Since the level cap is 99 I don't really see the point in keeping around a character that will be useless for most of the game.

I'd like to enter for The Last Express. Thanks for the giveaway and +1.
Can't help you with the game since I never played any FF.

Anyway, happy holidays, and I'll enter for Splinter Cell.
No white mage? That just sounds silly.

I'm totally in for King of Dragon Pass.
+1 for the giveaway ...and i've never had time to play FF series :(
I'm in for the giveaway. Thanks! I'd like Primordia if that's okay.
Can't help you with FF3 since I haven't played it, but I think you should find out thinks like this by yourself, I guess you will feel better :)

Congrats on dream job, but please tell us what job is it :)
I would also like to enter a giveaway :)
thanks.
While I have not played this particular iteration of the game, it is worth noting that most "hybrid" classes in FF games tends to suffer from one very big weakness: The lack the ability to use the highest level spells, which makes them less powerful than the "pure" classes later on. So unless a class has some other trick up its sleeve, it is usually best to stick with pure classes, in the long run (the classic Red Mage is a shining example of a hybrid class done wrong. While you can beat the game with one, and it looks cooler than the other classes, it is still worse than the other ones).
Here you can look at its stats and available spells: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Onion_Knight_(Final_Fantasy_III)

If nothing else, I would seriously recommend not dropping the white mage, unless you know what you are doing, and are familiar with the game.

Also, not decided what I want yet :P

yeah there's really no point in onion knights since they're way more trouble than they're worth since they're just there for twinking pretty much. I'd guess you'd finish the game at about level 50 and then your job level would depend on whether you've stuck to a job for a while or just changed to it at the last crystal.

main thing is to have some extra hp to cushion the final boss' attacks. And hp depends on the vitatlity of the job you're in when you level up so sticking in a terrible job for too long can cripple your max hp. (though, it's not like you need to be a blackbelt/monk and min/max your hp)

most of the jobs are reasonably viable (though not like, scholar or the low level summoner "synergist" or w/e) as long as you get some of the endgame equipment and stuff from Eureka. main reason to upgrade white mage is that the advanced version of white/black mages has an upside down magic chart that give them more high level spells per day though they may have less than a white mage that you've used most of the game if you don't spend a bit of time grinding up a devout or w/e

I think I heard that Viking's supposed to be more of a tanky class so keep that in mind. And you'll probably want to upgrade a black mage to a summoner or sage when the last job upgrade becomes available.

personally I used a party of 2 dragoons, a white mage, and a thief after the boss fight with that garuda or what have you up until the final dungeon and final upgrade after which I switched to knight (with excalibur of course), devout, summoner, and ninja.

also congratulations, happy holidays, +1 etc. I'll enter for the gog too.
In for Defender's Quest. Thanks!
Can't help with FF3 since I have not played it. Now this thread kinda make me want to try it.

Congratulations FraterPerdurabo on getting your dream job!. I am sorry but I have never played the FF3 so I cannot help you.
I enter for the gog game. I will choose the games the game in case I am the lucky winner.

Thanks.
I don't have any clue about your question :(

Congrats for your new job and I'd like to enter for Ultima 9.
I wish I could say if the Onion Knight gets useful before post-endgame, but I stopped playing FF3 (on my DS) after the second dungeon. I just wasn't liking how it played and stuff. =/ I hope someone can help out though!

And as for the second part of your post, I would love to enter for Retro City Rampage before it goes off sale (roughly 2 days from now).

Happy Holidays to you, as well and congrats on the dream job!
Yeah, the Onion Knight is a class for completionists really I think. I say stick with the white mage for now and swap them to a devout later on.

Big_Boss: Nope, the Onion Knight is useless.
A white mage is a MUST, I managed to finish FF3 without the Onion and never had a problem. Curaja, Reflect and Esuna are essentially for finish the game.
You can finish the game without grinding, by the way. I finished it around level 80, but it was the PSX version, I don't know if the IOS version is the same.
By the way, I enter for 11th hour, and thanks!
Wait... there wasn't a PSX version of FF3. The DS remake was the first remake/port!

Anyway, I agree with you... the Onion Knight is pretty useless.

EDIT: Not entering the contest, but the offer is appreciated. Congratulations on the job!
