It’s a Steal!

THIEF™ GOLD is the definitive version of Thief: The Dark Project, the first game that introduced sound and light (or silence and shadows) as stealth gameplay mechanics, so there is no way you can sneak past this gem on GOG.com for just $9.99.

Garrett, the main protagonist in Thief trilogy, is one of the gaming’s most appealing hidden anti-heroes. Sure, he’s a thief (and a killer!), but he makes it up with sarcasm, intelligence, and rougish appeal. Thief’s surprisingly elaborate storyline throws Garret between a rock and a hard place where he needs to restore the political and magical balance of the city by using silence, stealth, and thievish skills as a weapon. The chaotic Pagans and technological Hammerites are preparing to tear the city apart in their battles with each other, and it seems that only a little judicious theft can keep these titani forces from clashing. No matter who's the employer and who's the victim, he plans to stay neutral and is always upholding his beliefs with a simple key principle: always get the loot.

In THIEF™ GOLD, you have a wide range of equipment at your disposal: a blackjack, a sword, lockpicks, holy water, explosive mines, flash bombs, and seven types of arrows to assist you on 12 treacherous missions in a steampunk-medieval metropolis called the City. The game’s FPS mechanics are a big change from then-traditional DOOMlike “shoot and run” to the unthinkable "it's quite amazing how much fun it can be to avoid action". The game received much critical acclaim (92! Metascore), with reviews ranging from “immersive gaming experience”, through “bloody good”, to the quite expected “my favorite game of all time”.

You don’t have to get your hands dirty to get THIEF™ GOLD from GOG.com’s secret stash for $9.99.

Neobr10: Yeah, thats a great release.

Anyone knows whats the difference between the gold version and the normal one? Im asking because i already bought the original Thief from Gamersgate, but it isnt the gold edition. Maybe i can use my saves from the normal edition on the gold edition? If this is possible im definately buying it.
The differences are stated in the game description: (three new campaign missions which deepen the plot and five new types of enemies).
Now, with old editions of Thief, save compatibility was possible, I don´t know yet how about GOG version, but it´s definitely worth trying.

Firek: We should probably call it Th1ef, then.

PCGameGuy: Please don't. :) Thief : The Dark Project had a massive patch bundle that fixed a huge amount of draw issues, clipping problems, detection bugs, missing pointers, and added a few new levels as well. That patch is what became Thief Gold. For those of us who remember pre-patch, it was still beyond fun for gaming but at the time we all hailed the patch as the greatest thing since sliced bread.

For a good chunk of history and some of the oldest taffers on the web, try ttlg.com some time. I was there at the start, though no one remembers Keef anymore. :)
Hello,

You are one of the former ttlg members? Wow, respect, sir, that forum is a history of itself. I myself was more of a observer on that forum, occasionally seeking advice, when I got stuck in some fan mission.

Advices posted there helped me alot when I was trying to run Thief 1/2 on Vista/Win 7.

THANK YOU SO MUCH GOG.

The Thief series is all my time favorite. I have boxed copies but these is just even more icing on the cake. Thank you!
I'm just bored that you sell it at 9.9$ (as for DeuxEx).

5.99$ is the good price for both. So I will have to wait for discount events :(
It's an awesome series that ended up being dumbed down for the masses a bit at the end like most games these days.
Unfortunately the only one I haven't got is Thief 2 the metal age, I could still buy the disk as a bundle but the price is exorbitant for how old it is now.

especially considering the complete collection (including not only Thief Gold but also fully patched versions of Thief 2 and 3) still goes for around $10...

on the other hand, the only non-GoG digital edition available is GamersGate's, and that's €9.99 for the standard edition of Thief, probably incompatible with modern systems without massive fanpatching.
If anyone has trouble with the cutscenes in this game in Windows 7, run the game in Windows 98 Compatibility Mode.
thank you. thank you. thank you. thank you.
HOLY FUCKING SHIIT!!!!!!!11 OMG OMG OMG!!!!
Been waiting this so long time! Thank you so much!!
Snargelfargen: I hear people are having trouble installing the GoG version of Thief Gold. The following instructions work with the original T1/TGold and T2 disks for win7 and Vista. They may be helpful for GoG's version as well:

1. Make sure you have the game patched to the latest version. (I hope GoG already did this, lol)
2. Install DDFIX. This should let the game work with most modern graphics cards. This thread will walk you through installing it: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121449
3. You will need to tell the game to use only one core of your processor. I'll link again to save space: http://www.thief-thecircle.com/guides/hyperthreading/

After following these steps I was able to get Thief working. If you do run into any problems, you can get help on the TTLG forums which are still quite active: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=153
That's the legacy gaming part of the forum, but the thief section is here http://www.ttlg.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=83

I also recommend installing Darkloader to manage any mods you might install. It can also do step 3 for you: http://www.thief-thecircle.com/download.asp?fid=272
i would also suggest restarting your computer immediately after installation. i've never had to do that with a GOG game before, but when I did it with Thief, all of my problems were resolved

I shouldn't have to do all this. The GOG installer should just do this for me and upon completion of the game's installation I should be ready to play. No point in me getting it otherwise.

Yes! Thank you, Thief is my favourite series! I hope you will be able to add Thief 2, too...
As I am reading so far even GOG's version of Thief needs some additional patching in order to setup the game properly, so for now I think I am going to pass.

Not anymore. They uploaded a new version that works out of the box.
ALthough I solved the video not playing problem with the ddfix pathc, I am downloading the new build for my DVD backup disc
Awesome, great series of games.
Unsurprising but great release. Definitely going to buy this at some point.
