Fight your way through time or you’re history!

Play a fantastic action-adventure title with a unforgettable plot with today's release of [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/time_commando]Time Commando for only $5.99! An advanced virus has infiltrated a top secret military research facility's supercomputer. The computer can simulate any combat from any period throughout history, but it's such a powerful computer that the virus has created a vortex that threatens to tear a hole in the very fabric of time. Your job is to suit up, travel through time, and prevent the virus from destroying the universe. A good antivirus program could have prevented this threat to the universe, but now that the virus is assaulting the fabric of reality, it has all come down to you.

You are Stanley Opar, a member of S.A.V.E (Special Action for Virus Elimination), an organization that was created to clear the system of the virus. You must travel through many of the historical eras that the supercomputer simulates while using a wide array of weapons (from stones to samurai swords, slings to laser rifles, and a killer yo-yo) to fight through time and collect data bits scattered over the various worlds to repair the damage done.

Time Commando is an action adventure with a little bit of puzzles here and there. Graphically the game was very advanced for the 1990s with beautifully rendered 2D backgrounds coupled with the vivid 3D animated characters. The control scheme takes the best elements out of the Alone in the Dark series and improves upon them.

Grab yourself some action-adventure brawling action for only $5.99!

Meh, I was hoping for something better after the long break.
complaining. so it isnt system shock big deal, doesnt seem like a bad game
Doesn't seem like a particularly good one, either. I suspect that that's intentional; after a month-long sale where a lot of your customers have 1) spent their gaming budget and 2) have bought a lot of games and don't need to pay full price for another one, I suspect that sales are doomed to be lower than normal no matter what the game is; not a good time to release a game you think is going to be a smash hit and make you a lot of money.

I'm not complaining, though--I rounded out my point-and-click adventure collection over break, so it's not like I don't have games to play.
Concerning the box art comments . . . just my opinion with no inside contacts at GOG . . .

I probably watch the box art closer than most as I try to preserve the original on our DVD covers. It appears that game cover art has the same complicated distribution rights as the other game components.

GOG has made several covers, over the years, that don't match the original. If the cover art is not owned / released by the current publisher . . . I don't think they have a choice but to "make" one from the artwork the current publisher releases with the game. Also, the original publishers are often not the same as the publishers for the GOG release so the old cover art may not be owned by the current publisher.
Ah... the memories. Good times with this one. I still have my CD here and I know exaclty where it is. :)
Well, this is certainly a good way to bring in the new year! Now, if the weekend sale manages to have some games I didn't get in the holiday sale for 75% off, I think I'll have a very good birthday this Monday. :)
I borrowed this one from a friend way back, it's a straightforward side-scrolling beat em' up, fairly easy and very short, you should be able to beat it in one sitting.

The premise was interesting enough, have you seen "My Science Project", towards the end when all shit breaks loose and the device begins to merge past, present and future together? No? Why am I the only one that's seen/liked this movie, dammit!

Anyway, it's kinda like that. Someone introduced a virus into a military super computer designed for combat simulations that creates a time vortex that begins to engulf the world and you're the unlucky tech support dude that has to fix it. The computer sucks you into a sort of virtual reality recreation of history and makes you bash through different time periods like the Roman Empire, Wild West and the World Wars until you find and destroy the virus.

I wouldn't say it's good, but it's really not that bad either. Nice graphics (for the time anyway) and a cool concept that deserved better gameplay.
And i'm still waiting for Inca I & II...
Hmm. I thought I knew this game but on closer inspection it isn't the one I was thinking of.
Wow, this might be the second release I know nothing about.
according to one user review, i am not a true pc gamer unless I play this game. Oh well :(

You are also not a true gamer if you cannot withstand at least one full Daikatana playthrough. :)
Now this was something I was secretly hoping for! It's not a "golden classic" but certainly one of my earliest games as a kid, and this one I played a lot. Definetly getting this one for the nostalgia... music, weapons, stages, enemies... Thanks GOG!

You are also not a "true" gamer if you haven't played "pong" or "dig dug" for 500 hours.:-)
Thanks GOG! This thread can now be closed.
