FraterPerdurabo: Two things:

1) I bought Final Fantasy 3 for the ipad and been playing a fair amount over Christmas. Just finished the Cave of Shadows or whatever. I felt that the White Mage wasn't quite pulling his/her weight so switched her to the Onion Knight. The Onion Knight is really shitty, but I read that they will become very powerful later on (post level 92). The question is - should I keep her? At what level will I finish the game? Will she start actually chipping in at some point? The White Mage was infinitely more useful.

My composition is: Black Mage, Geomancer, Viking and Onion Knight.

2) I got my dream job a couple of weeks ago so figured I'd give something away. Feel free to enter for GOG of your choice (besides TW2 because I haven't started yet so still somewhat strapped for cash). You don't need to answer my question in order to enter.

Happy holidays to everyone of course.
I have FF3 on my iPhone and beat the game. I never really used the onion knight since I didn't feel like grinding to 90+ on it (since i had already hit some high levels on other classes by the time I got it). I hit job level 99 on 3 of my heroes (would have been all 4 but decided to switch one's job late game). Honestly, I don't think there's really a bad setup you can have, all classes are pretty damn good at high job levels (I was Dark Knight, Geomancer, White Mage, Red Mage. Actual character levels were 62).

I would be interested in a chance at winning Deponia or Primordia. Thanks for the chance :)

Big_Boss: Lol,I mean the GBA version.I played all Finfal Fantasy, but I can't remember on which consolle.

SirPrimalform: No, GBA version of III either... >.>

The DS remake was the first remake. <,<
Lol, you are right,I confused FFIII with FFIV, the one with Cecil I think.
ANd on GBA there were only Final Fantasy I+II
I must play FFIII,so.
Is there a PS3 version of this?
And which FF was the one with Red Mage, Blue Mage, the one where you can select the job of each characters?

Thanks for the giveaway, I'm in! Never played FF3, though, so I've no idea how to answer your question.

The GBA got I+II, IV, V and VI but skipped over III for some reason... this is why they made such a big deal of the DS remake because it was the first remake and the first international release of the game all together.
III does have a job system, but so does V so maybe you're thinking of that one? The job system in V is a little more interesting because you can mix and match abilities from jobs you've already learned with abilities from your current job.
I've only played FF3 briefly, so I'm the same boat as you: heard that OKs are silly in the beginning, but overpower near the very end. Something about how they can equip most items and their stats start scalating ridiculously somewhere at lvl 80-90. So all I have is my gut instinct and it says that you should work on those other classes, and only use OKs once you have leveled enough and plan to tackle the endgame extras.

And good job on getting that dream job! I'm in, thanks for the chance.

Yeah, maybe it was FFV.
And sometimes I get confused because on Europe when Final Fantasy VI came out it was called Final Fantasy III, lol XD

I thought that was the US... in the UK at least, VII was the first one to come out. :)

Maybe also in Europe, but really my memory is destroying itself XD
I played them ages ago, by the way.
I say that you should kick her to the curb. It's been a long time since I played FF3 (or any FF game for that matter) but I don't think I was anywhere near that level when I played the game. A general rule for me in RPGs is that if it takes that much levelling/grinding to see that kind of return for a character then it's not worth it. I don't mind grinding but I hate dead weight in my party.

Happy Holidays to you too and I'd like to enter for the 11th hour. Congratulations on landing your dream job :)
Congratulations on getting your dream job! :)

I wish I could help you with Final Fantasy 3, but I've never finished the game.

I'm in for Eador: Genesis.

Thank you for the giveaway! :)
Thanks a lot for the tips guys. I switched back to White Mage and the game is infinitely easier. The Mages also have higher sequence, which really helps you pace through the fights unscathed! I'm probably not too far from finishing the game, currently at level 48 and just killed Bahamuth and Leviathan. Might play FF1 after this if I have enough holiday left.

As for the job, thanks for all of the best wishes. For those who were interested, I got an offer from a very good law firm to work in a fairly niche area of law (a niche that I'm very much interested in). The hours are long but I love the field and obviously the pay is very good. Decade+ of grinding IRL has finally paid off!

I'll pick the winner(s) probably later tonight! Thanks for the tips and the wishes!
Changed my mind about entering... >.>

I'd love Nexus: The Jupiter Incident if I win, thanks!
in FF3 (i have it on ipod as well, and will get the Ouya version when it pops up):

id agree with much of the general RPG exp info but FF3 is a beast of its own grinding down to the minutia.

use whatever character class you like, but when you level up make sure in the battle before to swap to a different character class.

your leveling both character level, and also job level.
the job level transfers no stats when you change to a different job,
except for HP increases on character level ups through the VIT stat.

best character class for HP increases on level up : Black Belt
you can still get 9999 HP if you start power grinding HP bonuses in the char level 40-50s. it consists of save scumming and repeating to see if you get the 'full' hp bonus, it also gets boring really quickly.
even not save scumming you can still get pretty decent HP bonuses by using the class (i started leveling HP way late and its nearly a statistic impossibility).

The Onion Knight (is really shitty): like you noticed until at least character level 93. i would keep no one as an Onion Knight until either character level 93, or you get a full set of

Onion Equipment : (all def gear has 'immune to all status', all drop from dragons, all have a super low drop rate.
Onion Sword - 1.5% drop - Yellow, Green, and Red Dragons - All Stats +5
Onion Helm - 4.5% drop - Yellow Dragons - Int +5, Mind +5
Onion Gauntlets - 4.5% drop - Green Dragons - All Stats +3
Onion Armor - 4.5% drop - Red Dragons - Str +5, Vit +5
Onion Shield - 7% drop - Yellow, Green, and Red Dragons - All Stats +2

Secret ??? Dungeon - fight all dragons, (need to be high level to survive).
use an low level Onion Knight team as a challenge mode for yourself.

The question is - should I keep her?
As an Onion Knight - no unless you like a challenge mode.
go with Devout for your healer, or Ninja, Summoner, Magus or Dark Knight if not your only healer.

At what level will I finish the game?
depends on classes chosen for the final battle. its possible with level 50 characters.
it also depends on how you go about it.

[url=http://Spoiler alert - You can fight the final bosses' minions/alts first instead of taking the final boss on head on. each part you defeat weakens the final boss. should be 4 sub bosses. OR you can take on the final boss without weakening him and go for broke.]*Spoiler alert* hit reply and check the url tag for spoiler[/url]

make sure to save frequently once your in the final area, you can inadvertently walk into a dead end that leads to the final boss, and some of the best equips are strewn around there plus leveling areas.

Will she start actually chipping in at some point?
of course 'at some point' but to be useful for the majority of the game swap to a different class and level on the Onion Knight Job lvls once you gather at least 1 set of Onion Equips, or in between character level ups and swap to a different class for the HP increasing VIT stat boost that will transfer amongst the classes.

swap her to a Devout.

congrats on the job!
count me in for the GOG of choice!
