It’s a Steal!

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/thief_gold]THIEF™ GOLD is the definitive version of Thief: The Dark Project, the first game that introduced sound and light (or silence and shadows) as stealth gameplay mechanics, so there is no way you can sneak past this gem on GOG.com for just $9.99.

Garrett, the main protagonist in Thief trilogy, is one of the gaming’s most appealing hidden anti-heroes. Sure, he’s a thief (and a killer!), but he makes it up with sarcasm, intelligence, and rougish appeal. Thief’s surprisingly elaborate storyline throws Garret between a rock and a hard place where he needs to restore the political and magical balance of the city by using silence, stealth, and thievish skills as a weapon. The chaotic Pagans and technological Hammerites are preparing to tear the city apart in their battles with each other, and it seems that only a little judicious theft can keep these titani forces from clashing. No matter who's the employer and who's the victim, he plans to stay neutral and is always upholding his beliefs with a simple key principle: always get the loot.

In THIEF™ GOLD, you have a wide range of equipment at your disposal: a blackjack, a sword, lockpicks, holy water, explosive mines, flash bombs, and seven types of arrows to assist you on 12 treacherous missions in a steampunk-medieval metropolis called the City. The game’s FPS mechanics are a big change from then-traditional DOOMlike “shoot and run” to the unthinkable "it's quite amazing how much fun it can be to avoid action". The game received much critical acclaim (92! Metascore), with reviews ranging from “immersive gaming experience”, through “bloody good”, to the quite expected “my favorite game of all time”.

You don’t have to get your hands dirty to get THIEF™ GOLD from GOG.com’s secret stash for $9.99.

Vagabond: Not anymore. They uploaded a new version that works out of the box.
I downloaded and installed the game last night, and the game was playable out of the box, sans cinematics. I still had to use a patch to get those working.

Weird. Read in one of the threads in the Thief forum it was fixed.

Yeah, I read that too, so I was a little surprised that it was still not quite right. Here's my hardware specs in case anyone is wondering:

AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
Corsair 4GB RAM
EVGA GeForce GTS 250 1GB
Windows 7 64-bit
Never played this one but loved Thief 2 (hope to see that on GoG too wink wink)
Time to grab this, glad im on a vacation! (:
Thanks GoG!!
THIEF IS THE REVERED PURITY OF HOLY GAMING RELICS!!
A THIEF SHOULD BE SUBTLE AND NOT USE ALLCAPS IN GAME TITLES

Other than that, great release!
Awesome. Been waiting for these to show up, even though I own them all... I'd imagine I'll get them here as soon as a sale comes along...

Lexor: lol, why capital letters?

Even trademark of this game is not "THIEF" - this game is named simply "Thief".

Look at the bottom of this page: http://www.thief4.com

so?
Probably has something to do with the fact that every Thief game has the letters written in sword-sliced capital letters with the subtitle in uppercase as well. At least that's how it is on all my copies of the games. Thief: DS for the the XBOX even has normal uppercase letters along the spine for the whole title.

hucklebarry: IMHO, its the robots in T2 that I don't like.
But T2 wouldn't be T2 without robots. I mean, who would be chasing Conner if it wasn't robots... oh, wait... you meant Thief 2... n/m

I am saying this again: one text is a logo, the other text is a name. Way of writing the name can be different from what is in logo. If GOG put a picture of logo in title of topic I would say nothing. But typing the name is quite different thing.

A quote from official Eidos website: http://www.eidos.com/games/thief-4
The original Thief game, Thief: The Dark Project redefined first person gaming and established an entirely new genre of stealth based game play.
There is no doubt an error in topic title/message/gamepage.

Attached picture is from an official copy of the game and not a logo...

Also, you asked: "lol, why capital letters?" I gave an explanation for why they would use capitals. Just because it's not the official trademarked name, it doesn't mean it doesn't get written different ways. Don't act like it's never shown up with all capital letters like that, even through official channels...

It is still a picture what you've linked, not name of the game in larger information. :)

Also - look at topic title - GOG even attached trademark symbol (™) to Thief's game name.
Now look here at bottom: http://www.thief4.com/index.jpg - trademarked name simply looks "Thief".

When it comes down to it, the letters within a logo, stylized or not, are trademarked along with the logo. "THIEF" would be trademarked, and anyone anyone who used that for a video game could potentially be brought up for trademark infringement. I don't see why this is such a big deal to you though, since it's obvious what the game is, and no one at all is confused by the fact that they used all capital letters just like on the cover of the game.

cover = picture and forum post = text - they both are quite different form of information

It is all about identity and from marketing aspect of view case of letters is very important. ;)
I agree, most people do not care how they write, but for the person from marketing division it should be important to type things right. Any other typing than original / official one can also mean something subliminal.
Hey I just realized my troll post got downrated lol. Keeveek, looks like obvious troll is not obvious enough for some :P
