I realized there are better things in life. Honestly, this issue never goes anywhere.
The move to Las Vegas provides "a brand new, fresh experience that has a familiar feel of Fallout, but otherwise it's an entirely new game and a new look, with Joshua trees and tumbleweeds and blue skies," Hines says. "Vegas is up and running. It is not a ghost town. It still exists and thrives. There are casinos, and you can go down onto the Strip. It will have a very different feel from that standpoint."

And its going to be the size of Capital Wasteland they said, also they mentioned: Pete Hines said it would take hundreds of hours to explorer every nook and cranny. But given that the original team is making this and the fact that the Gamebryo is quite possibly the easiest 3D platform to code and create for is whats driving New Vegas. Im inclined to believe them.
Im just hoping someone sees the DC Interiors Project and realizes this is what Fallout Needed from DAY one, no restrictions on where you can and cant go.... if i want to explore a house then dammit let me!, I can pry off a plank really easily in the wasteland...

FO3 by itself was fine (despite its flaws) and I played most of the base game. And occassionally there were fun little surpises like "Reign of Grelokl" but mods are what makes FO3 great!
As long as Las Vegas is modable I will be happy.
Is anyone else a little concerned about how this is being marketed?
I mean an interview with USA Today?
Why not do an interview with actual game magazines or websites? it's like they don't know who their demographic is.
I think it'd be a good idea to wait on this title it looks like something very wrong is going on here, something we're not being shown.
Or they've made the assumption that everyone who is already a gamer will know about a new Fallout game and are broadening the horizons a bit

Kind of a wild baseless assumption there. Especially after the game has been featured in numerous gaming publications. If they can get a USA Today feature, why not?

Wild baseless assumptions are how I roll.
Given Obsidians less than awesome track record, given Fallout 3 was terrible as a Fallout game, and given that in this day and age everyone is focusing on consoles, I think it's entirely likely we're going to get "hurrr durrr borderlands!"

So you criticise both the developers of the third game and the developers of New Vegas, many of whom were the core people behind the first two? I think you're just going to have to face the fact you're really just don't like the Fallout series and leave it at that.
I mean, I don't expect to like Barbie Fashion Designer, so I just leave that shit alone.

I actually quite enjoy Fallout 1 and 2, as well as Tactics.
Obsidian has a track record for making games with large amounts of technical issues as well as rushing design to meet a deadline. And lets face it, the Elder Scrolls series has become more of a console affair ever since Morrowind.
oh btw you may enjoy looking at the OP: Of the Fallout Faq

It was sarcasm, in case that was somehow missed. Fallout fanatics have been bitching and moaning about how the license should be given to Obsidian. Now that's happened and they've got exactly what they've asked for. So now they find little things to justify keeping that stick firmly planted up their arses.
That's exactly why Obsidian had a good laugh and told Bethesda to not even try and please them with Fallout 3. There really isn't any point.
I just find it as funny as it is predictable. Well, no. I didn't actually predict Bethesda would given them exactly what they asked for. But the results of them doing were predictable all the same.
Obsidian have released what? KotOR 2? Thrown out the door unfinished by Lucasarts. You can't say they weren't willing to finish it. It wasn't their call.
NWN 2 runs fine and is infinitely better than the first game (which is by far Bioware's worst game in my opinion). A few NWN2 expansion packs that are very highly sought after and are meant to improve the game immensely.
And... that's it so far. Not a lot to form an opinion on.
Then, of course you've got to take into account the fact that you're saying a Fallout game is going to suck because it's going to have a few bugs. Again, clear evidence you hate the entire series. :P
As for TES, Morrowind was actually identical on both platforms, save for controls. So was Oblivion. Oblivion wasn't so much dumbed down as it was stripped. Two voice actors. Two conversations between them. Two dungeons. So much copy pasta that entire sections of the game are probably permanently imprinted on their computer's RAM. But none of this has any relevance as Bethesda aren't developing this one.
I am mildly optimistic about New Vegas.
My biggest gripe with Fallout 3 wasn't the new mechanics, but the overall simpler ones. No peaceful ending, no real variety, the characters were bland for the most part.
On top of that, Fallout 3 was kinda out of place with it's desolation compared to the flourishing cities of Fallout 2. I think I'll prefer NV's new local much better.
